This is a guide to the main page of the Dungeons & Dragons WikiProject, including information on how to edit it. It does not include sections that are completely self-explanatory.

The main project page is made up entirely of other, transcluded pages, which makes editing the main page itself virtually pointless; to edit the page, you have to go to the transcluded pages themselves. Anytime that you make an edit that affects the main page, you might need to go to the main page itself, click on "Edit this page", and then click "Save Changes" without actually making any modifications for your change to show up.

One other thing to look for when editing the transcluded pages is that when you preview your changes, there may be additional code at the top and/or bottom of the preview that doesn't look like it should be there; this code is needed to keep everything looking correct on the main page, and will not be visible there.

Note: The editing-related guidelines here are entirely the opinion of one or more Wikipedians. Remember to BE BOLD and edit the page however you think is best; these guidelines are intended to make it easy for newcomers, and all users who aren't used to templates, to update the page.

Left Panel[edit]

To edit the left panel, go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Dungeons & Dragons/leftpanel.

Announcements[edit]

The Announcements section shows articles that should be looked at for various reasons by members of the WikiProject Dungeons & Dragons community, including candidates for featured articles, featured articles undergoing a review, good article candidates, good articles undergoing reassessment, articles with requested peer reviews, articles that require class reassessment (see below), articles that have a request for comment on their talk page, articles that are in AfD (Article for Deletion), and articles that have the "PROD" (Proposed Deletion) tag on them.

Although most of these are simple enough, "Class Reassessment" requires additional explanation. When you make a major change to an article, it may need to have its class reassessed... for example, a large addition to a Start-class article might warrant having it become a C-class article. Although you can change the class itself, it would be better for the community if you listed it in the Class Reassessment section until at least one other project member can take a look at it so that there is a larger community consensus for the change. This process should not be used when the article is first being created (as either a stub- or Start-class article), if it is becoming Start-class after being a stub, or if you are just changing the class to "Redirect", "List", or a similar class that doesn't have an assessment score.

Editing the Announcements[edit]

To change the announcements, edit the left panel and replace the text None at this time in a particular section with a link to the article that you're adding. All links here should lead directly to the article, except for Articles for Deletion, which should link to the AfD discussion.

Did you know...[edit]

The "Did you know..." section can be used in a similar way to the general Wikipedia "Did you know..." box on the Wikipedia main page, although they restrictions are less strict. If you come across a particularly interesting piece of information in a D&D-related article, you can add it in this section so that other members can also see it.

Editing the "Did you know..." section[edit]

The "Did you know..." section is transcluded into the left panel from Wikipedia:WikiProject Dungeons & Dragons/DYN; to edit the DYN section, you need to go there. To change the quote, replace the text in quotations with the quote that you found. Then, provide a link to the article where you found the quote in the "Main Article" section, and sign your name with four tildes in the "Added to DYN" section.

Goals[edit]

These are the long-term goals of the WikiProject. If you think that a new goal should be added, or an old goal removed, feel free to do so. Typically, however, it is better to discuss a change to the goals on the talk page before actually changing them.

Major Tasks[edit]

These are some of the major things that can be done to help the WikiProject. Completing a major task should take a lot of time and effort; it something would be more easily fixable, it should be a minor task.

Minor Tasks[edit]

Minor tasks are various things that can be done to help the WikiProject, and which shouldn't take too much effort. Things such as article expansion, wikifying, formatting, and merging should go here.

Editing the Minor Tasks[edit]

The minor tasks section on the left panel is transcluded from Wikipedia:WikiProject Dungeons & Dragons/to-do, so it should be edited there. Editing the minor tasks themselves should be easy; just add new tasks to appropriate sections and remove completed tasks. One thing to keep in mind is that whenever a certain type of task (such as merging or copyedit) contains no tasks, that section should be put in hidden text by using <!-- hidden text here -->; you'll need to remove the hidden text arrows to make a section visible again once something is put in it.

Watchlist[edit]

This section contains links to the Dungeons & Dragons public watchlist and the recent changes to articles in the watchlist. You can view what articles and other pages are on the watchlist by clicking the "Watchlist" link, and you can view changes themselves by clicking the "Recent changes" link; in most all other ways this functions just like a user watchlist.

Editing the Watchlist[edit]

To edit what articles are on the watchlist, go to the watchlist page and add the articles onto the page in the proper section. Note that it may take some time for the new pages to show up in the recent changes.

Right Panel[edit]

To edit the right panel, go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Dungeons & Dragons/rightpanel.

Navigation[edit]

This section includes the WP:D&D navbox, which should be placed on all D&D-related project pages. The navbox is transcluded into the right panel from Wikipedia:WikiProject Dungeons & Dragons/navbox, so it should be edited there.

Templates[edit]

This is a list of templates that may be useful for Dungeons & Dragons-related articles and pages. If you create a new template, please remember to add it here.

Statistics[edit]

This table shows where we're at in our effort to improve articles for the Wikipedia Release Version. This table is updated automatically when an article's class and/or importance changes, although it may take some time between the change and the update to the table.

Featured Content[edit]

This is a list of all of D&D-related articles that have some claim to fame... being a Good Article, previous good article, Featured article, Wikipedia 0.7 article, or Wikipedia 0.7 nominee are all reasons why an article would be included here.

Editing the Featured Content[edit]

In the right panel, you can edit the featured content easily; just remember to put additional articles in the proper section and with the correct image.
