Project Barnstar[edit]

I have a basic design done for the project barnstar, but no ideas for a good name. Suggestions welcome ASAP! KV5Squawk boxFight on! 01:29, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How about "The Friendly Confines Barnstar"?--LAAFan 02:20, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How about this:
The WikiProject Chicago Cubs Barnstar!
{{{1}}}

You can add text to it just like any other barnstar with the {{blah blah|message ~~~~}} template! It could be renamed as The Cubbies barnstar or The North Siders barnstar too. WikiZorrosign 12:50, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Any name is fine, but I actually went ahead and made a star graphic, like I did for WP:PHILLIES. I like the idea of having Wrigley on there, but let me go back and take a look at it. KV5Squawk boxFight on! 13:31, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Here's what I did:
The Cubs Barnstar

KV5Squawk boxFight on! 13:35, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sweet! I couldn't find a free-cubs logo and LAA wanted it to have Wrigley field, but that ones Perfect! WikiZorrosign 15:15, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you guys wanted me to decide, so the winner is User:Killervogel5]'s barnstar.--RyRy5 (talk) 15:55, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Took me a while to break that logo down from circles... Thanks for the appreciation, guys. KV5Squawk boxFight on! 16:30, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah and it took me 30 seconds! Great job KV5! WikiZorrosign 20:26, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Advertising[edit]

To insure more users will join the project, does anyone know how to make a Wikipedia Ad? I'll have a go at it, but my chances of success are slim.--LAAFan 14:36, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You have to make a .gif file using an external application WikiZorrosign 15:16, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Okay then. I don't know how to do that. I tried.

How[edit]

Do you you write a message in your barnstar, Killervogel? --LAAFan 15:56, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Same directions as above for the other. KV5Squawk boxFight on! 16:29, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I tried with the template on the project page for making it, but I had no luck. Can you show me a prototype?--LAAFan 16:46, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll try to make one... Doing... Uugh! It looks black, but...  Done I couldn't make it png, so the background is black!WikiZorrosign 20:04, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sorry, I meant for the special Cubs barnstar. It doesn't work.--LAAFan 20:38, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I hereby award this barnstar to the WP:CUBS talk page for being the talk page of WP:CUBS. KV5Squawk boxFight on! 18:06, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Does this look more cubs-like, or is it too jazzed up? WikiZorrosign 19:02, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How about this?
The Cubs Barnstar
This barnstar is blah blah... KV5Squawk boxFight on! 11:32, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox[edit]

Could the userbox have a red outline (because the cubs are red & blue)? It would look like this:

CHCThis user is a member of WikiProject Chicago Cubs.

WikiZorrosign 23:27, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. KV5Squawk boxFight on! 01:22, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Inviting more users[edit]

I am currently inviting users to join this WikiProject. I am asking users listed as Cubs fans. (Only 6 members, 2 to go.) If anyone else would help me with inviting, drop me a line on my talk page.--LAAFan 03:25, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • After looking at the page again, a member I invited joined the WikiProject!--LAAFan 03:26, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

B. Wolterding has a bot which will generate cleanup listings for projects, but the project needs a banner for this to work. So the question is, do we want to take on the task of cleaning up Cubs related pages? --Fabrictramp | talk to me 13:53, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think we do. The wikiproject is getting inactive quick.--LAAFan 15:18, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Chicago Cubs[edit]

You guys should set up a bot to tag articles in Category:Chicago Cubs and its subcategories.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 07:21, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's not too hard to set up, I think most people ask for a list of categories now though and don't just dig through sub-categories. I might post a request later. —Borgardetalk 07:58, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Posted request here. —Borgardetalk 08:31, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done : Around 1535 articles for the project were tagged by TinucherianBot. -- Tinu Cherian - 08:10, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So do I get at {{CubsBarnstar}} for creating the first WP:CUBS WP:GA?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 07:26, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you ask for it, you won't... – RyanCross (talk) 00:12, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well[edit]

How am I not invited to this? Wjmummert (KA-BOOOOM!!!!) 23:47, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We gave the invitation to your valet, and he assured us you would receive it. He's probably stealing the silver, too. ;-)--Fabrictramp | talk to me 01:41, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shawon Dunston[edit]

FYI --- The Shawon Dunston page needs some major work to remove POV and add references. Most all of it isn't really suitable. Arleach (talk) 00:58, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinators' working group[edit]

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 05:06, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

Thanks. — Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 08:57, 15 March, 2009 (UTC)

Quick Peer Review?[edit]

I just completely overhauled List of Chicago Cubs managers and will probably nominate it for a Featured List soon, but I'd like some of you guys to look it over real fast to find any of my inevitable mistakes. If you have time, take a look! --TorsodogTalk 13:50, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WP 1.0 bot announcement[edit]

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:06, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced living people articles bot[edit]

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Chicago Cubs/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Chicago Cubs/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 01:16, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sports Notability[edit]

There is discussion ongoing at Wikipedia_talk:BIO#RFC:_WP:Athlete_Professional_Clause_Needs_Improvement debating possible changes to the WP:ATHLETE notability guideline. As a result, some have suggested using WP:NSPORT as an eventual replacement for WP:ATHLETE. Editing has begun at WP:NSPORT, please participate to help refine the notability guideline for the sports covered by this wikiproject. —Joshua Scott (LiberalFascist) 03:22, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons[edit]

The WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons (UBLPs) aims to reduce the number of unreferenced biographical articles to under 30,000 by June 1, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. There were over 52,000 unreferenced BLPs in January 2010 and this has been reduced to 32,665 as of May 16. A bot is now running daily to compile a list of all articles that are in both Category:All unreferenced BLPs and have been tagged by a WikiProject. Note that the bot does NOT place unreferenced tags or assign articles to projects - this has been done by others previously - it just compiles a list.

Your Project's list can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Chicago Cubs/Unreferenced BLPs. As of May 17 you have approximately 25 articles to be referenced, a 30.6% reduction from last week. Outstanding work! The list of all other WikiProject UBLPs can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons/WikiProjects.

Your assistance in reviewing and referencing these articles is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please don't hestitate to ask either at WT:URBLP or at my talk page. Thanks, The-Pope (talk) 17:07, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chicago Cubs articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release[edit]

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Chicago Cubs articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

WikiProject cleanup listing[edit]

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 21:11, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Post-season regional series[edit]

I thought I'd bring to your attention of a little nugget I found on Retrosheet. They have a list of post-season regional series' played in the early 20th century. Quite a few involved the Cubs vs White Sox. These were a different animal from the World Series. You can see it here, it may be worth exploring a possible creation of article(s) covering this.Neonblak talk - 15:24, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

MiLB Daytona Cubs[edit]

Hi, I was wondering if the Minor League affiliate teams are considered part of this project? I live in Daytona Beach, Florida, and have some interest in expanding the Daytona Cubs article. Any advice would be appreciated. 07:10, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject X is live![edit]

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool[edit]

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Margaret Donahue and Cubs HoF Template[edit]

I made a stub for Margaret Donahue - who was enshrined the year in the new Cubs hall of fame at Wrigley. I also built a template for the Cubs HoF and added it to the page of each and every member of same.

I didn't know what else to put in the Donahue stub, so I'll defer if anyone is still active in this Project. Regards, DaffydAtzinger (talk) 01:04, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User script to detect unreliable sources[edit]

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.
