Template:Christian Denominations

I would like to request a template for the categorisation of Christian denominations. I like the template on the Dutch wikipedia. I would like the following categories:

1. Name of denomination 2. Main classification (Roman-Catholic, Protestant, Eastern-Orthodox, etc.) 3. Orientation (main theology, i.e. Calvinism, Arminianism, Baptist, etc.) 4. Founded (Date and/or place of founding) 5. Separated from (name of denomination) 6. Separations (names of denominations that have split off from this denomination) 7. Statistics: 7a. I was wondering if a template coder could code be a collapsible talk page template that would store other {{Onlinesource}} templates so that I could use it on Talk:MMORPG. Cryptid Infobox

We need an infobox for use in the Cryptid Wikiproject. It needs to have fields for 1) the name of the creature, 2) an image of the creature, 3) an image caption, 4) any alternative names for the creature, 5)areas/locations of sightings, 6)approximate height (and/or length) and weight, 7)the diet of the creature, and 8)type (primate, bird, etc.) of creature. Template for geographical imbalance of a section aimed at a region not the world

The 'globalize' template messages for an article or section all seem to say that the article "does not represent a worldwide view of the subject". But the article or section may require not a 'worldwide view' but a regional view. For instance, an article or section on something in Europe, which has been written only with UK examples, needs to say
"does not represent a Europe-wide view" or
"does not provide balanced geographical coverage of the region in question" or
"does not provide balanced geographical coverage of (region specifed)"
For the latter the template should allow the editor to specify the region, ie {{geographical imbalance|region}} produces "does not represent a region-wide view". If there is indeed such a thing please note I searched for 15-20 mins!Thanks Rexparry sydney 00:52, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Help creating a Infobox Template: Automobile Defunct

I was refered to this page from the Wikipedia Help Desk. I would like to have a Infobox created for automobile companies/makes that are now defunct. The other templates I have reviewed do not provide enough specific industry detail that would be required. I don't know if it would be more efficient to modify an existing Infobox, or create a new one. I have a model of what I want it to look like at: User:Drussel3/Auto#Defunct_Automobile_-_Suggestion. I can help add fields to {{Infobox Automobile}} or another template, or create a new template called {{Infobox Defunct Automobile}} or something. I don't think it is a good idea to have the infobox be available for both companies and makes, assuming there are fields specific to each. The company infobox can be modelled after {{Infobox Defunct Company}}. –Pomte 18:34, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
I have reviewed many possibilities before proposing this. This Infobox I am envisioning should be at a Company/Make (definition: GM-Company, Chevrolet-Make) level. Not at an model (model-Corvette), or individual automobile level, this is {{Infobox Automobile}} . I agree with you, this should be modeled after the {{Infobox Defunct Company}}. See the following for what it would be similar to: De Lorean Motor Company, Chrysler, Buick. These are all Infobox Company items.

I would like your expertise on what the ideal option would be, but my suggestion would probably be: Infobox Automobile Company. This way it would be industry specific, and it could be applied to existing auto companies and defunct auto companies. Your thoughts --Drussel3 16:03, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Album infobox... type of album

We kinda need a new type for the album infobox: demos.

See how No Life 'Til Leather lists (demo) in its infobox. A past discussion raised concerns about the notability of demos, but as long as there exist some notable demos, there should be demand for it. A special kind of tournament bracket request.

I looked at templates, but what I want to create is a bracket that has 2 rounds, but contains 3 teams in a match, as well as a 3 game total in each match. I also want to contain a 3rd place match in this tournament bracket as well. Is it possible to make brackets with 3 teams in one match?

Ok, what I want is for 3 matches of 3 teams, right now you have 2, the winners of the threesomes go to the finals, so the finals is a match of 3, and the 2nd place teams go to the consolation match. I shouldn't have said 3rd place match but consolation match. Also, I want 4 spots, so I can show the total of the 3 games. Other than that, it's right.

Great but one small issue, the bar doesn't connect to the final match. Also, can you tweak it so I can add in seeding numbers, this is for showing results of Laser Quest NAC tournaments.

