History of modern and ancient day Pakistan
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
An IP is completely revamping History of Pakistan into the two articles of modern day and ancient history of Pakistan. Please keep eyes on the article to keep track of lost content or possible vandalism amid the split or to help in the processes. I have no opinion whether to keep it as it is or split, though the article was overly long and this seems like a good bold move. --lTopGunl (talk) 16:13, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
- Since this IP is making cut / copy and paste moves, attribution history also needs to be repaired as per Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia licensing needs. --lTopGunl (talk) 17:07, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
- I have not reverted Bladesmulti at History of Pakistan as I have not counter checked what all needs to be removed in the split (also because the IP's account is still blocked) but I find the split valid in principle (also that IP's block has expired and his edit is not that of a sock any more), so I find the IP's revert at the new article History of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan valid (except for their block hasn't expired yet). This does not show agreement with what content the IP or the user wants to add to this article.. rather with the IP's intention that an actual article on this topic can and should exist to cover the history of the modern state (it has 60 years of post independence history that can not be covered in the main article and History of Pakistan is getting too long; a valid WP:MOS split I'd say). Additionally the ancient history of the region constituting Pakistan can do much better in a separate article ending at Pakistan movement while the modern article can start from a mild overlap of History of Pakistan. For an example see the counter part History of India and History of the Republic of India. --lTopGunl (talk) 08:43, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- That said, I can also understand that the article History of Pakistan is more probably an equivalent of History of the Republic of India; in which case History of India should be moved to History of Indian subcontinent which is a proper descriptive name and does not confuse while yet retaining the more contextual term "India" in its ancient context. This can also be supported by the fact that (agreeably) primary topic of the term 'India' is the 'Republic of India' (as it redirects there). Now after reading my own comparison I find that the latter may be a better compromise and desirable anyway because once we have decided the primary topic of term India to be the country we should regard it in all cases so I am willing to start an RFC at Talk:History of India. --lTopGunl (talk) 08:43, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- Agreed. Split should be made, this already 200 kilobyte article is too difficult to navigate. The general criteria for split is 100 KB. Faizan 10:41, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- I had no problem with the split at all. But when a user has copied(TopGun noticed) from some flawed revision along with the massive {{citation needed}} and other tags, it is maybe better to just recover the redirect. If we can write something better, we actually can, sure there is no problem in making a History of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Bladesmulti (talk) 10:56, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

- A split article is probably WP:DUE since the main article History of Pakistan is too long. Most textbooks and publications written on Pakistan's history delve into two periods (pre-independence and post-independence), and it probably makes sense to have separate articles covering the history of the region in both periods. The History of India article is too broad and covers the whole Indian subcontinent, whereas it may be a good idea to have a pre-independence history article focusing more on the ancient history covering the region of Pakistan. Apart from the Indian examples, we also have a precedent with how Bangladesh is covered; see History of Bangladesh and History of Bangladesh after independence. Mar4d (talk) 23:42, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- That makes sense. Perhaps we should create that article as a WP:PAK collaboration to avoid any socking in the subject area (ie. when more editors have eyes on it, sock or poor edits can be caught quickly). Once an actual article is in place, it will be easier to identify if some one is adding non-sense to the articles like Bladesmulti claims. For the History of India it is for the whole subcontinent and should also be changed to History of Indian Subcontinent. --lTopGunl (talk) 15:52, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
- History of Indian Subcontinent should be made into a better article as well, even if disambiguation, but it should highlight Bangladesh, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan. Bladesmulti (talk) 15:57, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
- Exactly. It should be a parent article and not delve into much details of current regions and should cover main historical information of all the regions and link to these as main articles of current civilizations just like it links to the ancient civilizations. History of Indian subcontinent is supposed to be a proper summary of all (can't be disambiguation per WP:DABCONCEPT. There's only one Indian subcontinent so no confusion; dabs are created when two or more things have same name like mercury for a planet and a metal etc). It will also make sense informing all wikiprojects of above mentioned countries (maybe we can recruit more editors with expertise in those areas). --lTopGunl (talk) 16:15, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

