Welcome to the WikiProject North Carolina Resource Library! This page provides organized information guides and curated links to resources that might be useful in providing information, citations, and images to help build the various articles about North Carolina subjects.

Most of the links are to the Internet Archive, a free-content repository which contains many high-resolution digital scans of original works, freely available for download. Links are for the benefit of the North Carolina wikiproject, and should not be seen as an endorsement of any authors or organizations. Any assessment of an item's ultimate value to the Wikipedia project will rest with the editor who chooses to use it (and the broader community consensus).

Guidelines[edit]

To ensure its usefulness to all Contributors and Editors, every resource added to the North Carolina Resource Library, must fit ALL criteria listed below:

  • Freely accessible to any reader; (i.e. Not behind a paywall or requiring a password).
  • Suitable for use as a reliable source, providing factual information, OR a source of freely-licensed images.
  • Either within the public domain, freely licensed, or otherwise legally hosted at the destination site.
  • Non-commercial or historical (i.e. Not promoting a current interest). As with the standards of Wikipedia, this is not a place for promotional links (see WP:NOT).
  • Organize lists from A-Z by first name, last name, in "Books"; and website publisher or name, in "Websites" and "Freely-licensed images and media".

  • "Comprehensive Transportation Plans". Connect NCDOT. – Long term transportation plans for the state. Note: these plans are what various municipalities, counties, and MPOs want, not what will be built (See the NCDOT's State Improvement Transportation Plan map for the official long term plan).
  • "North Carolina". davesredistricting.org. – Contains up to date and past district maps for NC and the US. While free to use, the maps can be downloaded as a shapefile or PNG if you create an account (which is also free to do so). The site also has statistics which can compare the vote swing in precincts all the way back to the 2012 presidential election.
  • "DigitalNC". DigitalNC. – Online archive containing items from libraries, museums, and archives in North Carolina.
  • "Internet Archive". Internet Archive. – Non-profit internet archive service which also contain the Wayback Machine.
  • "National Archives". National Archives. – National Archives of the United States.
  • "North Carolina Health News". NC Health News. – Non-profit news organization with focus on public health.
  • "Colonial Records of North Carolina". ncdcr.gov. Produced by the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. – Contains digital copies and transcriptions of colonial records.
  • "North Carolina Digital Collections". ncdcr.gov. – Digital collections of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
  • "North Carolina Encyclopedia, NCpedia". NCpedia.org. – This website is an authoritative source for biographies and histories of North Carolina published by the North Carolina Government & Heritage Library. Many of the articles are based on William S. Powell's Encyclopedia of North Carolina.
