Empire of Brazil FAC is now open!

Empire of Brazil is now a Featured Article candidate. Your opinion (either as support or oppose) is welcome. Here is the page: Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Empire of Brazil/archive1. Kind regards, --Lecen (talk) 14:18, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Why so many articles?

Does Wikipedia needs an article for every single former state that existed? For example, there is Mexican Empire, then First Mexican Empire and also the Second Mexican Empire. We are talking about two short lived monarchies that lasted around a year one and three years the other. Wouldn't be better simply one article for both? United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves is another example that can be given. It existed from 1815 until 1822, no more than seven years. Everything related to it could be simply removed to Colonial Brazil or something similar. The point is: do we need so many articles? And most of them are articles that will certainly never be improved upon. Regards to all, --Lecen (talk) 05:02, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes. I'd say 7 years is significant. I'm unable to find WikiProject guidelines here concerning what is to be considered a Notable subject deserving the right to an article and therefore the protection of this WikiProject. Lecen do you have a recommendation? --Hutcher (talk) 18:15, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm not saying that they are not notable on their own right. But it would be quite hard, almost impossible, to write an article about the First Mexican Empire that had information regarding its economy, society, demographics, culture, etc... It lasted for less than a year! I'm not saying that these kind of articles shouldn't exist, but they certainly can follow the same standard used in articles about the Roman Empire, Ottoman Empire, Empire of Brazil, etc...
In articles related to countries that lasted for a short period, perhaps they could be more simple than other that lasted longer. Let's say that I write an oustanding article about the aforementioned First Mexican Empire, from its very beginning to its end. I believe it shouldn't be necessary to have further information regarding economy, demographics, etc... to be nominated to FA, for example. Regards, --Lecen (talk) 19:37, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Infoboxes

Are we aloud to use the former country infobox in former unrecognized countries? Spongie555 (talk) 00:26, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

How do I create an Empire of Brazil task force?

Right now there are 4 Features articles related to Empire of Brazil and soon the latter will be a FAC by itself. How do I create a task force devoted to this subject? Regards, --Lecen (talk) 23:24, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

I recommend proposing it here Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals. If it gets enough support votes then they make the project for you. Also would it be better if it was a Latin American Monarchies task force? Beacuse other then the empire of brazil there was two Mexican empires, three Haitian empires, one unrecognized kingdom in chile and Argentina and not to mention the native kingdoms like the Incas and Aztecs. But a Empire of brazil task force would be cool too. Spongie555 (talk) 01:30, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

User:Dbachmann tagged the latter for merge on september 6, 2008: [1]. I have notified WikiProject Hungary and Former Countries. Please discuss here. All input welcome. Thank you. walk victor falk talk 23:16, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

List of predecessor states

As far as I could find, there are currently only two lists for predecessor states to current countries:

The European one looks rather incomplete. Why not create a single list including all current countries and their predecessor states? Jmj713 (talk) 18:59, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
