XXX-Men[edit]

While last week's report was dominated by Oscar-winners such as Manchester by the Sea (film), Hacksaw Ridge, and of course La La Land, this week's reported is entirely devoted to action flicks, ranging from Marvel's superhero escapades with X-Men (see #1, #9, #22) to Vin Diesel's continuation of the XXX film series (#2, #13) to a reboot (#5) of the classic monster film King Kong. Only one Oscar winner is remembered, as it should: Moonlight. (#14) The film theme isn't limited to action blockbusters and the Best Picture-winner, however, as Get Out (#4) shows.

Besides the battle for box office success, there are also more literal fights going on. Apparently, it is pro wrestling season, with Fastlane 2017 (#7) taking place last week and WrestleMania 33 (#11) coming up next month. If you want something more realistic, you can watch UFC 209 (#12) to get your fix. You can find all kinds of entertainment this week, though if you like pop music, I hope you're a fan of Ed Sheeran (#6), because that's all you're going to listen to for a while.

1	Logan (film)	2,390,878	The final film to star Hugh Jackman (pictured) (#10) in his truly iconic role as Wolverine (#25) was released in the United States on March 3. The film stars Dafne Keen (#19) as the character X-23 (#17). The X-Men film series (#9) has always had success on this list, but I wonder if there have ever been this many articles related to it in the top 25 in any given week. After all, I haven't even mentioned all of them yet.
2	XXX (film series)	1,846,013	If we add the pageview statistics of disambiguation-page XXX to this entry, it would easily overtake Logan. It is impossible to say if all of the 2,178,728 people who checked that page out in the past week were looking for the film series. It is still really unclear to what degree these numbers are inflated by internet bots, but there are no clear signs this week that this is the case, other than the fact that this film came out back in January. I decided to only list this one and give it a spot regardless, but you may need to take it with a grain of salt. Maybe people just love Vin Diesel (pictured) that much.
3	International Women's Day	1,063,826	Celebrated annually on March 8, this year's International Women's Day follows the various Women's Marches held to advocate various basic human rights and in protest to Donald Trump (#15). It was bound to draw attention. Of course, it helps that there was a Google Doodle to celebrate the event.
4	Get Out (film)	864,755	Jordan Peele's comedy horror, or social thriller film is having a large amount of success. Presenting society as its monster, apparently revealing the effects of left-wing racism in the United States, Get Out has made $95,981,845 USD since it came out on February 24.
5	Kong: Skull Island	744,677	It has been a while since the last King Kong film was released (twelve years, to be exact), so in today's reboot-heavy film economy, it is only natural for a new film to be in the making. I'm fairly curious what contemporary computer-generated graphics will bring to the franchise.
6	Ed Sheeran	698,996	Ed Sheeran released a new album on March 3, titled ÷. I really have a thing for creative works with unusual titles, so respect for that. Interestingly, all 16 songs present in ÷ made it into the Top 20, and I do mean every single one of them. All three of his albums are in the Top 5 albums too. Are the record charts broken by online streaming services or is Sheeran just that good? It's clear that this man is successful either way.
7	Fastlane (2017)	675,091	A major professional wrestling event took place on March 5, in which Kevin Owens failed to defend his belt against Goldberg (pictured).
8	Deaths in 2017	673,290	Despite the lack of major deaths this week (only one (#21) reached the report), the list of deaths ranks pretty highly. That must mean it has been a relatively quiet week for once.
9	X-Men (film series)	632,031	Allow me to sing "Let's See How Far We've Come" as I look through the list of X-Men films. I grew up with this film series, and together with the Scary Movie series, it was a pretty important part of my childhood. I don't know if that's something I should be proud of, but it's definitely something you can never take away from me. I'm sure that, with Hugh Jackman leaving, many people are looking back on the past 17 years and see how far we've come.
10	Hugh Jackman	580,531	Jackman has been playing Wolverine (#25) for 17 years now, and he's wanted to get out of the X-Men film series for a while. He practically only had cameos in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Apocalypse, but as the most iconic actor in the film series, he just had to keep coming. The rest of the X-Men cast was replaced with younger actors when the film series rebooted around 2010, but Wolverine, being blessed/cursed with eternal youth, doesn't visually grow older. Jackman does grow older, however. Maybe they should have cast Keanu Reeves as Wolverine instead.
11	WrestleMania 33	558,972	With Fastlane behind us, everyone is looking forward to the upcoming WrestleMania event in April. I have no idea how pro wrestling works, but seeing as the event is described as the "Super Bowl of sports entertainment", I hope Kevin Owens can get his belt back.
