Copperchair[edit]

Code letter: B (banned user; linked in previous request for this user)

Evidence: Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Copperchair (7th). Copperchair has quite a history, and if this is confirmed, he should be blocked indefinitely. Shalom (HelloPeace) 03:37, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copperchair[edit]

Looks like another possible Copperchair sock. Vinxx was created on September 4, a couple of weeks after the previous round of blocks, and 190.10.0.88 (a previously blocked Copperchair IP) made Copperchair-like edits on September 11. Looks like his IP changed again (it appears to be semi-dynamic) and he was able to register a new account. Vinxx has been making controversial edits to War on Terror articles that are similar to those that previous socks made. He has been removing participants from various conflicts which he doesn't feel count as the War on Terror. He could just be a POV pusher, not a Copperchair sock, but the similarity of edits made me want to file a report. If Vinxx turns out to be a Copperchair sock, I would be grateful if a check could be made for "sleeper" accounts as well. TomTheHand 14:51, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I apologize for the false alarm. TomTheHand 15:13, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copperchair[edit]

Messages left on my talk page:

User:Parlahueso isa sock puppet of copperchair The same reverts at Battle_of_Chora as User:Casavette. —The preceding signed but undated comment was added at 09:08, August 22, 2007 (UTC).

Yeah, I'll second that. Altough he is apparently a new user, Parlahueso has jumped straight into an edit war on the Battle of Chora article, reverting to a past version by Casavette.
See his reverts:[1], [2], [3] and that of Casavette: [4]. There's also an IP 190.10.0.18, stragely similar to 190.10.0.111, who has made the same kind of reverts: [5], [6]. Can you block them out of hand or should someone file a new request for checkuser? Regards. Raoulduke47 11:39, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can confirm that he's making reverts identical to previous Copperchair socks, and the IP address has made other edits identical to Copperchair's previous ones. I'm blocking both the user name and the IP, but I'm posting this RFCU to root out sleepers. Thanks for your help. TomTheHand 13:21, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 IP blocked already; no sleepers found. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 14:14, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much! TomTheHand 14:28, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copperchair[edit]

Casavette (talk · contribs) seems to be a new sockpuppet of Copperchair. He has exactly the same editing pattern as user:Osquillar, and other sockpuppets of his. Check his contribs: [7] and those of Osquillar: [8]. He makes exactly the same kind of edits: body counts, and mutiple minor edits to war on terrorism and War in Afghanistan (2001–present)-related articles. Raoulduke47 12:15, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 Confirmed. These accounts too:

  1. Talavera1 (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki)
  2. Lucem Aspicio (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki)

--Mackensen (talk) 19:24, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Mackensen, for performing the CheckUser, and thank you, Raoulduke47, for posting the request. I've blocked all three accounts. TomTheHand 19:29, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copperchair[edit]

This appears to be another Copperchair sock. Please compare to Copperchair's recent previous socks. Account was created on July 5, a few days after the previous batch were blocked. He's gone immediately to making similar edits:

  • War on Terrorism
    • 24bh3s removes participants who aren't in direct conflict with the U.S.: [13]
    • Rupert Horn did the same sort of thing: [14]

In general, he shares that same obsession with updating casualty counts. I'll post if I find any others, but it would also be appreciated if CheckUser could be used to nuke latent socks. The IP address has made two Copperchair-like edits (updating IMDB info on Star Wars pages), and is in the range that Copperchair appears to use, so I'm thinking about blocking it too. I think last time, when I blocked 201.192.97.22 (talk+ · tag · contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RBLs · proxy check · block user · block log · cross-wiki contribs · CheckUser (log)), I hit his office; I think the 190.10.0.* range is his home ISP. TomTheHand 18:13, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 Inconclusive. Voice-of-All 07:48, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Darn. I'm grateful for the help. I'll block anyway because the edit pattern is so similar. I think his previous two groups of socks were active from a newer IP block and now he's back at his original block, but I imagine his older accounts are too old to check. TomTheHand 17:11, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copperchair[edit]

Copperchair is a long-time sockpuppeteer who just keeps creating new accounts after the old ones are banned. Please compare this current sock to the previous ones listed below.

Levapan has only made four edits, but each one has been identical to edits made by the previous batch of socks. It appears that the IP blocks applied last time haven't done the job. I'm unwilling to block based on my suspicion from four edits, but I hope that a checkuser can clear it up.

