CORE 001: Problem Solving and Oral Communication is the new first year seminar at our university designed to have students focus on writing, information literacy, and communication skills.
In this section, students will be focusing on California's Central Valley (where the university is based) and the complex interactions between health, the environment, and the needs of agribusiness. As the nation's agricultural hub, the Central Valley needs significant resources, such as water and labor. However, this leads to complex problems such as air pollution, access to clean water, migrant labor exploitation, and pesticide exposure.
The Central Valley is largely overlooked, but students will work on Wikipedia pages to help make knowledge about the region more accessible.
