Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

The day after Honduras200010 was blocked, the Lasolitudineitaly account was created on Spanish Wikipedia, where Honduras200010 was also active. Shortly after, they continued their May-June edit-war here in Honduras:

  • Blanking sections about poverty and income inequality:
  • Copy-pasting large amounts of content from other Wikipedia articles without attribution, a couple of specific examples:
  • Some diffs of the overall large changes made in multiple edits, including changing many images. All added text is copied from various other articles:
    • Honduras200010: [10] (and repeatedly restoring when reverted: [11], [12], etc.) - there were more edits in June but most have been rev-deleted because of copyright.
    • Lasolitudineitaly: [13] and others.

The IPs in the range 190.92.62.192/26 have not edited the Honduras article in English because it requires autoconfirmed status, but they have edited es:Honduras, and share several other habits with both accounts, and with earlier ranges including 190.92.28.64/26, 190.92.33.0/26, and others going back several years:

There are several other indicators, if more is needed. -- IamNotU (talk) 01:41, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adding more evidence about the IPs, since it seems it wasn't clear enough to the clerk?

The edit summary listed above from the IP, on 10 July in La Esperanza, Honduras:

[27] paragraph for climate in Honduras , and box of climate , mape and pick , reference : https://www.climatestotravel.com/climate/honduras

duplicates the exact same edit summary of the master, from 23:12, 17 June 2020, in Honduras. That edit was redacted the next day, and it seems highly unlikely that an unconnected editor would copy the edit summary of a redacted edit from three weeks earlier in a different article.

The timeline/compare tools don't seem to work with an IP ranges, so I'll do this manually: One of the IP range's most frequent activities is adding copyright-violating pictures to Tegucigalpa and, especially, attempting to change the "skyline" image in the infobox, often to a self-made single-image collage. For example in April: [28] / [29], [30] / [31], [32], and earlier. On 20 May, Honduras200010 also added a copyright-violating "skyline" pic: [33] / [34], and again 10 June: [35] / [36], then the IP on 12 June: [37] and 16 June: [38]. On 5 August, Lasolitudineitaly arrived with yet another skyline photo: [39], tweaked by the IP: [40], then deleted as a copyvio: [41]. Another the next day: [42] / [43], IP: [44] / [45]. On 12 August, the IP: [46], then 18 minutes later Lasolitudineitaly: [47] / [48], then the next day the IP again: [49].

In List of countries by Human Development Index, falsely swapping Honduras with other country names in the table without changing the corresponding data, and undoing reverts: Honduras200010: [50], [51], IP range: [52], [53], [54], [55], etc.

In Köppen climate classification, repeating the same edits: IP in April: [56], Honduras200010 in May: [57], IP again in August: [58]

There's still more, if needed... --IamNotU (talk) 03:14, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Clerk note: Closing with no action taken. Whatever else may be going on here, the IP range appears to be long-term static, and began editing on these topics in early April, 6-7 weeks before Honduras200010's first edit on enwiki. Given that, it's hard to say the IPs are socking or even block evading. If there are disruptive edits coming from this IP range, maybe semi-protection of specific articles would be a better tool, but I don't think we can pin a sock label on this. -- RoySmith (talk) 23:08, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
RoySmith, sorry, and I know that I shouldn't comment on a closed case, but this just can't be right. The block applies to the person editing. I've given strong behavioral evidence that the IPs are the same person as behind the accounts, and I can give more. If it's true, any logged-out editing they've done or will do since 18 June is block evasion. They haven't edited for a few days, so it's up to you if you don't want to block the range unless they sock again. But I don't understand how you come to the conclusion that it's not sockpuppetry. --IamNotU (talk) 02:10, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
PS, it should also be noted here that Lasolitudineitaly was blocked as a sock on this behavioral evidence, by Ad Orientem... --IamNotU (talk) 02:38, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You may be right. I've reopened this so somebody else can take a look. -- RoySmith (talk) 02:57, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks... I added some more evidence about the IP range, in case it helps. I guess we'll see if they come back or not. --IamNotU (talk) 03:15, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Likely, no further, no need for a rangeblock at this time. ST47 (talk) 02:41, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Making a new report as the above is already kind of long... Similar username to now-blocked sock Lasolitudineitaly (talk · contribs). Account was created 11 minutes after Lasolitudineitaly was blocked. Same behavior as the master and long-term IPs in the range 190.92.62.192/26 reported above, of disruptively swapping country names in List of countries by Human Development Index, compare: [59], [60], [61]. Made a request to remove the page protection from Honduras: [62], where the blocked accounts were edit-warring, two minutes after the same request by an IP in the range: [63].

