Looking for collaborators to take Lucy Stone to FA
The Lucy Stone biography has been a Good Article for more than three years, but until recently I have been stumped in the matter of how to make it a Featured Article. The recent development is a deep interest in article improvement shown by the new editor User:Jmillionjpostma, who says "You can tell by my user name that I am the author" of the Joelle Million book, 'Woman's Voice, Woman's Place: Lucy Stone and the Birth of the Woman's Rights Movement. So right now the article has the interest of a standout author on the subject, and I think the time is ripe for reworking the article to make it FA.
I don't think the transition will be easy, because I consider the GA-level article lacking in the matter of "engaging, even brilliant" prose. Its basic layout could be improved, too. The FA collaborator should check out the Million book, the correspondence book Friends and Sisters: Letters between Lucy Stone and Antoinette Brown Blackwell, 1846-93, and also the Kerr book Lucy Stone: Speaking Out for Equality. Category:Women's history
Hello, I thought folks might like to know about the new category I just created, Category:Women's history. I was quite surprised to discover that it didn't already exist as a category in its own right -- especially considering that there is a Women's History Wikiproject! I suppose the reason for that is probably because we already have Category:Women in history. But of course, that doesn't eliminate the need for a category about the field of Women's history. I'm currently piloting a project at my university, Loyola University Chicago, to increase participation among women students and improve content on women scientists. Women in Science Oxford Editathon: Ada Lovelace Day 2013
Hello all. Among the crop of upcoming Women in Science events is this one in Oxford, UK, happening with the support of the Bodleian libraries, some departments and units of Oxford University, and the Wikimedia UK/Jisc collaboration. Issue originally led by a Wikipedia:Single-purpose account, and later leading 2 users to conflict with the changes or repeating his version. I don't find any serious reason the three following statements that have been removed from the page. On lead they were:-
"Hindu texts forbid its practice in Kali yuga, the current age."[1], [2], [3]. "But the practice was revived most notably during the Muslim invasions of India."[4], [5], [6](cites multiple sources), [7]
And the next one on "Muslim period":-
During the Islamic conquest of Indian subcontinent, sati practice revived, as rapes and abductions were commonly carried out by the Islamic invaders.(As per sources above) - Other atrocities by Islamic invaders included the enslavement, Harem, etc."sati"

Underrepresentation
Hi folks - I was thinking of starting an article about underrepresented people and how their underrepresentation can distort people's view of the world. Women are one group (of course), but there are others (for example: arguments have been made on how WP does not provide a balanced picture of Indigenous peoples of the Americas, and under-representation of the poor has also been an issue on WP). My question is what to call this. My first thought was disfranchisement, but that article talks mostly about political issues, not social ones. Can anyone offer ideas? - I'd start with what the RS say, so unless you can find books and sources that cover the idea of "underrepresentation" as a whole, it would be best to cover the topic relationally within individual articles (e.g., women/minorities in business, women/minorities in political representation) mimicking its coverage in said sources. I can't say I've looked especially hard, but I'm not finding much on underrepresentation as a singular concept. Now as for the "on Wikipedia" examples you mentioned, I'd build out summary-style from Wikipedia#Coverage_of_topics_and_systemic_bias and Criticism_of_Wikipedia#Systemic_bias_in_coverage (which contains a "Gender bias" subsection). If the subject grows too big for the section, break it out into its own article. czar ♔ 18:13, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Elizabeth of Bosnia FAC
Last month I nominated the article about the Hungarian queen Elizabeth of Bosnia for FA status, but it has not attracted enough reviewers yet. Elizabeth, who ended up losing her head, governed Hungary during one of the most unstable periods in its history - unstable mostly because she and the monarch for whom she ruled were women. The article (rated GA) is of great interest to WikiProject Women's History, and I would be very grateful if a member of this WikiProject commented on the nomination. Popular pages tool update
As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).
Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.

I was wondering if somebody from WikiProject Women's History could take a look at Toni Tennille. I've made a few suggestions for improving the article on its talk page (here, here and here, but have yet to get any feedback. Personally, I think the page layout is poor and should be reorganized. It seems that people are just adding sections without considering the overall layout of the article. - It seems to me that List of elected or appointed female heads of government already contains everything as a table. School and university projects
Hi, folks. I've recently come across a few articles edited as part of school and university projects, and I notice that the students tend to consider the subject's website as a convenient source of information. This can result in a certain degree of plagiarism and addition of promotional language, among other problems. I hate to discourage people from working in Wikipedia, but this is difficult to sort out after the fact. Are there guidelines posted on how to work on these projects? Nevermind. I found the Education page and posted my question there. However, this seems to be an issue for women's history articles, as sponsored sessions and edit-a-thons have been recently promoted in order to increase the coverage of women in Wikipedia. Attribution of a really strange picture

