Bone Apple Tea[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget.

Procedural listing. User:DeliciousInternetSpeeds created the redirect in December 2020 with the edit summary, "Created redirect from semi-common example of an eggcorn". User:Mrmariomaster commented at Talk:Eggcorn, "Bone Apple Tea should not be redirected here, as the faulty phrases don't have the same meaning. Instead it should be redirected to Malapropism." I will note that bone apple tea is not currently mentioned at Eggcorn. Cnilep (talk) 23:32, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Change target to malapropism - bone apple tea (bon appetit) isn't an eggcorn as Mrmariomaster pointed out. – The Grid (talk) 01:33, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sorry for the late addition, but I just found that 'Bone Apple Teeth' also redirects to 'Eggcorn'. Cnilep (talk) 07:23, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
grrr... and also 'Bone App the Teeth' Cnilep (talk) 07:28, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Adding that my !vote also applies for the items added after my vote. – The Grid (talk) 16:27, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • We typically don't redirect linguistic examples to their related lexicogical articles unless there's a mention, and this one isn't included at Malapropism#Real-life examples. We could retarget them to Bon Appétit (disambiguation) as a spelling variant, but it's not mentioned there, either. I think it would be best if we retarget the first to wikt:bone apple tea and retarget the other two to that first page. - Eureka Lott 18:18, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Change target to malapropism. The subreddit about malapropisms is called r/BoneAppleTea, so the phrase is probably at least somewhat well known. HotdogPi 19:01, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Incision. Ixfd64 (talk) 21:59, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Should this target the article on cutting or should it target the dab page at Incision? 86.23.109.101 (talk) 16:57, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to Incised. It's not the greatest article, but it's probably a better target. - Eureka Lott 19:27, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to dab page Incision, which strikes me as a similar, slightly better solution. I've actually gone ahead and boldly converted Incised into a redirect pointing at Incision. signed, Rosguill talk 19:17, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WP:XY. These could sensibly be targeting Nut (hardware) or Bolt (fastener). Perhaps a target like Bolted joint or Fastener#Threaded would be better? 86.23.109.101 (talk) 16:03, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. Anarchyte (talkwork) 13:44, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Is this still necessary? Hasn't been at this title since 2008, and is intentionally a soft redirect so people don't use this name - which seems to have worked. Elli (talk | contribs) 13:49, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. It's currently a soft redirect so there's no point keeping this to avoid breaking old versions of pages, as they won't work anyway. Only got 5 page views in the last year, which shows this is not a common way of searching for this template. The template hasn't been at this title for 13 years at this point. Finally the name seems ambiguous to me, and I personally wouldn't expect something as generic as Template:NZ-Currency to be a copyright disclaimer template, I would expect to end up somewhere like Template:New Zealand currency and coinage. 86.23.109.101 (talk) 13:57, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep per WP:RFD#HARMFUL. It seems the article was at this title for almost a year and a half, so deleting the redirect may break incoming links from other websites. —Granger (talk · contribs) 13:52, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Mx. Granger, I fixed the incoming links from the mainspace. --Kailash29792 (talk) 07:13, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but I'm concerned about incoming links from other websites, not internal links from within Wikipedia. This redirect still gets a significant number of pageviews every day, so readers are getting to it somehow, probably through links from other websites. —Granger (talk · contribs) 07:30, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep for now. Still getting 30-50 page views a day, so there's incoming traffic from somewhere. No prejudice against relisting later when traffic has died off. 86.23.109.101 (talk) 11:51, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