It would be good if someone could indef Noncheitaly, and also block the IP range for an appropriate time and close the other report. Noncheitaly, Lasolitudineitaly, and the IP range are also currently editing disruptively in Spanish Wikipedia, in a similar set of articles, not sure if anything is to be done about that... -- IamNotU (talk) 01:56, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

_______________

As I expected, and as noted by others, as soon as Noncheitaly got autoconfirmed, they started the same disruption and edit-warring again in Honduras, making massive changes to text and images, blanking the "poverty" section, etc., e.g. when doing it the third time:

  • [64] my goal is not to make other wikipedia writers angry, but to improve the image of this country

(They've also recently made more logged-out unsourced/disruptive edits to Tegucigalpa from 190.92.62.192/26). --IamNotU (talk) 13:25, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

_______________

Besides daily continuing the edit war in Honduras, Noncheitaly has created the article Comayagua International Airport, with the same content as this edit by sock Lasolitudineitaly, where they blanked and replaced the content of Soto Cano Air Base: [65]. The content is an unattributed Google Translate copypaste of es:Aeropuerto Internacional de Comayagua. I requested a G5 speedy delete. Mdaniels5757, you added a CU request, do you think we really need that? The behavior is extremely obvious, and there's a fair amount of disruption. It seems to be taking a long time for someone to deal with this report... --IamNotU (talk) 00:03, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • In addition, this account began editing Honduras within an hour of reaching the number of edits (10) needed to become autoconfirmed, just as Lasolitudineitalia did (within two minutes), so that was clearly the goal. (Actually, Lasolitudineitalia had made only 9 edits. What was up with that? Was the tenth edit the creation of a page that was later deleted?) Largoplazo (talk) 01:10, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Braziliann1996 is a sleeper, not sure why it wasn't found by ST47 yesterday? It was created 21 June (two days after sock Lasolitudineitaly) but no edits until today. Made ten edits, then jumped right into the same edit warring in Honduras: [66].

The IP range is active again since yesterday. See the previous two reports for evidence. All the edits in this range, going back to April, are clearly theirs. Similar edits about climate classifications, interests in Tegucigalpa and Berlin, and similar "the reference is the page" edit summaries, as in previous reports; see their edit histories for more of the same.

IP edit reinstated three minutes later:

More posting and changing of photos, more activity in the same articles (mostly Honduras, plus Berlin), more fixation on Köppen climate zones. Largoplazo (talk) 13:03, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Cabayi: The level of formal detail you're asking for surprises me because, well, a "DUCK" response came swiftly in response to a similar report at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Honduras200010/Archive#07 September 2020. I figure investigators usually just run down the list of the editor's contributions, look at the diffs in the popups, and note that they match both the patterns claimed and the patterns previously reported for other sockpuppets that have led to positive findings. But, anyway:

  • Obsession with climate and, in particular, Köppen climate classifications:
  • Adding and, in particular, changing existing images:
  • The articles selected for editing:

