new global requirements[edit]

starting in a few days there will in fact be global requirements for all new users, all users of advanced permissions, and anyone who changes their password. [1] It looks like the standards for new users will be basically what we already ahve here, and slightly higher for admins on up. And it also looks like we may finally get the password strength bar and WMF auditing we asked for in 2015. Beeblebrox (talk) 03:03, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not quite the same. New users (like everyone else) must not choose a password on the top 100,000 list. Currently that is the 10,000 list. The new requirements will apparently be enforced when anyone creates an account or changes their password, and also for privileged accounts when they next log in. The Requirements section is now totally incorrect. That is what happens when documentation is duplicated: this page is obsolete and meta:Password policy is what matters. I'm not sure that fixing this page is a good idea because it will be superseded again. Perhaps just replace the section with a motherhood statement and a link? I changed to a bit of history and a pointer to the current global policy. Beeblebrox (talk) 04:56, 17 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that's a good result. Johnuniq (talk) 06:11, 17 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