While there is only currently one person with this surname - see Satriani - this is potentially ambiguous in the future and should therefore not be used. As it is not currently used, it should be deleted. Elli (talk | contribs) 13:04, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep; every redirect is potentially ambiguous in the future. Wikipedia doesn't just stay stagnant for eternity – it maintains itself. If ever this redirect becomes ambiguous, it will be taken here and the appropriate action will be taken. This nomination serves only to be a maintenance burden as deleting this redirect is at this moment completely useless. If it isn't harmful right now, then just leave it alone. J947messageedits 05:34, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, there are no other templates this is ambiguous with. If that changes in the future, then we can discuss whether it is appropriate to retarget, delete, or disambiguate. -- Tavix (talk) 03:22, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to Satch for editors' navigation considering the unhelpfulness of this search page. It's ambiguous with Template:Louis Armstrong. I think that such a retarget is the most helpful solution here despite being unconventional. J947messageedits 05:41, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as an ambiguous and unused template redirect. A WP:CNR wouldn't be a desirable outcome. - Eureka Lott 04:29, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as ambiguous and unused, per above. I disagree with retargeting to the dab page because I think it is highly unlikely that readers are going to be searching for articles in template space, and I don't think a list of articles is of great use to editors searching for templates. 86.23.109.101 (talk) 11:45, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Common phrase, at least in American English, that refers to a number of things beyond just this usage; seems too generic to point specifically here, and I don't think loosely-defined slang terms are good candidates for disambiguation. Hog Farm Talk 05:31, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A redirect to a stale draft of a guideline, implies that there is an published guideline or policy involving elections and referendums. Could be misleading to users searching for an actual guideline (although there should be one quite frankly). JayJayWhat did I do? 04:11, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. These are potentially valuable redirects if a policy defining inclusion criteria for elections ever gains consensus, and as such these should not be pointing to an abandoned userspace essay. There's a proposed notability guideline under development at Wikipedia:Notability (politics)#Elections, if that guideline gains consensus these should be recreated to point there. 86.23.109.101 (talk) 12:05, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Delete, as obsolete and unused. {{RWS}} started out as an independent template, but all the pages that it would have linked to were moved by the end of December 2017 and this template then became redundant. It was converted to a redirect three years ago, but all remaining uses have now been updated. AlgaeGraphix (talk) 00:19, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. "Redundant" is not a reason to delete a redirect. It's harmless in its present form and deletion will break old revisions without bringing any benefit. Thryduulf (talk) 11:56, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The pages {{RWS}} redirect to no longer exist. What's the point of preserving redlinks? AlgaeGraphix (talk) 12:59, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's not how it works. Templates in old revisions transclude the current template, which works in a sufficiently similar manner that it wont produce redlinks. Thryduulf (talk) 19:32, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, seems harmless. The old RWS would send you to "{{{1}}} Railway Station" and the new Stnlnk sends you to "{{{1}}} railway station". Unless you have two pages that only differ in capitalization of "Railway Station" this seems harmless as a redirect when viewing old revisions. Thanks! Constantine[edit]

The result of the discussion was Not a discussion for RfD. (non-admin closure) (t · c) buidhe 04:53, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Before making this nomination, I checked the links-in. After filtering out articles which include templates relating to Christianity and the Roman Empire, there were 111 of them. 38 (34%) were intended for an article about a conurbation of almost one million people which receives nearly 300 views/day. That is far too high a proportion and view count for a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to an unrelated article which doesn't mention the place.

On my machine, typing "Constantine" into the search box gives Constantine the Great as top option, and the DAB page and the conurbation nowhere. Even on the DAB page, the conurbation is difficult to find unless you already know what you're looking for (to break the suspense, it's Constantine, Algeria; which would be MOS:DABCOMMON on a DAB page at the basename). The current arrangement does a serious disservice to readers. It doesn't even save typing for readers looking for the emperor.

I propose: make Constantine the DAB page at the basename and redirect Constantine (disambiguation) to it (a WP:ROBIN swap).

Note to closer. If the change is made, {{ping}} me and I will WP:FIXDABLINKS, with any luck before Constantine appears in the cynically/despairingly/resignedly-named WP:TDD#Today's highlights. Narky Blert (talk) 00:07, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think this would be better as an RM. J947messageedits 00:33, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yeah, move proposals go via WP:RM instead. A discussion would be a good idea in any case, but it's not strictly speaking necessary: the present arrangement dates to a bold move of 2017, so I guess that could just be reverted and the dab page moved back to the primary title à la BRD. – Uanfala (talk) 03:00, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