Largoplazo (talk) 14:49, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Also, there's a naming match: Italian singer Laura Pausini has sung both "Se fue", which includes the lyrics "Su sonrisa de fabula se fue", and "La solitudine". Besides this name, "Susonrisadefabula", an earlier confirmed sockpuppet was Lasolitudineitaly. Largoplazo (talk) 14:56, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Another Laura Pausini song, "Non C'è", corresponds to the account name Noncheitaly. Largoplazo (talk) 15:38, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Cabayi: Whaaaaa??? Is it coincidence that the very latest edit at Laura Pausini, made yesterday, was by you? (I'd never head of Pausini, and I only even wound up looking into her because it occurred to me that the account name currently at hand sounded like they might be from somewhere, and I looked them up out of curiosity. Just now I thought to look at the article on her here—curious to see whether any of these socks had edited there—and was surprised by the synchronicity of your contribution to it.) • Largoplazo,  Additional information needed. In order to facilitate and expedite your request, please provide diffs to support your case. Please give two or more diffs meeting the following format:
  1. At least one diff is from the sockmaster (or an account already blocked as a confirmed sockpuppet of the sockmaster), showing the behaviour characteristic of the sockmaster.
  2. At least one diff per suspected sockpuppet, showing the suspected sockpuppet emulating the behaviour of the sockmaster given in the first diff.
  3. In situations where it is not immediately obvious from the diffs what the characteristic behaviour is, a short explanation must be provided. Around one sentence is enough for this. Cabayi (talk) 13:59, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Largoplazo, some coincidence! We'll just have to hope that Laura Pausini is just so popular that the overlap between this SPI and Pcgmsrich is coincidental. There doesn't appear to be any other overlap between the two cases.
Sometimes pointing to the history is enough, especially if the SPI clerk is familiar with the case. I'm not, and pairing up the edit histories of 1 new sock, 1 master, and several previous socks to find an overlap is a waste of time if you've already spotted that overlap.

The latest identity with the name of a country in its account name, to be particularly interested in geographical, and especially Latin American geographical, and even more especially Honduran topics (including an edit[87] on one article in common with other puppets, Valle de Ángeles, in which they reversed a reversion of another puppet's edit), in adding[88] and especially replacing[89] images, and in Köppen climate classifications.[90][91] Largoplazo (talk) 03:30, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I added Panamax1, created a couple of hours before Panamax2, making the same kind of image edits in San Pedro Sula - master: [92], sock: [93]. Then 20 minutes later, wireless IP 186.2.146.95 tries (and fails) to correct the caption: [94], making the same spelling mistake as the master did. There have been a few other IPs in the 186.2.146.0/24 range that appear to be theirs, e.g. making incomprehensible protected edit requests in Honduras: [95] and Tegucigalpa: [96], restoring the same edit as Panamax2 and several older socks in Valle de Ángeles: [97] ([98], [99], [100], [101]) etc. The IP changes quickly and a range block is probably doubtful due to other editors in the range, I'm just reporting the evidence for the record.

