Wikipedia:Wiki Ed/California Polytechnic State University/LGBTQ Politics and Policy (Spring)

This course is a survey of the emergence and growth of the LGBTQ political coalition, primarily in the United States. Throughout the course, we will examine how intersecting social and political power structures contribute to the marginalization of LGBTQ people in public policy, but also how intra-group power dynamics that privilege whiteness, wealth, and gender essentialism led to the development of political priorities unrepresentative of the entire coalition. By the end of the course, students will develop an intersectional understanding of LGBTQ political mobilization and apply their knowledge to research projects examining how LGBTQ people engage in political activism and how governments respond to the demands of this diverse constituency.