- I agree the point related to history of Pakistan, as Mar4d also described. I don't think there should be a problem for the History of Islamic Republic of Pakistan between keeping it redirected to History of Pakistan and splitting. The History of India was also moved to History of Indian Subcontinent. It will clarify the events of the history a lot.Justice007 (talk) 19:09, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

Regarding Saeeda Imtiaz, not only are there questions about notability, but an editor is constantly making odd edits, such as overlinking of common words and wikilinking individual letters of the alphabet. They keep coming back using different IPs and I think a Pakistani might understand this better. -- Brangifer (talk) 05:48, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
- Brangifer, The IP is Indian... seem like fan edits as the cultures and movies often overlap between the regions, although some of the content seems to have puffery or information apparently written in a WP:AUTO way... so I wouldn't rule out WP:COI as well.. can't really be sure which. Getting the editor to create an account might help track and guide them better. Subject seems to be weekly notable (although often such subjects have more Urdu RS coverage). I've drop them welcome-laws notices, maybe they'll read through. --lTopGunl (talk) 18:22, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

Liaquat Ali Khan assassination
Hello everybody ! I'm working on the French article of Liaquat Ali Khan right now, and I face difficulties to write about the suspect of the murderer of Liaquat Ali Khan. The english article seems very incoherent : the "Soviet Union and United States" section explain that US murder Ali Khan, whithout any doubt, quoting this source. On the contraty, the section "assassination" explain that we don't know... The better source I found is maybe this one, from Pakistan Today. It's about US declassified papers which explicitly say that the murder was organized by US. But there are very few sources, and they are sometimes incoherent. It seems weird to me that such an important revelation remains largely unsourced, and mention just in two or three newspapers. What is your opinion ? Do you have any sources ? Guillaume70 (talk) 15:53, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

"became predominantly Muslim due to missionary Sufi saints whose dargahs dot the landscape"
User:Vectorgraphics brought up an interesting issue: The above phrase has been added to more than a hundred articles, usually in a Punjabi context, though sometimes referring to Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa or Kashmir, too. Not a single one instance of use (of those I have checked out so far) comes with a reliable source backing it up. "Dot the landscape" doesn't strike me as particularly encyclopedic language and is uselessly vague anyway. If found instances of that content dating back to 2012, with user who added it at that time by now blocked for copyright violations. That line may also be copy-pasted from elsewhere, but since it was added years ago to a hundred articles and dozens of mirrors have picked up the line, finding an original source for that statement will prove a difficult task. User:Nestwiki has added generic sections containing that phrase to various articles including Dhunni and Khori Alam. I'm rather skeptical about those edits, which also violate Wikipedia's CC-BY-SA 3.0 license since the original author of that paragraph, whoever that may be, is not credited. Some serious cleanup may be required here. Huon (talk) 17:34, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

This page is a bit 'weird' in that it seems to have started out as a page about the Kirana-I nuclear testing site, was moved to Kirana Hills, but is still overwhelmingly about that test site. There is a lot of details that are repeated and not particularly important. I've removed a lot of excess links, and some un-sourced and apparently irrelevant text. Somebody here should have a look. It should probably be moved back to Kirana-I and a separate page about the Kirana Hills themselves split off. The first two paragraphs say. Cities lists
The list of most populous cities in Pakistan could do with some more attention. I had rewritten it based on the 1998 census, the latest reliable information on population for Pakistani cities, but was reverted based on original research and "sources" that either didn't confirm the numbers or were broken, possibly copy-pasted from elsewhere. I don't want to edit-war, but obviously we should not have unsourced speculation as population figures. Huon (talk) 16:31, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

RfC at Talk:Balochistan, Pakistan
Comments requested at Talk:Balochistan,_Pakistan#RFC_do-over.
Article is a general overview of the Balochistan region. The dispute seems to be about whether any content about insurgencies, human rights violations, etc. belong in this article.
Arguments against inclusion seem to center on POV, UNDUE and COATRACK. Some have argued that since articles exists at Balochistan conflict and Human rights violations in Balochistan, no summary of these subjects should exist at Balochistan, Pakistan. Instead, links to the relevant articles should be added to the See also section.
Arguments for inclusion center on insurgency and human rights violations being intrinsically tied to the history, government and culture of the region, so including a brief summary of the subjects and links to the main articles is proposed to be reasonable.