12	UFC 209	552,982	If there wasn't enough muscled men going at each other for you, then I have good news! UFC 209: Woodley vs. Thompson 2 was a mixed martial arts event that took place on March 4. It seems reigning champion Tyron Woodley defeated Stephen Thompson, though I honestly had difficulty figuring that out based on the article we're keeping.
13	xXx: Return of Xander Cage	542,890	This marks the Return of xXx to the Top 25 report, after being excluded a few times. Pageviews spiked on March 7 and have naturally declined eversince, but I can't for the life of me figure out why. At least it allowed me to do this whole theme around the letter X.
14	Moonlight (2016 film)	532,448	Winning three Academy Awards, including "Best Picture", allows you to remain in the top 25 report for one week longer than other films. Tarell Alvin McCraney (pictured) must be very proud that the film is listed in such an honorable place on the internet.
15	Donald Trump	483,407	Donald Trump signed yet another executive order this week (pictured). Oh, it's another travel ban. Well, at least this time there are some exceptions in place. I'm still not sure what these six countries have done to the United States exactly, besides committing the Bowling Green massacre. Clearly, a travel ban should be placed on Turkey instead.
16	O. J. Simpson	477,870	The former American footballer and current felon was the subject of O.J.: Made in America; winner of the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
17	X-23	446,961	What I love most about the X-Men franchise is its huge variation in powers. Rather than just "super strength", "super speed", "super intelligence", you can get stuff like phasing and shapeshifting. I'm always excited when a new superpower appears in the X-Men franchise! Let's see what this X-23 brings to the table... oh, she's a clone of Wolverine and has regenerative healing, enhanced senses, speed, and reflexes. Oh well, that's what you get for getting your hopes up.
18	Queen Victoria	436,413	The TV series Victoria doesn't seem to be running right now, nor is The Crown. Yet, every Monday, interest in the old British queen peaks. Is there a third television series about the British royal family running right now that I don't know about?
19	Dafne Keen	426,129	Despite her age and lack of experience, Keen has worked her way into a huge film franchise that she may be part of for a long time. I'm looking forward to seeing her performance as X-23. Is she going to replace Hugh Jackman as the face of the series? I wonder if it's even moral to let an eleven-year old get herself into a project that may keep her busy for decades.
20	Shavarsh Karapetyan	410,973	Reddit celebrated this Armenian finswimmer who saved the lives of 20 people after a trolleybus sank into Yerevan Lake. Note that he was just finished running 20 kilometers when he heard the bus fall off a dam wall. Quite a hero: he was unconscious for 45 days due to the cold water and glass shards, thus ending his sports career prematurely. The story doesn't end there, but I'll leave you to read the article yourself.
21	Tommy Page	409,914	Of course, there must always be at least one major death in any given week. Tommy Page had a hit single in 1990 with "I'll Be Your Everything", but has otherwise been fairly low-profile. I've never heard of the man myself, but his music sounds very nice. 46 is way too young to die...
22	X-Men: Apocalypse	408,429	I assume the previous X-Men film got attention because of Logan (#1). A lot of people are probably trying to remember what happened during the last film. To be fair, all of the recent X-Men films have started to blur together from my perspective as well. This was the film in which Quicksilver saved all the people in the X-Mansion as it was blowing up, right? Wait, you're saying there was more to that film?
23	Joan Crawford	397,445	March 10 was the 40th anniversary of Joan Crawford's passing. This woman, known as "one of the greatest female stars of Classic Hollywood Cinema," played in various movies and television programs throughout her lifetime. Her life is subject of the television series Feud, which started airing on March 5. I must say, I am curious how her rivalry with Bette Davis in 1962 played out already.
24	Legion (TV series)	389,473	Three separate X-Men works are on this list simultaneously. Though Apocalypse (#22) likely got on here because of everyone's interest in the latest film in the series (#1), I am fairly certain that Legion got on this list entirely by its own strength. I have not yet watched this television series starring Dan Stevens as a schizophrenic mutant, but I hope it's good.
25	Wolverine (character)	388,716	I love looking through the categories listed on this article: Fictional judoka, Fictional jujutsuka, Fictional karateka, Fictional kenjutsuka, Fictional orphans, Fictional samurai, Fictional schoolteachers, Fictional World War I veterans, Fictional World War II veterans, Fictional Korean War veterans, Fictional Vietnam War veterans, and so on. Logan has done it all.
