Finding new font size when up-scaling a video[edit]

Hi all, sorry for what's probably an easy question, but I pulled an all-nighter getting this video done and my brain's fried.

I usually make square videos that are 1080x1080 pixels, and I write subtitles using Helvetica Bold size 45. This time, the client wants a 1920x1920 pixel aspect ratio. What size should the subtitles be so they look like they usually do? --Aabicus (talk) 00:39, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

45 × (1920/1080) = 80. (The aspect ratio for either is 1:1, by the way; perhaps the word you wanted was resolution.) —Tamfang (talk) 02:41, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The above assumes that the software used for adding subtitles uses a fixed point-to-pixel conversion factor. A commonly used factor is that 3 points correspond to 4 pixels, but that is not an axiom. (In printing, 72 points are equivalent to one inch, regardless of the format of the sheet on which the text is printed.) Thanks both of you! 80 was the correct upscale, but Lambian's right in that it didn't look quite right due to a lot more blank space above and below it. Upscaling to font 92 kept it at the margins that looked best. Thanks again! --Aabicus (talk) 17:31, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