Baba is an honorific title that denotes very high respect, indicating the bearer's spiritual descent. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sunamikapreeti (talk • contribs) 13:10, 15 September 2015 (UTC)

Languages of Khyber Pahktunkhwa (Biased & Incorrect Map)
Languages of Khyber-Puhktunkhwa (Map) Map being used in various articles pertaining to languages of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is absolutely incorrect and biased. It is showing Tank (district) as Seraiki speaking which is incorrect as majority of people in Tank speak Pashto. It also shows Karak as Hindko speaking while we know that almost 99% of the population of Karak is Pashto speaking Khattak. It is showing battagram as hindko speaking while we all know that most of the people in Battagram speak Pashto and belong to yousafzai tribe of Pakhtuns. Similarly, it is showing Shangla as hindko speaking, which is incorrect as most of the people their also speak Pashto. Finally, it is showing Torghar district as Hindko speaking while we know most of the people their also speak Pashto. I think all this show biasness or incompetence on the part of the person who included that Map. Furthermore, it should also be noted that the map fails to show that most of the people on western side of Mansehra and Haripur speak Pashto, while most on western side of D.I.Khan also speak Pashto. I feel that the Map has grossly exaggerated the number of speakers of other languages and it must be deleted from commons repository. Thanks

Pakistani cities Transport and Economy section
I added information about Pakistani cities but editors from other countries keep on deleting.. I added Transport and Economy sections to major cities but they keep on deleting and then started bullying and saying that they will block me. I am hopeless.. please you add information on these articles
- Gujranwala: Transport; city has good road network, bus stations and bus services, auto rickshaws, Gujranwala railway station, Sialkot International Airport 50 km away
Economy; here are links for economy [1] [2]
- Peshawar: a large city in Pakistan needs economy and Transport sections has roads, bus services, railway station and Peshawar International Airport but editors delete all information.
- Islamabad: I divided transport section into bus rapid transit, auto rickshaw, railway station and airport.. information about railway station was deleted without telling the reason.
- Transport in Lahore: information about Lahore Metro was deleted without telling the reason — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mohsin17 (talk • contribs)
References
- Mohsin17, let's please not casually toss around the word "bullying", because it does not apply here. In these 11 edits that you made at Lahore, you only added two references that support some construction happening in the area. The rest of the content you submitted was vast and unsourced. In these edits there's only one reference for all the transport section you added. At Islamabad in these edits, again we see large sections of prose with no references. In one case you used Wikipedia as a reference, which is inappropriate as Wikipedia is not a reliable source. Wikipedia has a policy against original research. Though you seem to have meant well, when you explain in this edit at Yamaguchi先生's talk page that the content was based on your own personal research, having traveled in the region, that constitutes original research. We're only interested in what reliable sources say about the region, and the content needs to be verifiable. We can't go into a library and check out your brain to double-check that such-and-such a bus line runs through Lahore. Though I can understand your frustration, the bottom line is that the content you add has to be well-referenced, and the removal of this unsourced content is not a personal attack on you, it's just the enforcement of community editing standards. Hope that helps. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:51, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
- Mohsin17, numerous messages have been left on your talk page indicating that original research is not permitted on Wikipedia, and that sources are required for all significant content changes. I see on your talk page that you have been notified at least 5 times between now and October 2013, so I do not understand why you are continuing to add unsourced and otherwise poorly sourced content to these articles. Please adhere to our editorial policies and guidelines and I wish you well in you future endeavors. Regards, Yamaguchi先生 18:01, 2 October 2015 (UTC)