I am concerned about Rupert Horn because of the similarity of his edits to those of other confirmed socks. Compare:

Essentially the same edit to Operation Hoover:

Same edit to Battle of Qala-i-Jangi:

Updating casualty counts on War in Afghanistan (2001–present):

Rupert Horn: [21]

Updating casualty counts on United States casualties of war:

[29]

Also, Copperchair seems to always have multiple socks going. In the last case jpgordon discovered two other socks. It would be great if someone could do the same here. I hope this is enough evidence, based on my past record of successfully identifying his socks. If there's need for more, please let me know. I may update this request if I dig up an additional sock on my own. TomTheHand 17:26, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I'd also like to point out that Rupert Horn was apparently covered by Chiricuto's autoblock. He requested that he be unblocked, and was unblocked by Yamla. To me, the similarity of edits, added onto the fact that he had the same IP address as a previous Copperchair sock, is enough evidence for me to block him right away. I would still appreciate a CheckUser to make sure and to find any other socks that he's currently operating. TomTheHand 19:01, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed. One and only one sleeper found and annihilated. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 00:59, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copperchair[edit]

Recent activity:

Previously banned accounts, perhaps useful for cross-check:

Copperchair is a long-time sockpuppeteer who just keeps creating new accounts after the old ones are banned. I wish there were a way to combat this. After the previous batch, a few months ago, I haven't been keeping an eye out for him, but I noticed a suspicious edit today that led me to several others. One account, Tiquicia, was created at the same time as the previously banned batch but I didn't catch it at that time. The other two are a little more recent. If there is any way to determine if he has any other accounts in operation at this time, it would be great to get that resolved. TomTheHand 18:12, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 Clerk note: For reference, Copperchair (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki). Copperchair is currently blocked until March 10, 2008. --ST47Talk 19:02, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copperchair[edit]

I apologize for requesting another RFCU right after the last one. I believe LaManoTom is another Copperchair sock, because of the account creation time, the similarity of his edits to the other socks, and the fact he's named himself after me ("La Mano" is "The Hand" in several Romance languages, and Copperchair's past IPs are all from Costa Rica). He hasn't made the disruptive edits to War on Terrorism articles that he's best known for yet, so this may be a puppet currently "laying low," but he's hit all of his favorite movie articles. The name thing is the biggest indicator for me. TomTheHand 19:22, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 Confirmed --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 05:06, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Esteban "Lex" Saborío[edit]

Esteban "Lex" Soborio's username is extremely similar to a previous sockpuppet of Copperchair, Esaborio (talk · contribs) and the have very similar edit pattern. Additionally, in this edit [30]], Esteban references TomTheHand (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) that has been actively monitoring Copperchair's sockpuppet creation and blocking them upon sighting. The reference is in response to this edit[31] where the user tells Esteban to not restart a resolved edit war. Esteban seems to be blaming TomTheHand for restarting the edit war following a block of sockpuppet Kronsteen (talk · contribs).

The IP address [32] added Esteban's name to a picture of Lex Luthor and has no reason to unless they are the same editor. Additionally, the IP address is in the range that Copperchair has been confirmed of using.

Due to Copperchair's propensity to have multiple socks running at the same time, if it's possible to make sure he doesn't have any other out there at this time, that'd be great.

Osaboramirez[edit]

  • Code letter: F

Osaboramirez's edit patterns are very similar to those of sock puppets of Copperchair, and the account creation time links up well. Please compare this latest account with the most recent sock puppets and IP addresses of Copperchair. I can provide more evidence if necessary, but it's extremely time consuming and somewhat stressful to do all of the comparisons, and I get the impression that I've provided way more than needed in past Copperchair checkusers. TomTheHand 20:34, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed. Osaboramirez = Warrior on Terrorism = 190.10.0.71. The others are too old to check. Essjay (Talk) 02:51, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warrior on Terrorism[edit]

The accounts below are too old for technical check. Thatcher131 15:30, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warrior on Terrorism looks like a sockpuppet of Copperchair, who was blocked for an extended period for violating his ArbCom ruling. He appears to be IP address 190.10.0.71. The things that makes me suspect this are:

  1. 190.10.0.71 clears his talk page three times [33] [34] [35] with the edit summary "Blanked the page", and Warrior does the same thing, on the same page, with the same edit summary, once [36].
  2. Warrior adds himself to Wikipedia:WikiProject Terrorism and counter-terrorism here: [37], then 192.10.0.71 removes him two minutes later [38].

