This is a general rather than a specific report. This article has become a magnet for spam about, and external links to, all manner of apps and websites offering Passbook applications. It needs a thorough going-over but I just don't have the time (or the energy) at the moment. Thanks.--ukexpat (talk) 17:44, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Done. Let's see if my edits stick or if anyone wants to open up discussion to justify that massive collection of external links. ElKevbo (talk) 23:07, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Links at User:Bamajr

Can someone else please take a look at User:Bamajr? He advertises himself as an "Internet Marketing, Search Engine Optimization and Web Design consultant" but it looks like two dozen or so links on his User page are ol' fashioned link spam. But maybe I'm grumpy and unwilling to AGF anyone who has anything to do with SEO so additional opinions or action are welcome. ElKevbo (talk) 23:01, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

[2]

Spam to GameRanger has been going on for years now. Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds for example had multiple IP addresses with no edits other than to add a link to it on that article. [3] [4], etc. Not planning on looking through every IP edit on that article to add to the list. Is there a bot though you can run which will identify every single time GameRanger, eWarzone, and/or Voobly was added to an article by an IP address or a new user?

Not sure how many examples of this I need to find to prove that links to GameRanger need to be stopped, but seriously, its just all over the place. Dream Focus 07:01, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Voobly spam again

I and others have reverted IP addresses from spamming Voobly in the past, on the same articles being targeted yet again. Any way to block any addition to Voobly to Microsoft Ants and other places regularly hit by them?

There are many other IP edits to Microsoft Ants[5], as well as those to other articles, which did nothing but add links to Voobly. This is a constant never ending problem. Do I need to list every single time it happened? Please just check the history of the page. Since I just reverted yet another IP address that spammed it, I don't think it'll ever end. If nothing more, can we block IP addresses from editing these pages? Dream Focus 07:10, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

  • Repeated addition of what looks to be spam links to the EL and body of several articles. ([6], [7], [8]) User has been warned, but I'm particularly worried about these links. I haven't clicked on any of them, but they're using the shortened URL links and this seems like it's almost certainly redirecting to sites filled with malware, viruses, or several other nasty things that'll ruin computers. It's especially troubling considering that he's going through and replacing the links for things that were already there, such as replacing EL James's official author link with his own spam links. He's been warned, but I think this is one of those situations where it'd be best to ban him outright. If there's a way to check to see if he's using any other accounts, that'd probably be a good idea. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 07:25, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Template spamming

Not sure if this is the right place to get other editors to look into this, but back in October, this user spammed {{Modern Dharmic writers}} into dozens, if not hundreds of articles which were not included on the template itself. He also added it to many, many articles of people who are not even writers. Here is a link to the evidence of this, ending 29 October 2012 (scroll about halfway down then continue). I have been trying to remove these, but at least in some cases where he is watching the page, he is returning them. This is a form of spamming, right? Yworo (talk) 21:36, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

No it isn't, as these is no external interest is being promoted against policy. You also appear to be forum-shopping. MER-C 10:49, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
I suppose it might appear that way to someone who doesn't consider that a particular act may have multiple components to it, which components will not be covered by another noticeboard which doesn't handle that particular aspect of a problem. Yworo (talk) 21:54, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Lutterworth Press spam

User:LutP was just blocked as it appears that he or she has been adding links or references to books published by The Lutterworth Press. Some of the material have hyperlinks to lutterworth.com or jamesclarke.co but some of them do not. I'm trying to remove the material by going through that editor's contributions but I may not get to all of them right away so any help would be appreciated. ElKevbo (talk) 14:19, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

has added a link to www.wiicom.it to four different pages (so far). I have reverted and used TW's warning templates. (I have used only level 1 and 2 warnings on their talk page as no edits have been made after the first L2 warning.) Although the products offered do have some relationship to the article subjects the link fails several aspects of WP:ELNO, in particular the linked page does not add anything to the articles that is both relevant and notable. So far this is an SPA - this is 79.6.215.154's sole use of Wikipedia.

This user has been linking to avvo.com under the guise of adding references. To me it seems like sneaky spam but I'm posting it here for a second opinion. Also of interest is [13]. James086Talk 19:29, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

I'm not using the template because I'm not reporting spam - rather trying to avoid getting useful external links deleted.

I and others have noted numerous external links coming in from pages of this site by an anon who may have a COI. See User talk:68.21.18.17. On the surface it looks like a classic spam attack. Nevertheless, I was very happy when I first saw these links, because of the quality of the writing. This is a non-profit professional academic organization giving away stuff that you used to have to buy their books to get (from their Buildings of the United States series). In particular, I usually concentrate editing on historic buildings in SE Pennsylvania, and their material for these sites is written by the top expert in this geographical area.

Clearly something should be done to modify the anon's behavior, but I hope not all the links are removed en masse and we don't bite the newby. I also hope that they don't get blacklisted. Please let me know if you have suggestions on what's the best thing to do. Smallbones(smalltalk) 14:41, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