Most if not all of the other tournament bracket templates have seed numbers, so I've added them. I was working in Firefox so I didn't notice that the line doesn't connect to the final in Internet Explorer and possibly other browsers. I'll fix this now. –Pomte 21:26, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Such a template would probably be sent promptly (and rightly) to Templates for Deletion. We generally don't create templates or categories to sort film articles by their actors; that is better served by the Filmography section of the actor's article. EVula // talk // ☯ // 20:52, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Yes it is useful to have a navigation template in articles to lead you between similar topics. We do those all the time for certain types of articles. It's a really bad idea to do them for actor's filmographies. Look at Michael J. Fox: He's been in dozens of things. A template for him would be rather large and potentially added to dozens of articles. But each of those things he's been in has also had numerous other important actors, each of which could theoretically have their own templates added to the article. If we went down this path we would have every film article including a template on every major actor in it, which las links to all the films that actor worked in. It would be a big ugly mess. For this reason navigation templates are generally only added to an article when the links in the template are directly related to the article. Michael J. Anthropocentrism

I had started to create it when I noticed Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/2007 January 26#Template:Anthropocentric. How would you address the concerns raised there, and is {{POV}} inadequate to express the problem with learning? –Pomte 06:26, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
By the sound of it that template was horribly worded. This should be 'this article presents an overly anthropocentric view' not 'this article doesn't present a biocentric view'. NPOV would be fine, but it hardly suggests anthropocentrism does it? Also, I can't see anything at all at WP:NPOV about this subject. If there was (or is? I didn't read through everything) it should be fine. It could also be added if there is nothing there, if people agree to change the NPOV policy. Richard001 11:47, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
Seems reasonable, and I don't see strong objections to this other than the fact that the number of tags keeps rising. See Template:Anthropocentric. Tagged articles will be put into the same category as ones tagged by Template:Toofewopinions, unless there's a better place. –Pomte 07:28, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Parameter

Hello, this section does not exist in the french WP so I put the question here - it may help others here.

I just wanted to know something. I love creating templates, i find them really useful. But it remains that I still don't know how to add some lines in a template so that it can change with different parameters (they're all "static"). I've just succeed to copy/paste class="hiddenStructure" in a model, it worked well for my first template, but it seems no longer used here, or not recommended.

I want to create a simple template. This template would be used to display a little logo of a political party on which there is a link to the party's article. What I want has no matter, it's the way I can reach that. I plan to use that for a lot of others things. I'd like to create only one template which could change the logo just with changing a parameter. Something like this: {{party logo |party = Greens }} That would display

(i also forgot how to put a link on an image...)

Displaying these copyrighted logos via a template is likely not fair use, because you're using it only for identification. For example, tables with Canadian parties use Template:Canadian politics/party colours, which has only colours associated with each party. –Pomte 06:06, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
No matter ! I'd like to create a template which can display different things when I change the parameter value. For my first example, just replace the logos by a little colour, it doesn't matter :

That would add

Use ParserFunctions. #switch is the one that's useful in this case:
style="background-color:{{#switch:{{{party|}}}
  | Greens = green
  | MoDem = orange
  | #default = transparent
}};"

Game score template

A fairly simple request, I hope: a small video game related table to show review scores from various magazines in order to illustrate how the title in question was recieved at the time. Quotes would make us too much of a meta-review site, and may not be representative. What about concise links to the reviews like in Template:Infobox Album? But then you'll have to fend off spam/unprofessional reviews in the infobox as well as the reception section and the external links section. Actually, any external link reviews will have to be moved into the infobox. –Pomte 19:37, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
You're right. The articles I'm primarily intending with this request are extremely retro so I was only really thinking of professional magazine reviews; I didn't take into consideration all the web-review spam that might be included. Multiple page citations

I think it would be useful to make a template that allows for different pages from the same book (or website) to be cited without having to reference the whole book again in the same article.

For example, the article Magic circle references two books for several different passages, but uses different pages. It would be much tidier if it appeared something like this:

  • Buckland, Raymond (2002). Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft, Second edition, Revised & Expanded, Llewellyn Publications. ISBN 0-87542-050-8.

