Wikipedia:WikiProject Elections and Referendums/Useful sources

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page lists useful sources for election-related material.

General[edit]

  • Adam Carr - coverage of national elections. Usually very thorough, although often groups minor parties together.
  • Direct Democracy (in German) Exhaustive details of almost every referendum ever held. Occasionally references Wikipedia, but most results are sourced from official sites, the media and books.
  • Election Guide - coverage of national elections and referendums. Recent updates have been patchy and results data is often poor (preliminary results are often left as final), but reasonably useful for details of electoral systems.
  • Election Passport Results by constituencies for several countries. Results data generally good, but doesn't always include invalid votes/registered voters etc.
  • Election Resources Details of electoral systems, parties and links to other useful sites
  • Elections Today All editions of the quarterly periodical from 1990 to 2004.
  • Global Elections Database Results for several countries since 1945
  • IDEA Contains some data, like votes cast, turnout etc.
  • IPU Parline - coverage of national elections. Comprehensive detail on electoral systems. Some basic details about election campaigns. Results data is mixed, but usually restricted to seats won, overall votes cast. Often combines seats won by minor parties.
  • Maximiliano Herrera Electoral Calendar.
  • The ECPR Political Data Yearbook Peer-reviewed reports on the election results, national referenda, changes in government, and institutional reforms in numerous countries on a yearly basis.

Continental[edit]

Africa

  • African Elections Database One of the most complete sources on elections. Results data is usually complete where available. Not updated for a couple of years though.
  • EISA Details elections in Africa, predominantly in countries in the south of the continent. Result data is generally good, although minor parties are sometimes combined. A good source for details of election campaigns. No obvious entry point to the data, so needs to be searched via Google (link is to the Botswana archive).

Europe

  • Elections in Europe (in French)
  • European Elections Database Only details elections since 1990 (national and European) and EU-related referendums. Results data sometimes combines minor parties.
  • Parties and Elections - coverage of national and sub-national elections in Europe. Results data limited to % of votes and seats won and usually combines parties that didn't win seats
  • "The Database" Coverage of post-communist elections in Eastern Europe. Results data is generally excellent and very detailed.
  • Scandinavian Political Studies Peer-reviewed reports on elections in the Nordic countries (articles in the category "Election Report").
  • West European Politics Peer-reviewed reports on election in European countries (articles in the category "Elections in Context").