Hi all, I created Anna Wintour Costume Center because it didn't have one yet and Michelle Obama is going to do the opening. To my surprise I could not find any pics to illustrate it with, even though the center combines collections of the MET and the Brooklyn museum (only their American collection though). Fishing through the collections of the Brooklyn museum for anything regarding fashion, I found this odd set of pics with a "basketry hat" from the congo. Apparently they have taken pictures of their objects to supplement old pictures demonstrating how to wear them. Presumeably this object will NOT end up in the Wintour center because it's from the African collection, but the woman looks like she walked straight out the Vogue office to have her picture taken. Any ideas on how to find out more about her? I assume she is a curator of the Brooklyn museum's African collection. Any ideas? Jane (talk) 07:30, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Bikini, one of the oldest articles of this project has gone into a peer review here. It was created on Novemeber 1, 2001, One day after Japan. That was before Abraham Lincoln (Nov 4), France (Nov 4) and California (Nov 17) were created on Wikipedia. (courtesy: TonyTheTiger) It also is a highly viewed article. If you search for Bikini using google the first return is this article. Page visitation reached its highest in 2011, and the highest number of visitors come from India, Mexico and Spain.
A lot of work has gone into the article. It kept expanding and eventually three new spin-off articles were created - History of the bikini (a good article), Bikini in popular culture and Bikini variants. The popular culture article split its own spin-offs into Category:Individual bikinis. The variants article in turn split into specific articles for Monokini and Tankini. Work has gone into other related article as well, like Thong (clothing) and Bikini waxing.

Elizabeth Vesey
The Elizabeth Vesey page is very poor in my opinion. Could someone please update this page and provide more information and emphasis on her intellectual achievements. The content is not balanced and focuses predominantly on more trivial information about her marriage and private life. She was an extremely accomplished scholar. I feel her intellectual brilliance is completely down played in this article. She was a self taught intellectual who translated very complex philosophical texts, which were published and well received. There is no mention of this, instead the written information available on her page is incredibly superficial and does her no justice. This is not a good or satisfactory contribution to History. I find the term 'Women's History' problematic also, it implies a subordinate position. My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.
One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.
This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:
• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film
• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.
• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

Comments, advice, and assistance requested at Magdalene asylum
It has been brought to my attention, that there is currently an ongoing debate on the Magdalene asylum article. This debate is occurring with User:Signedzzz and revolves around the neutrality of the article as a whole, but primarily with the section Magdalene asylum#Catholic perspective and there appears to be no immediate solution. I am appealing to see if there are people with better knowledge within the project to comment on the situation and possibly provide a solution. I have discussed the issue on the talk page, but to no avail. Here is a discussion about prior concerns being raised about the issue, you can also see my own contribution here. Native American Women
I am a relatively new editor to Wikipedia, but have studied and written about women for decades. Most of the Wiki articles I have written have been on Native American women: Tillie Hardwick, Gina Gray, Minnie Evans (Potawatomi leader), Vestana Cadue. Should they be tagged with Women's History banner? I know it has been an issue in the past to combine boxes of someone who is say a politician but also Native American, do you know if it is possible to combine the personbox used on the women's articles with the Native American box?
I am working on a biography now of an Arapaho activist and the more I work on her, the more I think that she would be an amazing subject for Women's History Month. Is there a featured biography throughout the month of March? If so, how would I propose the article? The working draft is here User:SusunW/Viola Hatch SusunW (talk) 21:49, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
- I would say the answer to your first question regarding the banner, is that it depends on their achievements. I put the banner on the ones you listed, because they should have it, in my opinion. And it does come down to your own judgement on that issue.
- In regards to Women's History Month, someone else needs to give input for this project. But I would suggest you also post that question at Wikipedia talk:Did you know, because they usually run something on women everyday on the main page during Women's History Month. Ask for input over there about their front-page slots during that month. If by "featured biography", you are talking about the upper left hand featured articles on the main page, that information is here: Wikipedia:Featured articles, and it's a lengthy process there to get from creation to the main page.
- When you mention "boxes", I think you're talking about the infoboxes. Yes? It's unlikely you can combine any of them, because they have been created as individual templates. But just to make sure, please post a question about that at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical), and if they don't have the answer they can point you to the right place to ask it.
- @Maile66 and — Maile: Thank you for your help and input. I mostly blithely go along and write about people I run across when researching someone else. Most of these Native women leaders emerged out of the Indian termination era and worked with each other or at least knew of each other. I find them and their histories fascinating, though it is often difficult to find information in great depth about them.
- I find Wiki information pages impossible to fathom. They were apparently written by programmers, not writers, and instructions are in some abbreviated code that in a few years might make sense. For now, it may as well be in Greek. I know nothing about featured articles, I just thought that it might be something the women's project would be involved in. Did You Know is apparently a lengthy process which to me is quite confusing. I cannot imagine that something proposed there would be through the process in time for March, but maybe I just don't understand how it all works. I think I shall just finish Viola and move on to my next subject. I prefer to stay out of the politics of Wikipedia. I get enough of that in the real world. This is my relaxation and if it becomes stressful, it loses the fun of it. And yes, I meant infoboxes. I think they cannot be combined, at least the data doesn't flow properly if you try to do it.

- @SusunW: and everyone: I also find Infoboxes a bit hard to use, but my approach is to just find an article like mine that has an infobox and copy it, swapping out the parameters. - Have you heard of the Kaffeeklatsch? It is a test area for women to hear and support each other. The idea came about as a result of a discussion at meta regarding my IdeaLab proposal (yet open) for WikiProject Women.
- Now that the klatsch has survived an MfD and WMF legal has said that it does not violate the non discrimination policy,[10] I am looking for women editors who might like to join.
- Although I have started a couple of discussions, they are not urgent. For now, the "Please introduce yourself" discussion is more important! I want to take it slow at first and build a small group before trying to address heavy topics or come up with big goals. For now, the klatsch is there as a sort of refuge. I hope you will consider joining, and invite other women editors, too, if you wish.