It would be helpful to have other views on the edit at [2] - see also the talk page for some context. Thanks. Doug Weller (talk) 19:20, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
@Doug Weller: I will check it. So far it looks reasonable, however it may need updating including the map. Some "new" Indo-Aryan languages were discovered in Iran and may need to be included in the map and texts.--Nadirali نادرالی (talk) 06:08, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

Pakistan-related topics participants may be good administrators
This is a big part of Wikipedia. Like elsewhere, editors working in this area use a skill set that helps them with the challenges of POV editing, copyvios, and much, much more. Well, these are considerations when evaluating candidates at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship.
So, please consider taking a look at and watchlisting this page:
You could be very helpful in evaluating potential candidates, and maybe even find out if you would be a suitable RfA candidate.
Best wishes,

Help on suspicious editing by IPs on Pakistan-related articles
Hello,
This type of edits look very suspicious, especially with the comment "made basic corrections". Also this is a very strange way of making "basic corrections".
I am not knowledgeable enough on the topics at hand to judge, however can someone please have a look at the edits of the following IPs?

I notice that the person(s) behind these IP often sign(s) messages in talk pages by Col (r) Mumtaz Khan and Prof (r) Hilda Khan. - The IP range belongs to the national telephone / internet carrier and should be a very busy IP range. The first two edits are obvious vandalism. I guess this is a matter for WP:AIV in case of persistence but it might be a different user in each case. --lTopGunl (talk) 19:55, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

- 39.54.49.246 (talk · contribs · WHOIS)
- 39.54.32.37 (talk · contribs · WHOIS)
- I also noticed that user Khani100 has (had) a very similar edit pattern, with activity on the same articles and similar edit comments such as "made basic corrections". Can't find why this user is no longer contributing under a username as this account is not blocked. Do you think action of some kind is necessary? I left some notes on IP talk pages about some specific edits I found contentious, with no answer. I think that a semi-protection on the pages most targeted by this user would be a good action, but I came here by chance and I am not at all knowledgeable on the Pakistani context, so I would not be a good person to raise it myself at WP:AIV. Pak101.com
Hi all, this Reliable Sources Noticeboard query may affect Pakistan-related entertainment articles. The question is whether or not the website Pak101.com constitutes a reliable published source. The site is being used as a reference in 50 articles/drafts/etc as of the running of this report. (That may change significantly, as I have mentioned this site at Wikiproject Spam and at RSN, so stuff might start disappearing.) Thanks for your input, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 00:41, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
- It is a private blog style entertainment website, not a credible source in Pakistan. Not sure if it qualifies as a credible blog (which might be a different story). --lTopGunl (talk) 19:58, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
- It is a blog. The way this article has been written, it is no where near credible source/blog. --Human3015TALK 16:43, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
Hi all, I had to remove a bad reference from Chund Bridge (pak101.com - see above), but it leaves the article reference-less. I'm having trouble finding references on this bridge and thought that one of you could help find at least one good one. Part of the problem is that I only speak English, so that limits my success. Maybe there's something here? Thanks, sorry for the homework assignment. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:06, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Auto-assessment of article classes
Following a recent discussion at WP:VPR, there is consensus for an opt-in bot task that automatically assesses the class of articles based on classes listed for other project templates on the same page. In other words, if WikiProject A has evaluated an article to be C-class and WikiProject B hasn't evaluated the article at all, such a bot task would automatically evaluate the article as C-class for WikiProject B.
If you think auto-assessment might benefit this project, consider discussing it with other members here. For more information or to request an auto-assessment run, please visit User:BU RoBOT/autoassess. This is a one-time message to alert projects with over 1,000 unassessed articles to this possibility. ~ RobTalk 01:19, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
