Suspected sockpuppets


This user is continuously using these accounts to edit various South Korean pop group articles. It would often add useless positions to the members that are pointless with no reliable sources(WP:FORUM). I have checked all their contributions and they are simply doing the same on a lot of articles. Adding the same kind of content to the Group/Member positions. They've also been warned by the several other users about their vandalism before but they do not seem to respond or listen to the warnings so I suspect that they are sock puppet accounts. Seems like the user is using both accounts to make sure that his edits stay on Wikipedia. I am still not sure about Reborn j96 but that account seems to be exibiting a similar behaviour of re-adding unsourced information regarding group position on the members section of the article.Bleubeatle (talk) 02:05, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Looking at a) those diffs b) in light of the specific area of editing and c) the fact that the contributions support rotation usage, I very much suspected there is more than meets the eye with this, and I checked Ryanjay1996. (Note: I've posted this already on the archive posts but I did not get any replies so I posted them here)

He has created another new account. A spotted the 1st account a few weeks ago and reverted its edits. Afterwards it displayed no more activity until now. Its once again visiting every single band/group articles and invading the member's section by adding its own opinion of the bands and group positions (see WP:Fancruft). Its using a different style of editing now and just completely deleting the previous format for most articles such as the member's table. Instead its listing their names and positions in bullet points.

I also discovered a 2nd account today. Its trying to add a new message to prevent it from detected and suspected of IP sock editing.

Reply to Dennis: I doubt this is an attempt at cleanstart. It is rather an attempt to avoid WP:SCRUTINY because the master has a well-known and disruptive record in those articles. Coming back with a new name, (although even this is debatable), and engaging in the same type of edit-warring that got them blocked in the first place cannot be viewed as cleanstart. Also I disagree with your point that somehow the scrutiny argument is weaker because of the 200+ day-period delay in edits between sock and master, on the basis that your argument does not account for the IP-socks which plague these articles and perhaps other sleeper accounts not yet accounted for. I apologise for not providing the diffs but I also thought that given the obvious similarities I didn't have to provide any diffs. :) Sorry about that.   • Well, this is confusing... I dug through the history of C-Clown, and the member positions originally added by the author of the article [3] matches that those added by Wind25 [4], so I'm starting to wonder if those two are related, even though that wouldn't directly breach the sockpuppetry policy. Or it could be worse, and it could just another K-pop fan making unhelpful edits that plague these kinds of articles.     Not exactly.  CheckUser is not magic pixie dust and there are a dozen ways to sock where CU can't link you (that I won't get explain here). This sock is from the "Lim" series of Ryanjay socks cf. Dannydanylim and Quanlim220. WP:DUCK, in the way it is currently written, does not begin to describe what is happening here and has to be rewritten. This is car assembly-line type of duck production with similar model names. This case is the mother of all ducks.

It took some time for this sock to be detected but he is one of the loudest ducks in recent memory. All the hallmarks of the stereotypical Ryanjay1996 socks are here: K-pop, R&B, position warring, genre warring you name it, he's done it.  Sounds like a duck quacking into a megaphone to me.