Editing also continues from broadband IP range 190.92.62.192/26 (see previous reports), e.g. restoring the same edit in Valle de Ángeles: [102]. In San Pedro Sula, adding another image a few hours after the above: [103], as well as changes to climate with typical edit summary: [104], repeatedly restoring sock Paris199900's edit: [105], [106], adding unattributed copypastes of Google translations e.g. from es:San Pedro Sula#Historia: [107], etc. Also making the same spelling mistake here: [108]. In this case it looks to me like pretty much all of the edits in the range this year are theirs, certainly in the past month. --IamNotU (talk) 16:13, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The hallmark: removing of material from Honduras seen by the master and puppets as unfair, particularly this removal of the entire section on crime (which C.Fred reverted) and removal of the heading "Poverty". Also, the usual focuses on the climate (as also here at La Esperanza, Honduras) and shuffling around images. • Focus on Latin America.
  • One typical behavior: insertion of a graphic as here, in this case at Mérida, Mérida, about Mérida, Venezuela. One of the sockpuppet accounts was Meridavenezuela.
  • Another typical behavior: focus on climate, with this edit and this edit. The first edit is to Caracas, also in Venezuela. The second is to Monterrey; one of the socks was Monterreymx.
  • The first two edits under this account are about someone from Venezuela (see above) and someone from Honduras (see the master's user name).
  • This account's name has the same general flavor of many of the others. Largoplazo (talk) 02:58, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Follow-up: The user has gone full bore with the characteristic Köppen climate classifications and left an (empty) edit request on the talk page of one of the articles that's been protected because of their edits, Honduras. Largoplazo (talk) 04:56, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • At least five of the pages edited by this account so far were previously edited by the master or another confirmed sock. Largoplazo (talk) 11:28, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • The above reporting was about Nightinmerida. Adding 190.92.62.215, who just made edits of the same sort to three pages already hit by Nightinmerida. The edit to Talk:Honduras was yet another protected page edit request, followed by one by Tanenamorados, reported by Chipmunkdavis below. Edits on 3 September 2020 from the same IP were made to Tegucigalpa, also targets of the master and several sockpuppets of the master (including Meridavenezuela), and Theobroma cacao, also a target of sockpuppet Braziliann1996. Largoplazo (talk) 07:58, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I received an email from Spanish Wikipedia informing me that somebody at this very IP address requested "un recordatorio de los datos de tu cuenta", and providing me with a temporary password for that purpose. (I didn't follow up, of course.) Is there an avenue for dealing with this sort of attack by this user? Largoplazo (talk) 08:42, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • So I went looking on Spanish Wikipedia, and all this is playing out there as well. In particular, all Nightinmerida's edits there have been reverted. There should be global locks on all these accounts. Largoplazo (talk) 09:02, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

IP address came alive and immediately targeted two articles common to earlier socks with the two characteristic types of edit: climate and photos.

Can we get a range block, maybe six months, on 190.92.62.128/25 or maybe 190.92.62.192/26? It looks like all edits from that range in the past 12 months have been of the same nature. While there was a gap from the beginning of October until the end of March, we've now had a solid month of activity from them, in addition to the registered sock accounts that were just blocked. Among these IPs and the registered account over the last few days, it's the usual pattern of Honduras, Venezuela, weather (focus on Köppen classifications), and inserting or changing images. The account name reprises previous use of names of women in the entertainment field (Vilmapalmabuenosaires) and mentions of Venezuela (most recently Kassandrarctv.ven). Finally, the taunt in the edit summary here seems to confirm that this is the person with whom I have a history in regard to these edits. Largoplazo (talk) 04:07, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In addition: the one edit made so far by Lolysanchezven is to the article Coraima Torres, about an actress whose first leading role was in the RCTV telenovela Kassandra—which matches the previous account name Kassandrarctv.ven, under which edits were also made to that article. Previously, I've blocked 190.92.62.192/26, but now they've moved around and I'm really hesitant to block a /19 without additional confirmation. Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

And again. It's always like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. In this case, the IP user made unhelpful edits to two articles involving Washingtons, Washington (state) and Lincoln Memorial (in Washington, D.C.), in addition to two characteristic weather-related edits to Tegucigalpa, the old pattern of articles on topics radiating from cities in Honduras outward. Then the Washingtondccityy user appears, adding unhelpful words to a few articles in addition to edits of the usual two types (weather and images) to articles previously edited by previous socks.

I looked at Special:Contributions/186.2.146.0/25. All edits during the past year were by this person, with the possible exception of some edits that were vandalism anyway in July 2020. So there's another range I'd suggest blocking, following up on the one from a few days ago. Maybe even the /24 but that's less clear-cut. Largoplazo (talk) 22:23, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

