Repeated spamming of www.nationalmeritscholarships.com

For the past month or so, an unregistered editor has repeatedly inserted links to nationalmeritscholarships.com: Linksearch en (insource) - meta - de - fr - simple - wikt:en - wikt:fr • Spamcheck • MER-C X-wiki • gs • Reports: Links on en - COIBot - COIBot-Local • Discussions: tracked - advanced - RSN • COIBot-Link, Local, & XWiki Reports - Wikipedia: en - fr - de • Google: search • meta • Domain: domaintools • AboutUs.com , a website that has nothing to do with the subject and is pure spam. I recommend adding the website to the blacklist but I defer to those more experienced in dealing with link spam as to exactly what should happen e.g., semi-protection of the article, blocking the specific IP addresses that have been used, implementing a range block. Generally you can always remove such occasional spam yourself (please leave a short edit summary in such cases). New tool: External Link checker

This tool fetches all external links used on an article, then performs a linksearch counting the number of current usages of the corresponding domain. I originally intended it to be a means of detecting crap sourcing in paid for articles, but it turns out it is a lot better at detecting entrenched REFSPAM and utterly devastating against certain types of REFSPAM. For additional fun, feed the domain name and title into WikiBlame to find out who added the spam in the first place (select "force searching for wikitext" for best results). You could be surprised.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions, though I cannot guarantee they are technically possible. I'm also willing to consider PC1 and semi-protection for spam targets and blocks for spammers. MER-C 19:35, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
