July 26[edit]

This is a list of redirects that have been proposed for deletion or other action on July 26, 2021.

Limobike[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was Restore article without prejudice to AfD. signed, Rosguill talk 20:49, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Barely enough coverage to merit mention on Virgin Group back in 2015 and now there's even less. Redirecting has no value and Limobike isn't notable enough to merit a stand alone article. Dennis Bratland (talk) 21:31, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Note I've added Virgin Limobike to this discussion. Thryduulf (talk) 09:47, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Revert to an article without prejudice to AfD per WP:BLAR. When redirection of article content is challenged the correct course of action is to discuss the article content at AfD. Virgin Limobike should be retargetted to Limobike after it is restored, if the target is deleted at RfD it will be eligible for G8 speedy deletion, if it is redirected a bot will automatically fix the double redirect, if it is kept then it will take readers to the content they are looking for. Assrape[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. plicit 13:11, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Implausible search term. If someone were actually looking for information on anal rape specifically, they would type that, which is why that redirect has far more pageviews. I think it's reasonable to assume that the few pageviews this has are from immature individuals typing something funny into the search bar. Un assiolo (talk) 17:00, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. Seems like a plausible search term with an appropriate target to me, even if some (or most) are "immature individuals typing something funny into the search bar". Some of our readers may be sufficiently unsophisticated (by age or second-language-skills or IQ) to know to type "anal rape" instead. Redirects are cheap, and this will help a small but worthwhile number of people. Alsee (talk) 17:38, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep and tag with {{R avoided double redirect}}. Elli (talk | contribs) 19:54, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - I have a difficult time believing that someone typing in assrape is looking for an encyclopedic article on the serious topic of rape. It's just a vulgar meme/joke. I don't think we need to entertain it. ‡ El cid, el campeador talk 13:33, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Alsee. Stats show that this is being used, per WP:NPOV and WP:NOTCENSORED it's not our place to judge what search terms are sufficiently highbrow. If someone is searching on Wikipedia we have to assume that they are looking for encyclopaedic information and if we have any information it is our job to make it as easy for them to find as possible. Thryduulf (talk) 19:28, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. I would say that it is a viable search term, but needs to redirect to "sodomy" not "rape" per the usual legal definition which typically restricts "rape" to "vaginal intercourse" only, at least in the legal sense- if not in the "dictonary" sense. 98.178.191.34 (talk) 01:17, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep vernacular for anal rape, which should probably have a more specific target. User:力 (power~enwiki, π, ν) 23:11, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep It's a legitimate term currently in use, even if it's less common or more "immature". Agree with Thryduulf. Also, it should not redirect to sodomy since sodomy does not necessarily mean rape and sometimes doesn't even mean anal sex. Winston (talk) 07:34, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep I don't know where it went but I swear there was a jingle that went "always the one, yeah, always coca cola" and people who remember that jingle like I do can be redirected to the correct song, which appears to be "Whenever there's fun, there's always Coca-Cola, yeah" (https://genius.com/Joey-diggs-always-coca-cola-lyrics). I thought the song was called "always the one" not "always coca cola". UserTwoSix (talk) 17:31, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete according to the NYTimes, the lyric is "Coca-Cola Classic is always the one. Whenever there is fun, there's always Coca-Cola." It's (part of) a jingle, not a slogan; as mentioned it isn't (and shouldn't be) in the current target article. Based on Google search results, it's also not the primary topic for this very vague phrase, which is the title of at least half-a-dozen non-notable creative works. Offcut[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was disambiguate. No prejudice against the disambiguation pagebeing converted to a stub article if editors can find relevant references. signed, Rosguill talk 20:47, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Too general a term to redirect to the very specific machining use - a search on the word within en.wiki finds it used for fabric, meat, etc. Perhaps needs a Wiktionary link? (I created this redirect by moving the article away from this term). PamD 07:47, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Disambig I agree with the nominator that this is far too general a term to redirect to such a specific use. In addition to the current target there is the The Off Cut Festival, the Offcutts (band) and possibly others. A Wiktionary link and see-also to Cutoff (disambiguation) would also fit. Thryduulf (talk) 09:04, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment The current target is more of a dictionary definition than an encyclopaedic