Use <ref> tags as usual, but only include the page number, author and year. Then, use the {{cite}} templates in a separate section for references near the bottom of the page, usually after the notes section. See Mormon handcart pioneers for example. –Pomte 05:05, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

I've done that, but I also added note templates on the longer information so that, if the article gets longer, the relevant book information can be accessed from the page reference. Sandbox for users

That's not a template. The sandbox is managed by a bot which periodically replaces the page with a template and some HTML comments. If you want a bot to manage a page, you'd need help from a bot owner. Also, even if there was some template {{BOT PLEASE PERIODICALLY WIPE THIS PAGE}} it wouldn't work if an experimented wiped out the tag. —dgiestc 18:11, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Request:Simple English Wikipedia

I would like to request a user-box that states the following: "This user contributes to the Simple English Wikipedia with the same user name." I would like the "Simple English Wikipedia" part to be linked to the site itself ([3]). I would like there to be a picture on the left of a cartoonish dictionary (more specifically, it should be borderline type between cartoon and real). The background of the picture should be a light blue. The background of the text should be a light green. The text itself should be bright bold red. The border between the picture and the text should be a 2 px dark orange. The ratio between the text area and the picture area should be approximately 4.2/1 (or something like that). The border of the user-box should be a 5-10 px (whatever suits better) dark brown. The name can be whatever may seem appropriate for this user-box. SEVERAL thanks to whoever can make this for me. Legendary creatures infobox template

It would be nice with an infobox for legendary creatures (such as dragons, centaurs, so on), in a style similar to the animal and paranormal creatures infoboxes, which can be seen here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_Paranormalcreatures

So I could imagine it ending up looking something like this:

A notice for people who upload media to Wikipedia instead of Commons

I find myself asking people to upload their images to Wikimedia Commons all the time. If there was a template that allowed me to say this without typing out a lengthy message it would help, and may also encourage others to do the same. Something like:

Thanks for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! There is however another Wikimedia foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In future, please consider creating an account and uploading media there instead. That way, all the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. Thanks again, and please continue uploading!

Perhaps with a little Commons icon like above. It could be substituted with an image name, for example {{subst:Monkey.jpg|un-commons}} could say 'Thanks for uploading Monkey.jpg to Wikipedia'

I think it is a good idea not covered by the other templates at Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace#Other, and proposed with a link to this section on the talk page. Can an editor better at template coding than me please fix the usage section so it doesn't include the header? Wikipedians by number of created articles

This looks similar to a previously requested template, which was turned down. I am not sure whether it is possible to make such a template. Northern Beaches Secondary College

Hey, I was just wondering if someone could help improve a template I *attempted* to create with my basically nonexistant knowledge of this kinda thing. I wanted to create a template linking the 6 articles on the Northern Beaches Secondary College, in Sydney, Australia, one for the main page and 5 for the associated campuses. Colours would probably want to be dark blue, light blue, orange and white, mimicking the logo, found here. Perhaps the logo could be incorperated as well. The logo should not be in a template as that violates fair use. The default colour of light blue seems suitable enough as the logo has that colour and it doesn't detract from the rest of the page, but if you feel really strongly about the orange then it can be changed back. –Pomte 09:57, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Mayor vs Supervisor in Geobox Settlement

Many of the Town articles use the Geobox Settlement template, which contains a Mayor field. However, in many towns (e.g.-those in New York State), the town leader has the title Town Supervisor, not Mayor. As far as I know, a new template would have to be made. Fields cannot be changed as needed for templates. Doing so voids the field and it just doesn't show up on the page. Go to Wikipedia:Requested templates to request this. LaraLoveT/C 13:45, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
The left column tags of the Geobox Settlement can be changed from their defaults. In this case, "Mayor" is the default when the parameter mayor or leader is used. However, in the case where a municipal leader is not mayor, this can be changed by the following code:

  | leader = Bob Johnson
If you want to see an example of usage in an article, check out Uwchlan Township, Pennsylvania. This is one of the reasons I'm a big advocate of the Geobox series of templates, they are very customizable to meet the specifics of an article, yet still maintain clean and unified look across all articles using Geoboxes. Users who deal with vandalism poorly

In addition to my request above, I have another similar request for good faith users who don't quite do things the best way. This request is for users who deal with vandalism in the wrong way (i.e. who do not revert it). I've used similar messages for several users, and a template would help with this (I just had to type out a message twice, having lost the whole thing going back to get a link). Here's an example of such a message: [4].