In an earlier episode, User:RoySmith wrote, "I've blocked 186.2.146.0/24 for a year. Looking through the history, /22 might make sense, but I'll go with the smaller range for now." Time to reconsider the /22, as the first IP above made two characteristic edits at Tegucigalpa today (images), following one by the second IP on 11 June (an image). Except for two edits[156][157] that were improper anyway, all edits shown for Special:Contributions/186.2.144.0/22 since 9 September 2020 were indisputably by this user based on pages edited and the nature of the edits. Largoplazo (talk) 02:44, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Largoplazo, I tend to think of H2k as concentrating on climate classifications. I'm not convinced that these edits fit that pattern. It's not surprising that an IP that geolocates to Honduras is editing Honduras-related topics. Could you point out some more specific diffs of known H2k socks that overlap with these IP edits? -- RoySmith (talk) 14:25, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
RoySmith, H2k has dual focuses: climate and photos (adding and replacing). Under this range, for climate, we have [158][159][160][161][162][163][164][165][166][167][168][169][170][171][172][173]. These cover the period from 13 September through 3 June, and come from both 144s and 146s. Most of the remaining edits from this range since September have been of the image variety. Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, Intibucá, and La Esperanza in Honduras are all long-time favorites of H2k socks, as is Caracas, which has also figured in some of the sock account names. There may be other Hondurans editing, and some of them may edit Honduras-related articles in particular, but doesn't it seem we have here a clear intersection of specific articles chosen and specific edit focuses? Largoplazo (talk) 22:52, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Evidence:

  • The user name is a song lyric, "Desesperado casi hecho leño", similar to other sock names "Lasolitudineitaly", after Laura Pausini's song "La solitudine", and "Susonrisadefabula", after "Su sonrisa de fabula" in "Se fue", also by Laura Pausini.
  • An edit to—such a coincidence!—Laura Pausini.
  • An edit to Jenk Oz, with five recent edits by sock Kassandrarctv.ven including, for example, [174] and [175].
  • Yet another semi-protected edit request at Talk:Honduras, asking for photos to be added to the usual sections, "Economy, Climate , Geography, Culture". Adding and replacing images is one of this user's most common activities.

All we need to wrap things up are some climate-related edits, surprisingly missing so far (other than the inclusion of "Climate" in the edit request mentioned just above).

To start with, there's the name Japan1999, evoking earlier socks Argentinian1999, Honduras1999, Paris199900, and Braziliann1996

There's the usual deep concern for Köppen climate classifications and Honduras, with edits to old haunts

  • Köppen climate classification (also edited by Kassandrarctv.ven and by IPs in the now-blocked 190.92.32.0/19 and 190.92.62.192/26 blocks), now with the addition of an edit to Wladimir Köppen
  • Siguatepeque (similar edits by Kassandrarctv.ven, Latinamericancities, Braziliann1996, and Noncheitaly)
  • Tropical savanna climate (also edited by blocked IP 190.92.62.207), with an edit that involves Tegucigalpa, keeping with the Honduras theme

The edits to Köppen climate classification include edits involving Tegucigalpa and Siguatepeque as well as La Esperanza, Honduras (also a target of Washingtondccityy, Vilmapalmabuenosaires, Coreadelsurhoy, and Panamax2).

Finally, most of this user's edits prior to the edits to Köppen climate classification have been similar to a few made by other socks, involving the incorrect or unnecessary addition or replacement of articles or punctuation marks (especially adding incorrect commas and replacing commas incorrectly with semicolons, a newer trait that I'll add to my identification repertoire). Similar edits are

I've resisted the temptation till now as possibly premature, but after three new edits by User:Vouasim, I'm adding that user to this report, despite most of the edits involving South America and a non-characteristic interest in linking of the names of countries in infoboxes. Reasons:

  • edits to the combination of Caracas and Tegucigalpa
  • edits about climate (in which, strangely, the user keeps reverting their own changes)[186][187] and others
  • edits to images[188][189]
  • restoration[190] of an image to Tegucigalpa that was reverted after it was added a week earlier by previous sockpuppet Descubriasintiniaparaserfelix[191]]

Can we talk about Special:Contributions/190.92.19.0/24 again? The last time was 15 October. Seven weeks later, there's a trove of climate-related edits from this block, especially focused on Honduras but also elsewhere, including the replacement of one city in Bangladesh in Humid subtropical climate with the city of Siguatepeque in Honduras.

