Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/2011 July 1

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hoping for feedback on this article and the possible removal of the "new article" template. An article on this same subject was deleted in 2007 (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Robert E. Odlum). It is my hope that the level of detail of my article will enable it to be retained, although I will understand if it is deleted. Also, Odlum was the brother of the famous reformer Charlotte Odlum Smith, on whom an article did not yet exist in 2007 because the biography of her by Autumn Stanley had not yet been published.

Well "famous" is of course in the eye of the beholder. That is a matter of opinion and of course very dependent on time and group of readers one is addressing, Doubt it is true of random wikipedia readers. Being related to someone notable does not guarantee notability. A few other minor nits, but if there was some notability of this person before he jumped off the bridge, it has a better chance to stick around this time. I created this article before a month which is yet to be reviewed.

Just wanted to see if this was the right sort of thing just to get an entry started.

I'm sorry to be requesting feedback on this article again (previously requested at Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/2011 June 6), but I think the subject is very important and would like the new article template to be removed. I also would appreciate it if the portrait photo (Berry Cannon SEALAB.jpg) could be replaced with a lower-resolution version, which I don't know how to do. The image is tagged as copyrighted (non-free) and fair use, but I feel a little guilty about its high resolution (and indeed used it to replace another image with even higher resolution).

I provided links to an article but it was blacklisted for spam, I would like to get the local article removed from the blacklist, but until then, I had to remove the link, so it is just text mentioned in references.

Jas891 (talk) 13:17, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, while I try to avoid deleting articles I see in this forum, I had already deleted it before seeing it here. It isn't close to meeting the Notability guideline, not even the easier hurdle of importance, even if we assume that a blacklisted site can be added.--SPhilbrickT 22:08, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[Perseverance (band)]] requires embedded links to the White Noise Productions, Adamus Exul and Australian Black Metal pages, as well as perhaps a grammar check. I am very surprised there is not already an article on this band here?[edit]

This page may require embedded links to Adamus Exul's Wiki Page, as well as that of White Noise Productions and Australian Black Metal, which it definitely belongs as a part of given the status of the band and the notoriety of the frontman. Please correct as required for upload.

Hi there! I tried for a distinctive way of chronicling this man's fascinating life: realize it's unusual by Wikipedia's standards but hope that's not in & of itself grounds for disapproval? Sources are well checked ...

Thanks

Nice start.
My initial impression is that there's too much detail about the Royal Group. You are better off working to make your userspace draft on that company into a proper article, and leaving the discussion of the company in the biography to more of a summary. However, I note a possible COI (with me, not you) so I may not be able to say much more on this issue.
I didn't check closely into the copyright status of the image used, but it looks like you might have to follow up on that. Let me know if you don't know what this means.--SPhilbrickT 22:16, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can an admin user look at this page and tell me what tags they would put on it if it was made live. What issues does it have?

M.watterson2 (talk) 13:50, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

First, I'll note that anyone can add tags to an article, not just admins.
It's a decent start, but very weak on sourcing. The first reference simply confirms the company exists, and the next two are extremely brief write ups acknowledging that they have won a couple bids. That's pretty thin, and frankly, I'd be surprised if it survived a deletion request if there's nothing else. They've been around for 150 plus years, surely they've worked on something notable in that time?
Kudos for adding references, and forming them correctly, that's often one of the challenges for new editors.--SPhilbrickT 22:24, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm really new to this...done Wiki edits before but this is my first actual page..Please advise! Thanks!

Hello,

Completely new to the world of Wikipedia. Want to make sure that the article about chocolate gourmet is sufficient - in regards to length, content, notability etc. I've read lots of the help info and links on the 'how to' but just want to make sure none of the rules are being broken.

Thanks in advance to responders/contributors to this inquiry.

Chocolate gourmet (talk) 14:15, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A couple comments:
  • Thanks for starting in user space
  • Your title shouldn't have "learn Wiki" in it, but let's not worry about that. If it reaches the point that it can be moved to main space, it can be moved form here easily enough.
  • Your user name is a bit of a problem. See Username Policy. I suggest you simply abandon this name, create another one that doesn't sound like it is affiliated with the company. If you let me know the new name, I'll move this draft to the new location.
  • You've deliberately chosen lower case spelling for "chocolate gourmet" in the body - is this because that's the preferred spelling of the company? Wikipedia has rules about capitalization, which do not always match what the company does. Frankly I don't recall them, so I'll note that they are hidden in the Manual of Style somewhere. If you do not find them. let me know and I'll search for them.
  • Why is "chubby wubby" in bold, while others are not?
  • The critical praise section reads like a movie review, which is definitely not a good thing. It should be pared back, although I realize this will seriously reduce the length.
  • Glad to see references, but see Referencing for beginners to see how to form them correctly.
  • I note one of the refs is a blog, which is generally not allowed, and probably not in this case.--SPhilbrickT 23:01, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is a new unreviewed article. I am the creator of this page and I am requesting that it be reviewed so that the template at the top can be removed. Thank you very much for your assistance.