The template would read something like this:

Thanks for addressing vandalism [at article name] ([vandal edit] | [your edit]). In future though it would be much better if you could revert vandal edits rather than correcting them manually. If you see something suspicious on a page please check the page history and try to see what has happened - you'll probably discover the last edit was vandalism, which can then be dealt with by simply reverting to the last version. By not correcting vandalism this way we can often let vandals get away with damaging an article, for example their edit may have removed material from the article which never gets added back. Thanks, and please continue to help fight vandalism!

The identification of the article in question and links to vandal edit and the edit where they attempted to fix it would of course be optional fields. Richard001 08:24, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Don't think it could hurt - sounds like a good idea. Compare with the 'basic topics in evolution', for example. I would also add mathematical modelling as well, and there might be others (perhaps some programming and CAD, maybe professional development?). Richard001 02:57, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Quantify

I think they're supposed to be as short as possible. Hmm. Most of these automatically include the pages to which they're applied in a category, but I'm not sure if there's a Quantify-type category. Maybe one should be made.

Infobox Template code problem

Hi. The Template:Infobox Stadium seems to contain parameters that are not in the template code. For example in the infobox on the page, Millennium Dome some of the information inserted in the code on the edit page does not appear on the article. I have inserted the code from the page below for your reference. Not all of the information filled in is displayed on the article page. For example the information inserted for services engineer on the edit page does not appear on the article.

I may have found the cause. Around midnight after 8 March Tkn20 added parameters to Template:Infobox Skyscraper, and a few minutes later documented the parameters in Template:Infobox Stadium/doc (see contribs). It looks like Tkn20 got the two infoboxes mixed up. PrimeHunter 13:37, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

PowerPoint Link Template

It would be nice to have a template for linking to PowerPoint presentations. Just like the others here: Category:External_link_file_type_templates. Maybe put it here: Template:PPTlink. You could have an image like this one or one of the two here for PowerPoint. In addition, it would be nice for .ppt files to be recognized site wide and be labeled automatically as a PowerPoint file with a PowerPoint icon. PowerPoint files should be identified so people will know that it is not an ordinary web page. Outdated Information Template

We need a template message box that editors can add to the top of an article whose information is outdated, to alert other visitors/editors of the need to bring it up to date. Request for help with template coding and usage

This may be the wrong place to ask... but I did have one editor suggest I try here. I have a {{helpme}} on my own talk page asking for some help with template coding and usage. I have already written a simple template myself, User:Duae Quartunciae/T/rev. Clicking on the link shows noinclude documentation. It's just a simple template for generating a link to a revision of an article. It can be improved... but what I WANT is this.
At present, I can type {{subst:User:Duae Quartunciae/T/rev|User:Duae Quartunciae/T/rev|146509269|this one}} and I will generate a link to an early revision of the documentation of my template. I use "subst", because the template is only temporary, while I'm experimenting. What I WANT to be able to do is declare variable of some kind that I can use quickly and easily in the edit window. Maybe a button that inserts the string "subst:User:Duae Quartunciae/T/", or a way to declare a little private use variable, so that "{{{{MY}}rev|146509269|this one}}" would appear as "{{subst:User:Duae Quartunciae/T/rev|146509269|this one}}". Sometimes Anonymous Users=Okay

Would it be possible to have a box that says "This user believes that anonymous editing is okay, as long as they don't vandalize." With "anonymous editing" linked to Category:Wikipedians for anonymous editing. And "vandalize" linked to Wikipedia:Vandalism.
