Draft

Certainly while the creator is seeing if any other editor is willing to join, it makes sense for this project to be marked as draft. I have done so. Echoing the above, I would encourage the creator to follow the process outlined at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals. UnitedStatesian (talk) 16:21, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

I've removed the draft template. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:11, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

Split Proposed

Resolved

A split was proposed in Conspiracy theories related to the Trump–Ukraine scandal. Elijahandskip (talk) 15:20, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

Why?

@Another Believer: I came here because Special:WantedCategories was being flooded with assessment categories for this project. I resolved that by disabling the quality cats in Template:WikiProject Joe Biden, in this edit[1]. The categories can be re-enabled if and when this project ever gets off the ground.

Before doing so, I had checked and noted the following issues:

  1. This is new project, created yesterday[2]
  2. I can find no evidence of any prior discussion anywhere. https://petscan.wmflabs.org/?psid=17419172 finds only two links to the project page other than from the project banner: the redirect WP:BIDEN, and User:Another Believer/Projects#WikiProjects and task forces
  3. There was no proposal at WP:COUNCIL/P, and I can find no proposal at any other WikiProject page, nor even at Talk:Joe Biden.
  4. Another Believer has a track record of creating failed WikiProjects, e.g.

So, it seems that this type of project rarely gains traction. Unless it becomes active soon, I will nominate it for deletion. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 10:49, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

@BrownHairedGirl: please do. Even the one participant has not bothered to reply! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:30, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, @MSGJ. I will give it fourteen days after its creation. Then MFD time. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 21:35, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
MSGJ, I didn't know I was supposed to reply. BHG suggested a specific action on their part. shrug, ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:39, 2 October 2020 (UTC)

@BrownHairedGirl: May I go ahead and archive this discussion? ---Another Believer (Talk) 13:02, 8 November 2020 (UTC)

I support you doing so. It's unproductive. Missvain (talk) 00:04, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
Missvain, Thanks, I will soon if no one else weighs in. Several people have signed up as participants recently so this is moot. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:06, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
  • I share to some extent BrownHairedGirl's concerns. There are way too many WikiProjects on Wikipedia, and I have yet to come across a WikiProject for an individual person that has really gotten traction (even presidents of the United States—WP:TRUMP has a few posts, but it's a fraction the activity level of Talk:Donald Trump, and I'd go to the latter if I wanted to discuss something relating to all Trump pages). {{u|Sdkb}}talk 01:45, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
Sdkb, I don't know what else to say at this point. There are a group of editors who have signed up as participants. I see no harm in using this project space to work on related articles until there's no longer interest. The project can always be folded at a later date. What's the point in trying to stop/slow this project's progress from the start? ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:00, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
@Another Believer: The issues I see with having lots of inactive/semi-active projects are that it creates potential for WP:TALKFORKs, confuses beginners who might not know it's not the best place to post (and more experienced editors who might be clicking through talk page banners trying to find an active project), and will use up editor energy when someone eventually decides to give it the boot. Having hyper-specific projects also draws attention away from the more general projects which will have a larger and more balanced editor pool. Overall, we're at a point across Wikipedia where most projects are inactive enough that we need to start a concerted effort to consolidate them and enforce the idea that they shouldn't be too specific. This isn't something that I feel so strongly about that I'll nominate it for deletion myself, but if it does get nominated by BHG or someone else, I hope this helps explain my perspective. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 20:59, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
Was asked to jump in here and helpout. Shame to see editor's trying to discourage other editors from contributing in a positive matter. Will fix up the page as best as I can this weekend. Still shocked to see people go out of there way to stop positive actions.--Moxy 🍁 22:45, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi. Admin here. First, please be civil and assume good faith. This is an unproductive conversation and it's only getting more and more negative. Second, bringing a project to Wikipedia:WikiProject Council is not a requirement to start a new project. Projects are started by a user if they believe there is interest. There is clearly interest, therefore this project is a welcome addition to our broader Wikipedia WikiProject community. Just like Wikipedia:WikiProject Barack Obama and Wikipedia:WikiProject Donald Trump. If someone has an issue with this Project please take it to Request for Comment - Wikipedia:Requests for comment/WikiProjects and collaborations. I think that'll be a waste of time, again, based on the model of assuming good faith, the fact that there is obvious interest in this project (including, to be transparent, from me) and there is no formal, policy-based process for new projects. I have started a few, long lasting projects in my day, so I have experience with this, I'm not just a talking head. I'm going to ask User:Another Believer to archive this, so this Project can move on to being productive. I know Wikipedians tend to like to beat a subject into the ground, but, I encourage you all to head off in your own ways and proceed to be productive on Wikipedia in the areas where you find interest so we can improve Wikipedia, rather than be dismissive of people's interests or projects. Again, if you have an issue with this Project, please take it up at RFC. Thank you everyone for assuming good faith in this comment and in each other, it is, to me, the rock of what makes Wikipedia the world's greatest online volunteer project. Missvain (talk) 15:27, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Commons

Hi everyone! Just want to let you know I have finally finished organizing the Commons categories for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Took a few months, but, all meta-categorized out! Woot! I'm also tweaking Doug Emhoff (small entry thus far) and I'll be organizing Jill Biden. Hope this helps. I was delighted to find this project kicked off - I was wondering if someone had started one this morning! Missvain (talk) 00:00, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

I also created this new category for Wikipedia a few minutes ago: [5] Missvain (talk) 00:03, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

Created a new page for American Rescue Plan

Hi everyone! I'm a new and inexperienced editor that created a draft on Biden's upcoming "American Rescue Plan" $1.9 trillion stimulus package. I'm having trouble properly listing the provisions of the bill from sources without crossing copyvio. I renamed the new draft to "American Rescue Plan Act" since my other namesake "American Rescue Plan" draft has significant copyvio and will be deleted soon; afterwards, it can be renamed back to "American Rescue Plan". I'm starting from scratch and hope other experienced people can help me properly write the draft for submission.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:American_Rescue_Plan_Act

If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it! :) Phillip Samuel (talk) 19:53, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

In IP has requested at Draft talk:Joe Biden Supreme Court candidates that the draft be moved to mainspace. I am hesitant to do so, as there has not yet been a vacancy on the Supreme Court for Biden to address, but I am also aware that there have been names discussed in reliable sources in connection with a potential future vacancy. I will leave it to this project to decide whether the draft should be promoted on that basis. Cheers! BD2412 T 00:54, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

Template

Hi - I'm not savvy with making fancy templates and I'm busy working on a few other Biden-related activities, but, might be a good idea to create a Biden presidency version of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Biden_Vice_Presidential_staff No rush, just a suggestion for our project to do list. I have moved Joe Biden 2024 presidential campaign to mainspace

Biden and his proxies have repeatedly said that he is running, which I think is enough to have a live article on the campaign. Basically, every appearance, trip, or event by a sitting president who intends to seek reelection has a dimension of being towards winning that reelection. Even if Biden were to decide not to run at this point, that would be more like a declared candidate dropping out (which we cover) than a possible candidate never declaring. After some discussion, I have returned the article to draft for the time being. Cheers! BD2412 T 17:46, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present.