article. --John B123 (talk) 16:06, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete and leave for search results. In machining, kerf loss is the material lost by the action of the tool (e.g. material expelled by a drill or actually removed by a saw) while an offcut is potentially useful material that remains after a workpiece is cut to size (e.g. the remaining portion of an 8ft board cut down to 6ft, which is slightly less than 2ft because of kerf loss - the width of the saw blade is not zero). They are related but not the same thing. Retargeting to cutoff wouldn't be appropriate: I don't see any titles on that dab page where "offcut" is a synonym (nobody wears "offcut shorts"; you don't say "that guy offcut me!" when someone swerves in front of you; voltage and temperature regulating devices aren't called "offcuts" and don't "off-cut" when they trigger). Ivanvector's squirrel (trees/nuts) 13:24, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • I wasn't suggesting to retarget this to "cutoff" but to link to that dab in a see-also section from this one (mistaking the two is a plausible error for a non-native speaker, which isn't enough to retarget or combine the dabs but see-also links are nearly free so the link is justifiable). Thryduulf (talk) 14:47, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
      • Ah, I misread. Would it be appropriate to create a dab for a dictionary definition with other uses listed? See draft in a minute. Ivanvector's squirrel (trees/nuts) 19:31, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep draft. What the squirrel has created is actually a stub article, which is better. I think I'd move the "It may also refer to" entries to a hatnote, et voila. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 15:50, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's really just a dab that's a bit more descriptive than usual. I'm not sure this is really a notable topic for a standalone article. Ivanvector's squirrel (trees/nuts) 14:46, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As a dab page it's too far beyond MOSDAB and would be torn to shreds. I quite like the stub, but it's unsourced and doesn't yet mention textiles or meat. Agree that the other uses would be better as hatnotes. Not sure this can work. PamD 05:15, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I hadn't considered butchering and textiles, and those don't quite fit the definition I drafted. I see some evidence that offcuts in various industries may be GNG-notable; perhaps we can keep this draft for now (for the purposes of this discussion) and work on developing it into a set index article? Ivanvector's squirrel (trees/nuts) 12:52, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've added food processing and textiles to the Squirrel's draft - just do a search on the word "Offcut" in en.wiki to see how prominent these uses are (rissoles, patchwork quilts, etc). Still not quite sure it works as a dab page, but perhaps we need to WP:IAR to end up with the most useful solution. PamD 07:23, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned at the topic; these names are all pretty clearly athletic nicknames, but in the absence of any specific coverage at the target I don't think we need the redirects. In the case of Ridgewood Maroons, it's not even clear that it's pointing to an accurate section, as the title could refer to Maroons. signed, Rosguill talk 15:34, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Tongren (disambiguation). (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 21:03, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. Web searches for "Tong Ren" result in websites about the energy healing called Tong Ren Therapy. Users of Wikipedia searching for "Tong Ren" may be looking for Tong Ren therapy, not Tongren the city. Although "Tong Ren" does not have its own article, it is mentioned in the Energy Medicine article. Wikipedia users should be able to see a variety of search results, including Tongren the city, rather than being automatically redirected to Tongren. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Indubioush (talkcontribs) 21:00, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep Redirect as per 61.239 - In order to have a disambiguation page one needs to have a list of active Wikipedia pages to link to. If "Tong Ren Therapy" is not a Wikipedia-notable topic, you do not consider it. However you disambiguate to one that is (Tongren city). In romanized Chinese it is common for people to separate the syllables ("Shen Zhen" instead of "Shenzhen", "Gan Zhou" instead of "Ganzhou"), so English Wikipedia redirects should be established that do that. Therefore we need a disambiguation that redirects "Tong Ren" to "Tongren" WhisperToMe (talk) 21:28, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Tongren (disambiguation). Wikipedia covers two WP:DABMENTIONed topics which are correctly spelled with a space as "Tong Ren" (plus the famous WP:PTM Tong Ren Tang in the "See also" section). The disambiguation page serves both readers who want one of those topics, and readers who incorrectly put a space in one of the topics called Tongren. 