Dumping a train[edit]

The result of the discussion was keep. (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 00:39, 28 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned at the target, I wasn't able to find any evidence of this phrase's usage online. Delete unless a justification can be provided. signed, Rosguill talk 20:59, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In [1] page 9 it is used (and explained) as a way of saying putting a train into emergency braking. Another usage is on [2] page 7. CapitalSasha ~ talk 13:53, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per CapitalSasha's sources. In the UK you are more likely to say "dump the brakes" rather than the train but that an informal phrase like this differs across the pond is hardly surprising. Thryduulf (talk) 11:45, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ub2[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to UB2. Now that there's a mention at the new target, the deletion rationale is no longer valid. (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 00:36, 28 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned at the target, internet and Google Scholar search results don't suggest a particular primary target. Delete unless a justification can be provided. signed, Rosguill talk 20:49, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Rename to ud2 - there is a "ud2" (explicitly) undefined opcode for the x86 instruction set; "ub2" is probably a typo for that. Guy Harris (talk) 21:12, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - as I said below, there's already a UB2 redirect, which now has an entry for the presumed typo "ub2"; that entry takes you to something that mentions the "ud2" instruction. As there's no particular reason to assume that somebody looking for "ub2" is looking for the "ud2" instruction, removing the page should result in "ub2" being matched, by a case-insensitive match, by "UB2", taking the user to the UB2 page. Guy Harris (talk) 00:51, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • ud2 (with a D) is the assembly mnemonic for an x86 opcode that is guaranteed to always be undefined (and hence executing it results in an illegal opcode error). This 1995 reference manual calls it ub2 (with a B) on page 90, but this may have been a typo since other places seems to refer to it as ud2 (with a D). The ub2/ud2 instruction should be mentioned in the target. SixTwoEight (talk) 21:17, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"The ub2/ud2 instruction should be mentioned in the target."
Whatever "the target" ends up being. There's a discussion at Talk:Illegal opcode about what the page's topic is and should be; I think that the current contents of that page are completely inappropriate for a page entitled "illegal opcode", so the page should be renamed and used as a page to discuss undocumented instructions with an effect other than a trap, and perhaps a page should be created to deal with opcodes documented as being illegal with a documented effect such as a trap.
But that's a separate discussion; given the existence of a UB2 disambiguation page that currently doesn't discuss the instruction, I don't think a case can be made that "ub2" should go directly to a page that discusses the ub2 instruction - at most, the disambiguation page should mention "ub2" as a name Intel once used, perhaps in error, for an instruction that they elsewhere call the "ud2" instruction, with a link to, perhaps, x86 instruction listings#Added with Pentium Pro. Guy Harris (talk) 22:14, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've updated UB2 to mention "ub2" as a name given to the ud2 instruction, with a link to x86 instruction listings#Added with Pentium Pro, so deleting the "ub2" page should, assuming a case-insensitive match, take users to a page that mentions that instruction as one possible meaning for "ub2", along wit the other meanings. Guy Harris (talk) 22:20, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • REtarget to UB2 -- 65.92.246.142 (talk) 10:56, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to disambiguation page UB2. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 15:17, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

These two projects were once mentioned in the target article but have since been removed. These redirect pages may mislead people using the search engine that they currently receive coverage on Wikipedia. Both should be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LBWP (talkcontribs) 14:37, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't seem to be an alternative name for the target subject. (This redirect may qualify for WP:G5, but other editors have edited on it since, so I'm not sure.) Steel1943 (talk) 01:56, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unlikely/WP:COSTLY redirect due to the full stop at the end of the redirect's title. (I believe similar redirect have been deleted in the past via RFD in discussions which I've participated, but I'm having trouble finding the discussions.) Steel1943 (talk) 01:11, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned in target article, leaving it unclear what this word is meant to refer to. There are a few mentions of the word "swarmanoid" on Wikipedia article, but none of which seem to clearly explain what the term means. In addition, it does seem like it has something to do with the current target, but without any mention or definition in the target article, readers looking up this term to attempt and find information about this term will be left with nothing. Steel1943 (talk) 01:09, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per WP:REDLINK seems to be a specific type of robotic swarm. Perhaps someone more skilled on robotics can make an article for it. --Lenticel (talk) 03:15, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Mississippi River floods. Answer to this problem is obvious, withdrawing. Hog Farm Talk 02:01, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is far from the only major Mississippi River flood. There doesn't seem to be a section at Mississippi River specifically about flooding, but I imagine that there is a much better target for this. Hog Farm Talk 00:39, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