I believe that they are sockpuppets of Copperchair because:

  1. 190.10.0.71's only edits, other than the ones above, are blanking pages which Esaborio (a Copperchair sock) created here and here, and one of Copperchair's favorite edits, removing the Cold War template from World War III here.
  2. Warrior's account was created four days after the previous two socks, Bad Night and Ossara, were blocked, and launched right into some pretty advanced stuff, including launching a Wikipedia:Requests for investigation. This does not appear to be new user behavior.
  3. Warrior shares Copperchair's interest in War on Terrorism articles and keeping casualty counts up to date.

I've listed all of Copperchair's past sockpuppets so that Warrior and 190.10.0.71 can be compared to them. They are all definite socks, but I am a little unsure about Warrior. He's getting better at evading detection and it bothers me a lot that there appears to be no way to keep him away permanently. TomTheHand 15:12, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: Merged with two previous reports on Copperchair that were filed under different names. Thatcher131 15:37, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed The Uninvited Co., Inc. 21:52, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esaborio[edit]

The first 3 have actually already been banned as sockpuppets of User:Copperchair and are just being provided as more sources for evidence. Larry Lawrence isn't very active, but removes entries related to tying the War on Terrorism to Iraq similar to Copperchair/Esaborio/Varese Sarabande/etc, but has made a few edits to articles they did not make edits to. Larry's recent return has corresponded with the banning of Varese Sarabande (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) as a sockpuppet. Bobblehead 20:53, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: A declined checkuser case involving Copperchair and Esaborio can be found at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Copperchair. --PinchasC | £€åV€ m€ å m€§§åg€ 13:31, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Which is why I didn't include Copperchair as the puppetmaster. Esaborio, Varese Sarabande, and SPECTRE have all been active recently. I was hoping you could check Larry's activities against those accounts, if at all possible? --Bobblehead 16:26, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've added three more. I don't actually think Larry Lawrence is a Copperchair/Esaborio sock, just someone who has made similar edits on one article, but I'm pretty sure about the others being the same guy. TomTheHand 12:45, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Strikethrough on Larry Lawrence, but still need an RFCU on the others to hopefully find an IP range to block. --Bobblehead 15:39, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed that Varese Sarabande, SPECTRE, and Tony Camonte are all sockpuppets of Esaborio. Furthermore, 201.199.77.202 is an open proxy, so I've blocked it indefinitely. No comment on the other IP address. Mackensen (talk) 12:59, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copperchair[edit]

User:Copperchair was blocked for 366 days as of 13:23, March 12, 2006 for editing articles which he was banned from as a result of Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Copperchair (articles on Star Wars and War on Terrorism). User:Esaborio made his first edit on 15:31, March 16, 2006 to Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi and over the following weeks made many edits to Star Wars and War on Terrorism articles. The edits are very similar. Shortly before Copperchair was banned he was updating IMDB rankings of Star Wars movies ([39] [40] [41]), and when Esaborio was created he immediately started doing the same thing ([42] [43] [44]).

They have made very similar edits to War on Terrorism related subjects. Specifically, they both seek to remove references to the Iraq War as being part of the War on Terrorism and they have both shown interest in updating casualty count pages.

Esaborio's user page is also strikingly similar to Copperchair's. Compare Esaborio's page as of today here to Copperchair's user page before he was blocked here.

IP 201.199.77.202 may be Copperchair/Esaborio as well. The anon jumped into editing World War III here and here as soon as Esaborio was warned about violating 3RR, and has been making many similar edits to many articles concurrently with Esaborio. See also:

  1. Template:World War II, where the two made edits within three minutes of each other between 14:21, July 27, 2006 and 14:24, July 27, 2006
  2. War on Terrorism, where the anon removed Iraq from the list of WoT theaters here, was reverted, and had the change put back in by Esaborio here.
  3. World War III again, here, where the IP makes one of Esaborio's favorite edits as seen here and here.

TomTheHand 18:19, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

no Declined Checkuser can't help with this; his most recent edit is too old. You might have better luck taking this to the Administrators' Noticeboard. Mackensen (talk) 20:27, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
