Suspected sockpuppets

User:Ryanspir has been a problem for a week or so at articles relating to the use of silver particles in alternative medicine. Broadly speaking, Ryanspir is obviously an advocate of the use of silver this way and is a SPA using wikipedia to further this viewpoint. After butting heads with several other editors, he was warned that further edit warring would result in a block. Since then, these other two accounts have shown up and edited the article Medical uses of silver in the same advocative style. See [1] and [2] for Blakebeau; [3] for Rayofdiscovery. See [4] this identical edit by Ryanspir. Requesting CU to confirm and look for sleepers. Basalisk inspect damageberate 19:49, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Comments by other users[edit]
  • Comment I'd actually be surprised if Blakebeau were a sock due to certain distinct style and content differences I'm detecting. Not at all surprised if Rayof... turned out to be connected, though. Zad68 20:08, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm convinced Ray is a sock account, and given the disruption to this point I have indeffed the master and sock. Looking at style of communication on the talk page I'm not certain that Blake is connected, and in the absence of CU evidence I'm going to avoid guessing. • I did another check while reviewing Ryanspir's unblock request, and have concluded that the two blocked users are Red X Unrelated, and since Basalisk is on a wikibreak, I have unblocked them. —DoRD (talk) 13:25, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Already Confirmed by User:DoRD via IRC. Evading scrutiny. Noticed the sock who was causing disruption at WP:DRN via a report on my user page, pointing me to the ANI report. Master's activities are also problematic, bordering on improper advocacy, and some oddly spammy deleted contribs. I'm not convinced this is the master, just the oldest account I can find for now, and there is surely another master, making both of these socks, for all intent and purposes. Dropping off to allow another admin to determine block lengths. Dennis Brown |  | WER 17:11, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • It might be worthwhile to dig even deeper here, as an older master is very, very likely. Dennis Brown |  | WER 17:16, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Clerk note: Given the level of disruption by several of these accounts, I have indefinitely blocked the socks and the master. Closing. Reaper Eternal (talk) 19:27, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets

Jumped into discussion at Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution_noticeboard#Talk:Morgellons_discussion the same time as blocked InLoveNoi, a sock of this same master, but also as a editor at the article in question in that case. That's not much evidence but the grammar is quite similar and note the odd hyphenation of "anti-biotic" in this edit by the sockmaster and this edit by Rodneye9110. If this is proven to be a sock of Ryanspir, then for InLoveNoi/Ryanspir to have both taken part in the dispute at the article as Rodneye9110, then to try to mediate the dispute at DRN as a DRN volunteer under the InLoveNoi guise is a particularly severe breach of trust. Interestingly, the Ryanspir account mentions personal experience with using colloidal silver to successfully treat a condition, while the Rodneye9110 account mentions receiving treatments for Morgellons. 198.199.134.100 (talk) 02:07, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets

Sierraparis account was created and jumped into the Talk:Morgellons discussion as a "fringe research should be included for neutrality" advocate immediately after the Rodneye9110 sockpuppet account was (temporarily, then permanently) blocked and has a very similar writing style to both the Rodneye9110 and InNoiLove sockpuppet accounts of this master. When another editor posted fake sockpuppet investigation notices to the user page for Sierraparis, Sierraparis replied on user:talk with "what's a sockpuppet?" when the links explaining such were clearly available.

Evidence for the Erythema link is that the Sierraparis account also signs their username in plain text after the standard Wikipedia signature (though the Erythema account stopped doing this after the similarity was pointed out), also tries to get other editors to consider unreliable sources' opinions on Wikipedia's Morgellons article or the sources' credibility, is also a relatively recently created editor account that meets WP:SPA criteria, and brings up Middelveen by name (a fringe researcher that some editors suspect to be the RL identity of Erythema, which would violate WP:NOR). However, Erythema seems more articulate than the other sockpuppet accounts; Ryanspir may just be a troll attempting to get other editors blocked by mimicing them, which is why I've requested the CheckUser. 198.199.134.100 (talk) 09:20, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Updated above with diffs, some clarification. 198.199.134.100 (talk) 05:08, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. These users seem to have distinct personalities. For instance, Erythema is prone to wordiness, a characteristic not seen in other sockpuppets. Sierraparis is more likely, but I personally don't think the evidence is substantial enough. Sailsbystars (talk) 15:20, 11 July 2013 (UTC) [reply]
I standby my comment on Eytthema. On second thought, though the Sierraparis account was created while the rodneye account was blocked.... hmm.... Sailsbystars (talk) 15:37, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe not... there's one interesting thing in common between Erythema and Sierraparis. Erythema added this tag to the article: [5]. Which was removed after a mere six hours [6]. Yet somehow this random account comes by a day later and says they noticed the "scales of justice" [7] i.e. the POV template and that's how they came to the article. Either there's off-wiki coordination, or there's sockpuppetry. Checkuser can tell us which. Sailsbystars (talk) 15:47, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Clerk note: Moved into WP: space per request as it seems to be a good faith attempt to report socks. I would note that the IP should provide a couple of diffs showing similarities between the socks and the master for CU to be considered. Haven't reviewed evidence due to lack of time. Dennis Brown |  | WER 10:56, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Before any action can be taken on this case - let alone CheckUser - diffs are going to need to be presented. One person's word against another is not enough. WilliamH (talk) 15:24, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • All are Red X Unrelated, but:
  • One user has a second account that does not appear to be breaching the sockpuppet policy.
  • Ryanspir has quite a few socks that I'm going to block now, and is most likely using several proxies that I can't track down all his accounts. -- DQ (ʞlɐʇ) 02:56, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Closing as there is no evidence of sockpuppetry. Any other problems can be brought up at the appropriate locations. Someguy1221 (talk) 09:57, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets

This is a self-declared "brother of InLoveNoi", see the argument made on Erythema's User Talk page here. InLoveNoi was established as a sock of Ryanspir. It's pretty obvious from the argumentation at Erythema's User Talk page that the content placed there by BrotherNoi is controlled by Ryanspir, and it's puppetry, whether it's meat (unlikely) or just another sock. The same arguments are being made about the same subjects. Also, it should be noted that InLoveNoi has posted another unblock request, based on a technicality - if you look at InLoveNoi's User Talk page, be sure to review the edit history to see the content that was removed. The reviewing admin Anthony Bradbury refused to handle it, so it's still open, but I think it's clear by now that the individual operating these accounts is WP:NOTHERE (specifically "Dishonest and gaming behaviors").