There are a couple of edits of other types from single-edit IPs in this range, but those were reverted as well. One was from .103 and one was from .155, so I guess making it a /25 block lets one of those off the hook. I'll leave the remaining math to another. Multiple reasons of the usual types:

  1. User name is the name of a woman in the entertainment field. See the 25 May 2021 entry in the archive for further discussion of this, with examples.
  2. Focus on Honduras, (Manuel Zelaya, First Ladies and Gentlemen of Honduras, new article El Socorro, Comayagua); spreading out as typical to Venezuela and Brazil, before diverging into the rest of the world.
  3. Edit to Coraima Torres, previously the target of at least two other socks (again, see the 25 May 2021 entry).
  4. Focus on images.
  5. Focus on climate, particularly self-reversion at Köppen climate classification (which sock Vouasim also did there once), which has been edited by a number of Honduras200010 socks. Largoplazo (talk) 04:32, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Usual patterns from a 190.92.*.* address: Honduras, climate, inserting images (in one case, in a template's nickname field), making bad edits (a bunch of them had been reverted already when I came upon this IP's contributions). Largoplazo (talk) 19:22, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know, but their self-reversions remind me of a British sockmaster known as Evlekis, even though they're completely unrelated. Magnatyrannus (talk | contribs) 04:32, 2 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

It's taken me much longer than usual to decide this has to be a sockpuppet because it's taken longer for a couple of the usual telltale factors to kick in and because the user has been unusually non-prolific under this acccount, but here goes:

  • Focus on Honduras[213][214] as well as new draft Draft:Rolando Argueta, and then diversifying into other Latin American countries before their interesting diversifies more thinly into other places.
  • Focus on climate, especially at Köppen climate classification, where the user's edits over a period of months have been almost consistently reverted by User:G. Capo and User:Scheridon on substantive grounds
  • Infobox pictures for places in Honduras[215]
  • The name Politicsandmorebiography calls to mind other run-on names like Juntadirecticadeldrchirinos and Desesperadocasihecholeño and Latinamericancities.

Finally, the account was registered just three days after the next most recent sockpuppet, Gwiztiktok, was blocked, and on the same day that an IP in the usual range, 190.92.42.2, edited the Köppen article.[216] Largoplazo (talk) 23:56, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Honduras weather person again. Multiple edits to Köppen climate classification as usual, particularly about one of their usual focuses, La Esperanza, Honduras; and an edit to the article about the Honduran locality Choluteca, Choluteca. Largoplazo (talk) 20:16, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New account, picked right up where the IP user still listed here as of this writing left off, with the now age-old pursuit of trying to get La Esperanza, Honduras, listed at Köppen climate classification (compare [217] and [218]), and with the sort of run-on account name common to sock accounts created by this user. Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Time for a renewed block, this time not only on 186.2.144.0/22 but, based on a more extended range of abusive IP addresses, 186.2.144.0/20, as this user, in addition to the latest named account, Miniñaalemanade14, has been making edits to the usual Köppen climate classification, with focuses on La Esperanza and Intibucá, at IP addresses that vary throughout that range. Also,

Regarding the IP addresses, there may be edits in the past year that were by other people (though many of those have been unconstructive or even vandalism as well), so I realize there may be concern about imposing a range-wide block. There's been reasonable hesitation before, but, even so, a three-month block was imposed on the 22 in January 2021. This was followed by a one-year block on 186.2.146.0/24 in June 2021 that was directly thereafter expanded to the /22, ending in June 2022. Well, the 186.2s picked up again the very next month, July 2022, and have continued ever since. If we can't get a block, hopefully much longer, this time, I'll at least have to petition for semi-protection at Köppen climate classification, but that would also be an unhappy situation.

