Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OlF)[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. plicit 00:19, 6 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Delete both per unnecessary redundancy with the disambiguator stating a acronym for the subject's name. These redirects existence is like saying the redirects Automated teller machine (ATM) or Network interface card (NIC) should exist. In addition, the acronym isn't correct anyways: The second letter in both redirects' disambiguators is a lowercase "l" ("L"), not an uppercase "I" ("i"). (At the minimum, the latter redirect, Organisation internationale de la Francophonie(OlF), should be deleted per WP:RDAB due to the spacing issue between the title and the disambiguator, and since the properly-spaced variant exists [the former redirect in the nomination, Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OlF)].) Steel1943 (talk) 23:41, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete both Due to the I versus l issue, there's basically no chance that anyone is ever searching for or linking to these. --ais523 10:05, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy delete WP:CSD#G3 These are redirects created by cleanup from page-move vandalism (see this section of the page history). --ais523 10:11, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unlikely misspelling of foreign-language term Mažoji Lietuva; barely found online. 1234qwer1234qwer4 23:17, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The words "soft" and "hard" are not mentioned in the target article anywhere, leaving it unclear what these redirects are meant to refer. Steel1943 (talk) 21:27, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unlikely misspelling. In addition, seems that this lettering as an acronym is used for quite a few organizations that appear when looking through third party search results; there could reasonably be readers searching for this expecting to find some sort of organization (but none of them seem to currently be mentioned on Wikipedia anywhere.) Also of interest regarding this redirect is that the creation of this redirect was 1 of 3 edits done by its creator in 2007, the editor only ever created the 3 edits in 2007; the other two edits were related to the creation of this redirect and seem somewhat vandalistic, in addition to the creator's user name ending with "ttt" (which seems unlikely to be a coincidence due to their edits.) The result of the discussion was trainwreck. But at least some of these can be rerouted to more informative places.

This now redirects to Summary execution but there is no mention of "extreme prejudice" in that article, and it is not immediately obvious why it redirects there. Pinging @MB:. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 07:13, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Terminate with extreme prejudice - redirect to Project GAMMA#Soldiers tried per Tavix. Extreme prejudice may also be retargeted there as a 4th choice (but not 4th in priority). Jay 💬 09:58, 7 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Target "salsa" not mentioned in the article; it used to be on the page but not any more, I feel the redirect should be deleted. Colgatepony234 (talk) 20:08, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Colgatepony234: I'm not sure your statement is clear: "Salsa" is the name of the target article without a disambiguator. Did you mean "taquera" or the phrase "salsa taquera" is not mentioned in the target? Steel1943 (talk) 20:55, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I meant the phrase is not mentioned in the target. Colgatepony234 (talk) 21:31, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification! Steel1943 (talk) 21:39, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom's clarification that the phrase "salsa taquera" is not mentioned in the target article, leaving it unclear why this redirect targets its target, in addition to readers looking up the redirect being led to a page with no information pertaining to the redirect's subject. The result of the discussion was discussion moved to Talk:GMU#Requested move 29 July 2022. (non-admin closure) Steel1943 (talk) 20:17, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Pageviews for George Mason University dwarf the ones for other dab entries; it can be assumed that most people searching English WP for GMU as also looking for the American university. GMU should redirect to George Mason University and this redirect should be the dab page. MB 20:01, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@MB: Procedurally, this would actually be a move request; I'll create a move request here in a moment and ping you. Steel1943 (talk) 20:06, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. The Ukrainian name of this Ukrainian song is Ти ж мене підманула. Russian name is Ты ж меня обманула. Ты ж мэнэ пидманула is a very strange beast: this is the Ukrainian name of the song, but written in Russian orthography (spelling). Who on Earth whould type this? Крывіч (talk) 09:14, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Крывіч: I'm a bit lost here on what you mean by this. Are you saying that the redirect is a combination of two different languages? Steel1943 (talk) 00:10, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The song is called Ти ж мене підманула in Ukrainian; however, someone created this redirect with a Russian spelling. Russian and Ukrainian have a different alphabet (the Ukrainian alphabet includes і and є that are not present in the Russian alphabet whereas Russian has ы and э which are not in the Ukrainian alphabet). Correspondingly, someone spelled this Ukrainian phrase using Russian orthography. The Ukrainian phrase as spelled in Russian is meaningless in Russian itself. TartarTorte 02:04, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: While not explicitly WP:RLOTE as it's not English, using the Russian spelling (replacing і with и and и with ы) is a bizarre Russification of a Ukrainian song title. TartarTorte 01:57, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per TartarTorte, which answers my question regarding this redirect being a mashup of different languages. That leaves this redirect highly implausible in any language. Steel1943 (talk) 06:49, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as unlikely spelling at best --Lenticel (talk) 10:52, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete this second-foreign-language transcription of a foreign-language title. Making this practice routine means tens of thousands of cross-language redirects for every single title. —Michael Z. 14:02, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I agree with Michael Z and would vote to delete or keep if I knew whether the Russian name were more common, or common enough. If the Russian is frequently used why not keep it? I think you can find this to be non-controversial and maybe common. I can't think of many examples, but if you know how to look for redirects to a page, Auld Lang Syne is one. Louis Waweru  Talk  19:44, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think that you did not understand the point. Ты ж мэнэ пидманула is not the Russian name. It if perfectly OK to have redirect from Russian (or Belarussian, or French etc) name of the song, but Russian name of the song is Ты ж меня обманула. Ты ж мэнэ пидманула is the Ukrainian name spelled using Russian orthography. --Крывіч (talk) 07:06, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you read me right. Thank you for explaining (again). I support your delete as well. Louis Waweru  Talk  23:26, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Ayabonga Khaka. Nominally no consensus, defaulting to retarget in the absence of any support for keeping the status quo. signed, Rosguill talk 16:30, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple possible targets: Khakha (where it currently links), Khakas (plural of Khaka) and Ayabonga Khaka. Not sure what best target is, either to Khakas or DAB page seems sensible. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:19, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Disambiguate. There is not going to be a clear primary target for a possible spelling error for multiple targets. BD2412 T 22:51, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Ayabonga Khaka as {{R from surname}} and hatnote for any spelling errors. Correct spellings should take precedent over misnomers. In particular, Khakas is singular; the final s is not the English plural marker. 61.239.39.90 (talk) 07:42, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete and let Search do its job: this redirect is currently getting in the way. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 09:55, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This subject was originally nominated for deletion under AfD last October 2021. Explicit closed the AfD as delete on November 2021 and a days later after the AfD was closed, it was re-created as redirect. There is no sense that this subject will be redirected to Star Magic that the title "artists" of this subject has no connection within the said target. Seems like an ambiguous redirect to me. Most people would probably be thinking of New World vultures rather than this obscure extinct genus Hemiauchenia (talk) 19:02, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think that was the common name used by the La Brea tar pits museum (in a list of taxa found there). I don't think it should get deleted, but could redirect elsewhere if necessary. FunkMonk (talk) 14:05, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
