Trivial application[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

The term is broader and may mean many things, like that of the OS X Mavericks, something related to philosophy, an app to store quotes (also called "trivial app"), something used by Linux-related book, etc. Either retarget to another page, like Application software or App dabpage, or delete. George Ho (talk) 22:08, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@George Ho: is there any argument to be made for making a stand-alone DAB page? VQuakr (talk) 22:17, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
...Converting to a dabpage is possible, but search results reveal very little or no entries using the same name. Alternatively, how about converting the page to a set index instead? Reliable sources are still needed to verify the meaning of "trivial application". BTW, I don't believe that "trivia app" means "trivial application". I don't see this as a helpful or likely redirect. Proposing deletion. AFreshStart (talk) 21:09, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment. This is an {{R from move}} but the page was only at this title for ~90 minutes in 2012 before the move was reverted. Thryduulf (talk) 21:37, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete implausible search term; I doubt anything's going to be broken by deleting it. VQuakr (talk) 21:57, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is confusing. Is Stanislaw (his father's name) also his name? Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 20:56, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is an {{r from move}}. While sometimes we might delete such a redirect when it is clearly redirect, in this case the article was at this title for sixteen years(!) before Petermichaelgenner noticed the error. Bypass backlinks and keep as an {{r from incorrect name}}; check back in 10 years, maybe it will no longer be getting pageviews then. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 04:12, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not English - if it is a real word it could be added to Wiktionary. I could only find Wikipedia:Reference desk/Archives/Language/2014 March 8#Etymology of Bandurki, Rusyn for Potato. Anon3406 (talk) 20:25, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. Outside of Wikipedia and derivatives, I can find only 2 uses of this word - one on a forum about CyanogenMod that doesn't actually make sense, the other the surname of a person who got married in Marathon County, Wisconsin in September 1898. There is also a post in Russian that seems to use a word google transliterates as this in the headline, based on Google translate that post seems to be about accommodation near National University of Kharkiv. None of these seem to have any relationship to potatoes. Thryduulf (talk) 21:03, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per Thryduulf. Veverve (talk) 03:20, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. From the reference desk discussion it seems plausible that this might be a word for "potato" in a Slavic language, but even if it is, it should be deleted per WP:FORRED. —Mx. Granger (talk · contribs) 18:06, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. Good catch. I cannot believe I created this, I must have been having a very bad day. Probably I mistakenly left the wp: off a piped link to wp:wikipedia is not a crystal ball. This could be a typo for various things, it can also be a name (for example in List of 2019 Southeast Asian Games medal winners). Anon3406 (talk) 16:59, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete UrbanDictionary (the quintessential unreliable source) tells me that it reflects a pronunciation of "person" heard in St. John's, Newfoundland, but I can't verify that from elsewhere - every other hit for "Lerson" Newfoundland being a surname. There is no primary topic and misspellings are not prominent among them. Thryduulf (talk) 21:17, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This was a dictionary definition before it was redirected, but it's unclear which language this is from; it is not mentioned in the article. There's one article with this name in the title (Naahar Singh Basnyat) but there are also a film reviewer cited in several articles and a play mentioned at Esa Saario#Theatre, so search results would be more useful. Anon3406 (talk) 16:28, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment the fort in the dicdef is located at Nahargarh (Nahargarh Fort) with one "a". The newspaper The Hindu also claims that "nahar" is "tiger" [1] (garh means fort in Hindi and Urdu). Though I have no idea where "nahar" comes from. -- 65.92.246.142 (talk) 19:01, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Apparently this is a word for "tiger" in some South Asian languages – see wikt:नाहर, but per WP:FORRED the current target isn't appropriate. I can't find a suitable target, so delete per nom and let the search results do their job. —Mx. Granger (talk · contribs) 18:13, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete to facilitate Search. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 09:07, 18 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The content is now in Panthera leo melanochaita, but the name was removed in 2018[2] - probably not a notable person. I couldn't find another page to redirect to - there is Henry Charles Lennox Anderson but Lennox was only one of his middle names. Anon3406 (talk) 16:11, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Lists of people executed in the United States#By state. (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 01:35, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

List at target is not exclusively about US individuals, this redirect could mislead readers and should be deleted. signed, Rosguill talk 16:01, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete as per nom. —AFreshStart (talk) 16:18, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget. The problem here is not that the target list is not exclusive to people executed in the United States, but that the target contains no information on where they were executed or what their crime(s) were (the search term doesn't mention nationality at all). This information is available though in the lists by state at Lists of people executed in the United States#By state, either explicitly in the table (e.g. New Hampshire) or because everyone listed was convicted of murder (e.g. Illinois). Taking people to the index of articles that contain the information they are looking for is very significantly better than search results. Thryduulf (talk) 21:32, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This redirect should be retargeted to Thrombosis where Thromboembolism also reditects to, to avoid confusing the reader. Asmodea Oaktree (talk) 13:44, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rail transport in the Maldives[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 01:36, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The article doesn't say anything about rail transport. (Yes, I know that such redirects about rail transport systems of island nations are often usefull but the article doesn't say anything including that there never were any raliways.) 217.117.125.83 (talk) 10:45, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep but unrefine. I've added a sourced statement that there are no railways to the lead. Thryduulf (talk) 11:23, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Computer processor[edit]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Processor (computing). (non-admin closure) feminist (talk) 16:04, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure why this doesn't directly point to processor (computing) instead of having a hatnote. - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 05:29, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget per nom. Thryduulf (talk) 11:25, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per nom. --Asmodea Oaktree (talk) 13:45, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per nom. --Lenticel (talk) 09:16, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. The reason could be that the CPU, being a featured article, is vastly superior to Processor (computing), and will aid the reader better with respect to the subject. The intro statement of CPU has a link to Processor (computing) if the reader is interested in processors in general. In contrast, the Processor (computing) has couple of sections with 1-liners, and is more or less same as Processor#Hardware. Jay (talk) 16:37, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per nom. One article being of higher quality than another is not a good reason to point a redirect towards what is clearly not the right target. It would be great if we can improve the Processor (computing) article, though. —Mx. Granger (talk · contribs) 18:19, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify, higher quality was one part of what I said, the other part being the CPU article is covering the subject better (although that is a consequence of the article quality). Jay (talk) 19:32, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Now that Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2021 December 29#Slovaks in Hungary (Giurtelecu Șimleului) has closed as "delete", it's time for my promised follow-up. I have decided to nominate all redirects to the target that mention a specific group in Giurtelecu Şimleului. Giurtelecu Şimleului is one of six villages in the commune of Măeriște. The article does not have a village by village breakdown of nationalities/ethnicities/religious groups therein, so these specific topics are not represented in the target article. -- Tavix (talk) 02:02, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
