Insulting name

Hello, please rename User:Va_te_faire_*_sale_fils_de_* in what you want, and you can block it. The name is an insult in French, and the user makes dummy edits to insert it in articles history.

I don't use the recommended form to not leave this name is history

Regards

--Hercule (talk) 14:46, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

  • I've blocked the user, I don't see a pressing need to change the name though. –xenotalk 14:50, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
I ask renaming because he appear in some article history. I let you see what is the best.

Archiving

Links need to be provided on this page to get to the archived requests. This is important for both those who made the requests and to bureaucrats. Chris G Bot 3 doesn't even say in its edit summaries where the archives are. Kingturtle (talk) 14:25, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

There were links, but AD removed them. Personally I like having the links there and don't think it affects the layout/clutter of the page too much so I have reinserted them, however if enough people prefer it the other way feel free to revert me. I will add links into the edit summaries in a second. --Chris 10:29, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Rename Request

I want a rename from Alex Bieser to NERVUN, my multi-website username. I don't want to be identified by my real life name. NERVUN (talk) 22:17, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Edits

I changed my username, but I have only 69 edits now (I had over 1000). Can you transfer my old edits to my new account? Thx.--Wustenfuchs (talk) 20:48, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

They take some time to move over, but it would appear they have done so already: see here. demize (t · c) 21:00, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Ok, I was watching at My preferences... It's fine now.--Wustenfuchs (talk) 23:59, 16 January 2011 (UTC) Lol, and it seams I forgot I need to log out and log in with new name... sorry.--Wustefuchs (talk) 00:08, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

New link in {{Renameuser2}}

I've added a link to leave a {{CHU note}} on the requesting user's talk page. All it should require is you pressing save, but if any problems come up feel free to revert the addition. demize (t · c) 20:33, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Is anybody here?

May I ask when is going to happen change of my old username to the new one? Is that a matter of days, weeks, months or...? -- Jonesy22 talk 14:08, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

At the end of the day, it happens when a bureaucrat mashes a button. Since some of the active 'crats are away right now, the delays are a little longer than normal, sorry. As to your particular request, since the requested username exists, I've posted a clerk note you should reply to before it is processed. Courcelles 14:24, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
Ok.--Jonesy22 (talk) 07:43, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Question

In the instructions, it says under step (7): "Do not login again under the old username as that may prevent your edits from being moved to your new username." I'm assuming this means after the change has been approved -- it's a bit ambiguous given it's placed before step (8). Also, how much time do I have to log out after the change is approved? Thanks. -- Jake fuersturm (talk) 18:17, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

I thought it meant "Do not login again under the old username" once you've made the namechange request. But then it goes on to say, "Do not be surprised if you suddenly cannot log in to your old account". This is extremely unclear. I see the above question was raised in March, and still no response...? --gråb whåt you cån (talk) 11:18, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

I'll highlight this at WP:BN --Dweller (talk) 13:18, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

  • This problem mainly affects users with a lot of edits, as those are the renames that are prone to errors. If you log in to the account or access the account while the change is in process it could cause the rename to stall out as described at bugzilla:17313. –xenotalk 13:34, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
I've reworded it to make it more clear. How does it look now? ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 16:07, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
It's a bit of an isolated error and my only concern is that sometimes requests sit for a period of time and those people thus can't participate while they're waiting. –xenotalk 16:36, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, 日本穣 and xeno. The new wording is less ambiguous, but there remains an apparent contradiction between logout and do not login again under the old username and Do not be surprised if you suddenly cannot log in to your old account. If you obey the first injunction then the second situation will not arise! --gråb whåt you cån (talk) 21:14, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
Yes, but not everyone pays attention to everything, so it's sometimes necessary to be a bit redundant. They don't really contradict each other. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 05:22, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
I said apparent. And this appearance of contradiction remains a potential source of confusion and opacity. --gråb whåt you cån (talk) 15:34, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
Semantics. I don't see a reason to change the second wording at all. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 16:42, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

RGTraynor => Ravenswing

I requested a name change, which was mostly accomplished in April - and thank you! - but the edit history hasn't been quite finished. I've just found out, courtesy of the X! Edit Counter [1] that several hundred edits from January, February and March of 2010 have not yet changed over. I verified this from a glance at the edit history for this article [2], which shows a knot of edits still under the old name around January 20, 2010, but under the new name both before and thereafter. Could someone check on this and complete the transfer of the edit history?  Ravenswing  20:20, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Hmm. Give it another couple of weeks to see if it's just a backlog on the server and if it's still like that, please post to WP:BN, although I'm not sure there's much we'll be able to do for you. --Dweller (talk) 13:31, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Username question!

Before I changed my old username (whathitz) to my current one (Therewillbehotcake), why is it that Wikipedia capitalized the first letter of the latter when I never gave an indication to do so? When I first registered under my former username, this never happened. Explain? therewillbehotcake (talk) 18:00, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

The software always capitalizes the first letter of usernames. See [3]. –xenotalk 18:05, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