Regarding the named account, it's another song-and-dance run-on-phrase typical of this user: "My German girl of 14". Largoplazo (talk) 21:20, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

With only five edits, this user already triggered my sensors two edits ago, with the Siguatepeque climate edit, and now there are two Venezuela climate zone edits, with Venezuela being perhaps #2 of the master's and other socks' targets after Honduras. So, can we run a checkuser? Largoplazo (talk) 22:42, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Similar edits to those of the master and all the socks including the IPs. In recent months they've been coming from a number of IPs spread out in the range 186.2.144.0/20. The 186.2.144.0/22 range has been blocked before, for six months at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Honduras200010/Archive#08 January 2021 and then, six months later, for a year at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Honduras200010/Archive#15 June 2021). I nominated this range again two months ago, Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Honduras200010/Archive#30 April 2023, along with one named account, but Courcelles found, eight days later, that "the IPs are all at least a little stale as long as this has sat." But, come on: this started up in July 2022 within a couple of weeks of the end of the previous one-year-block and it's persisted ever since.

There might be just enough other edits not following the abuser's pattern and that haven't been reverted for other reasons to prevent a range block of the /20, or a long one. But most of them are clearly from the same user: climate, insisting on changing climate classifications, covering a range of locations centered on Honduras and Venezuela.

Also, I haven't mentioned this before, I don't think, but many edit summaries are in the same vein, with arguments and sources in the summary but no source in the article, which the sock has adopted over the years. Compare such edit summaries as [219] with summaries by Braziliann1996[220], Paulistafan[221], Gwiztiktok[222], Politicsbiographyandmore[223], IsabelCarlotaPalatinado[224], etc. Largoplazo (talk) 01:40, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Patterns include edits on climate (revertable in their own right), giving sources in edit summaries but not adding them to articles, secondary focus on Venezuela. A report from April 2023 on the nearby IP 168.228.194.127 led to the conclusion by User:Spicy that "The range is now blocked" but Spice didn't say which range, and I'm not finding that there's been a block on 168.228.194.0/24. However, shows a long series of 28-day blocks by ST47ProxyBot for both 162.228.194.127 and 168.228.194.123. Can we block the /24 for a year, as has been resorted to recently for 186.2.144.0/20 and 190.92.?.? (I'm not sure which subrange is currently blocked it isn't clear from the SPI archive)? Combination of the favorite topic of climate at two of this user's common haunts, Tegucigalpa and Cobán, both of them frequented by many of the user's accounts and IPs, and the style of giving assertions and sources in the edit summaries. Largoplazo (talk) 18:14, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Within a day of the end of a three-month block on 168.228.194.0/24, this IP started in on Oceanic climate with the characteristic style of edit summary, with the source embedded in it rather than putting it in the article. Compare edit summaries, for example, for [225], [226] with those from [227], [228], [229] from earlier this year.

A one-year block on the range this time? And maybe extend the blocks on all the other ranges that have outstanding blocks on account of this user? Largoplazo (talk) 01:54, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's been a while since this user found a way around all the IP range blocks, but: they went right for Siguatepeque, one of the traditional stomping grounds, with both an image file and climate-related edits attributed to sources spelled out in the edit summary rather than cited in the article. Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Several IP ranges used by this editor have been blocked for some time, including 168.228.194.0/24[230][231], but that must be over because the user has made some recent edits from there, as well as from 181.115.59.67[232]. With these IPs now available, the editor (who must be attempting to edit around the numerous existing blocks daily, because they pop up again as soon as it becomes possible) has created Birthdaykatyperry.

It's a WP:DUCK, given the account name style (run-on with no capital letters, the name of a singing star), the immediate jump to edit climate information at Siguatepeque and monkey with image files there[233], and the citations placed in the edit summaries instead of in the articles[234]. See the archive and LTA page for background.

Would it be acceptable to extend the existing blocks on all IP ranges that are now blocked on account of this user?Largoplazo (talk) 16:44, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Check declined by a checkuser, we don't connect IPs to accounts, and it seems that everything needed for this is public info anyway. Sock indeffed, and from history it looks like the range is both narrower than indicated and not ever used by anyone else so I've hardblocked what I think it is for 3 years.
