T his page is being created with the intention of helping to determine which of the existing WikiProjects are most deserving of recognition as "exemplar" projects for other new projects and why. The exact details of how this is to be done are still under discussion, but I believe that we could reasonably limit voting to the members of the WikiProject Council, as those individuals who have seen fit to join it are the ones who have most clearly demonstrated an interest in the success of projects in general across wikipedia.

On the basis of the following, I am proposing that we list the individual projects we wish to be considered for recognition as exemplar projects below, with our reasons for supporting or opposing the inclusion of these projects listed after the name. Final details of how to do close the discussion will be considered on the talk page. I know of my own staggering unfamiliarity with most of the Science projects, so I sincerely hope someone better acquainted with them than I am adds some of the top projects from that area as well.

This is a group which was virtually moribund which has recently become not only one of the largest, but also one of the most active, projects out there. Their recent actions to make themselves as large and successful as they now are clearly deserve the attention of people interested in creating new projects. The creator of the task force system, and still one of the groups which does it best. How this group continues to function without undue rancor and dissent among all its members is one of the things the rest of us can all learn from. And, remember, this project deals with wars and conflicting national prides, making it even more remarkable that it is still able to function successfully. Projects which are either too new, or which are too comparatively non-productive to honestly be regarded as a template for success.
