Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

EditorThanos initially claimed to be a bot account "managed and run by Kamilalibhat". Kamilalibhat denied any connection. Edits such as this have raised my suspicions again though. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:28, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

See also this and compare the signature here with the text formatting here. Either EditorThanos is just imitating Kamilalibhat, or they're the same person. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:18, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Kamilalibhat's my CVUA trainee, I can discuss WP:SOCK with them if needed. I don't see any bad intentions here either. Pahunkat (talk) 22:06, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: I'm Kammill (formerly Kamilalibhat). I would like to tell you that at the time of running these two accounts I was unaware of sockpuppetry and really I didn't knew that this could lead to the blocks. I apologize for my mistake. I would also like to tell you that I haven't used account, EditorThanos since I was informed about sockpuppetry by my CVUA trainer Pahunkat. I have promised Cordless Larry that I will never run multiple accounts. Thanks, –Kammilltalk⟩ 08:10, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yes, I don't think there's any malice here - although the editor is already running an alternative account aside from the EditorThanos one and really needs to stick to one account. Cordless Larry (talk) 21:56, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would like to note that I would close this with no action as a good faith mistake from a good faith editor, but as I consider myself WP:INVOLVED with regards to Kamilalibhat after taking them on as an adoptee, I won't close (my reasoning being that I wouldn't feel uninvolved enough to block, so I don't think its fair to then make the decision not to block if you see what I mean). If another clerk, admin or arb would close this with the action they feel is appropriate soon that would be helpful. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 22:43, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

I'm getting a headache. So Kamilalibhat was renamed Kammill, who was renamed Hulged? But Wahhid was also renamed Hulged? Even if that were right at all (Wahhid was editing in March still?), it doesn't make a lot of sense to have a few of these accounts still laying around being retired. And what does EditorThanos have to do with all of these? But the problem here is that TheHornbill is a perfect technical match. And another problem is that Ulluly, a VOA, is also a technical match, who started vandalizing just after Hulged signed off. (Hulged seems to have made more than a few edits while logged out.) Mailer diablo, you've dealt with this before; please help us out. Favonian, you blocked Ulluly--what do you think? Is this another good hand, bad hand account, by someone who's had more usernames than I've had dogs? At the end of the day, at the very least I think we need some tags on some user pages, and some "old" "alternative" accounts blocked... Thanks. Drmies (talk) 22:44, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Drmies, from what I can tell (and some of this may be wrong), Kamilalibhat has been renamed to Kamill who has been renamed to Hulged. KamilAleeBhat is an older account, the existence of which is unclear, which was renamed to Wahhid and is tagged on the userpage as an alternate account. EditorThanos was theirs and they admitted it in the previous SPI, promising me to stick to one account. I have absolutely no idea why Ulluly and TheHornbill are matches, but it's giving me headaches as well. Pahunkat (talk) 09:58, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Your first sentence corresponds with my thought; it's all the rest that I find so problematic. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 12:40, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • This case is being reviewed by Blablubbs as part of the clerk training process. Please allow him to process the entire case without interference, and pose any questions or concerns either on his talk page or on this page if more appropriate. Blablubbs|talk 09:47, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Confusing indeed. Wahhid was formerly KamilAleeBhat ([1]); Kamilalibhat was first renamed to Kammill and then to Hulged ([2][3]). EditorThanos was undisclosed at first, then disclosed after the previous SPI. Wahhid is a disclosed alt ([4]), so there's no policy violation. The Hornbill, however, wasn't disclosed, and there's ample overlap ([5][6][7][8][9]). Disclosed or not, the sheer number of accounts (plus the logged-out editing) strikes me as a deliberate attempt to confuse and/or evade scrutiny. Drmies, is Ulluly {{confirmed}}? If so, I'm very confident that this is some sort of GHBH thing, given the countervandalism interest of the others and the fact that Ulluly isn't a run of the mill VOA but gives off very strong LTA vibes, and would strongly recommend they all be blocked indefinitely. If someone does block, you can feel free to leave the tagging and case move to me. Best, Blablubbs|talk 10:20, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Blablubbs, they're all confirmed to each other, yes, although I forgot all the individual ins and outs--they all match up with each other. Drmies (talk) 01:45, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • For clarity's sake: Hulged = Ulluly, and Wahhid = TheHornbill = Hulged. Drmies (talk) 17:13, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks Drmies. That's good enough for me; I might be willing to assume good faith with regard to the VOA, but the fact that the VOA is LTAish, coupled with the confusing use of multiple accounts, disclosed and undisclosed, plus the frequent renames which seem to fall in the same category, plus behaviour like the creation of this massive list of newsletter recipients who are mostly tenured users who, as far as I can tell, haven't asked to be included, adds up to "likely trolling" in my head. At the very least, Hulged should have to offer a very, very, convincing explanation for all of this before they're allowed to edit further. Pink clock Awaiting administrative action – please block all indefinitely; you can leave the tagging to me if you prefer. Thanks and best, Blablubbs|talk 07:14, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Drmies, Vidhweshwar (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · spi block · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki), a "new user" who created their user talk page and user page in their first edits, just showed up on my talk page (with a pretty neat custom signature) asking for adoption; this comes right after Hulged indirectly discussed me here (indicating awareness of this SPI) – like the other accounts here, they also start edit summaries in all caps and edit from mobile, and don't use mobile VE. Mind having a look? Blablubbs|talk 13:08, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Blablubbs, that account is unrelated to these accounts (which I blocked). However, Vidheswar is a perfect match with Yogeshwarah (talk · contribs) (but what that means is unclear), and that account in turn claims to have a sister, Logical Puzzle, on the same IP but with different machinery. I have little doubt that the latter two are COI/paid editors, and they're weird: brother and sister were arguing over deleting Draft:Deepinder Goyal (look at the history for weird deletion tags and rationales). Drmies (talk) 14:34, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
      • @Drmies: Huh, interesting. Thanks for the check, I'll look at the other two in a bit. Did you deliberately leave Wahhid unblocked? Best, Blablubbs|talk 14:40, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Alright, everyone is blocked, now also  Tagged, and the other group is probably better handled at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Phoenix man (I see Drmies already left a comment there; thanks) – closing. Blablubbs|talk 14:55, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sorry if I've missed something, but is there a reason why we lost TheHornbill from this case? Cordless Larry (talk) 15:19, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Cordless Larry, you're right, good catch – looks like the script removed it while renaming. While I have you: Would you mind blocking that one too? Blablubbs|talk 15:26, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    Already done. Drmies (talk) 17:11, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks. Now also tagged. Blablubbs|talk 22:29, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