61.239.39.90 (talk) 22:38, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sweetener[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was move Sweetener (disambiguation) to the base title. (non-admin closure) feminist (+) 13:54, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Retarget to Sweetener (disambiguation) as low-calorie sweeteners are not the primary sweeteners talked about when "sweetener" is used. There are many sweeteners and ideally this disambiguation should be an article eventually. The word "sweet" means "Having a taste of sugar" which first and foremost consists of all substances that actually contain sugar, glucose, fructose, sucrose, etc. and secondarily contain imitations which induce the taste sensations of sugar. To "sweeten" means to "To make sweet to the taste". And "sweetener" means "Something added to food to sweeten its taste, especially an artificial substitute for sugar". The word has been used long before the artificial sweetener companies began promoting their products. UserTwoSix (talk) 17:34, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment This was nominated at RfD in August 2018, but that discussion was procedurally closed because it should have been a requested move discussion. That proposal to move Sweetener (album) over this redirect was withdrawn following unanimous opposition. The second RfD in March 2019 unanimously held that sugar substitute is the primary topic. Thryduulf (talk) 21:51, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agree that a standalone article is ideal. Until we have that, keep at the primary target. We have around 60 usages of the redirect; do we know how many of them do not refer to Sugar substitute? Jay (Talk) 05:03, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Retarget per nom and the exhaustive analysis by Thryduulf. Jay (Talk) 12:48, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Make disambig primary in the absence of a generic article. I've just looked through every article-space link to this redirect and it's clear that sugar substitute is not the primary topic, if there is a primary topic it is the generic "something that makes things sweeter". For my full analysis see Wikipedia talk:Redirects for discussion/Log/2021 July 26, but in summary 23 links are currently definitely or probably incorrect, 29 links are correct but linking to a generic article would be at least as correct if not better, 4 links are correct and retargetting to a generic article would make them incorrect, and 6 I'm uncertain whether they are correct or not. A further 2 are correct but the articles could be improved by linking to the generic meaning instead or as well, and 1 link (now corrected) was referring to a film. Thryduulf (talk) 10:04, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • N.b., Rather than a retarget as proposed, the correct course of action would be to move Sweetener (disambiguation) over this redirect. See WP:MALPLACED. (Procedural comment only.) --BDD (talk) 15:04, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I think "artificial sweetener" is the primary topic for Sweetener, and that page is sugar substitute. It is somewhat awkward, but I think it's better than the "disambiguation page" which (apart from an Ariane Grande album) is just a List of sweet things. User:力 (power~enwiki, π, ν) 23:25, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever you might think, the incoming links demonstrate conclusively that "artificial sweetener" is not the primary topic. If there is a primary topic it is "substance added to food to make it taste sweeter", in several cases the context makes it clear that the substance being referred to is or can be sugar. Thryduulf (talk) 09:41, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This would be a more convincing argument if there were an article on "natural sweeteners" or the like (I'm not 100% sure of the terminology; natural sweetener redirects to artificial sweetener, which seems unfortunate). Honey may be a sweetener, but nobody refers to honey as "sweetener"; it is not an alternate title. If anything, honey is a "sugar substitute". I suppose we have List of unrefined sweeteners, which with some cleanup could be a target. User:力 (power~enwiki, π, ν) 17:48, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The lack of an article about generic sweeteners (which is what the majority of uses of this redirect are actually intending to link to, see the analysis links above; several of them explicitly or implicitly include sugar in the meaning of "sweetener" they are using) is why I'm recommending moving Sweetener (disambiguation) to this title. The result of the discussion was retarget to Tunisian protests. (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 20:35, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

2021 Tunisian political crisis is not the main topic here. Tunisian bread riots, Tunisian Revolution, 2013–2014 Tunisian political crisis, Bizerte crisis, and Tunisian independence are all more significant than the 2021 incident. While this could be converted in a DAB or list article, I am not sure I see the point as other countries do not have such a DAB as far as I can see and it will end being a list of anything that could be labelled as a political crisis in the country which may be quite large. Eostrix  (🦉 hoot hoot🦉) 12:38, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to and expand Tunisian protests into a set index of all notable protests and associated crises in Tunisia. There is plenty of precedent for such pages and this is a very likely search term that we should be dealing with directly not leaving to unpredictable search results (which can be several clicks away, depending on how and on what device someone looks for content at this title). Thryduulf (talk) 00:01, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget I agree there is no primary topic; the events after the death of Mohamed Bouazizi would have been my best guess for the primary topic. No need to convert to a DAB when Tunisian protests is a good enough DAB. User:力 (power~enwiki, π, ν) 23:27, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
