September 10[edit]

This is a list of redirects that have been proposed for deletion or other action on September 10, 2020.

Sweat Engine[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. signed, Rosguill talk 16:25, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Article was deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sweat Engine, now just recreated as a redirect to a compilation album of questionable notability. The band has a track on a few other comps, whose articles were all created by the same person. WP:XY. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 22:45, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Neo FIlms[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete mis-spelled, retarget others. Wug·a·po·des 18:48, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of "Neo" or "Falcon" at the target; searching online for the former mostly returns results about a seemingly unrelated Greek company, for the latter an also seemingly unrelated company [1]. Delete unless a justification can be provided. signed, Rosguill talk 15:23, 17 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete at least the two miscapitalized "FIlms" redirects as unambiguous errors since they're newly created and unlikely to be harmful deletions.
Weak Retarget the other two to Viva Entertainment, where they are at least mentioned (although unreferenced), making a better target (if not deleted). FWIW: this logo at least links Neo and Viva Entertainment, although it's a fandom site. -2pou (talk) 21:23, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: I'm not fond of multiple relists, but am hoping we can get further input on 2pou's suggestions. If these are truly Viva Films subsidiaries, we should probably mention there, but retargeting to the parent company seems acceptable.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, BDD (talk) 22:16, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete the misspelled ones, which are pretty much useless, since the search bar is not case sensitive. Retarget the two others per 2pou, as they are mentioned at the suggested target. Not a very active user (talk) 12:28, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Delete, similar to last month's discussion at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2020 August 20#Draft:Donald trump, though in this case there is a small amount of history from what looks like an attempt, via user sandbox, to fork the article into an attack page. Not really mentioned at target; suggest retageting to Wikipedia:Wikimedia Cloud Services, where WMFLabs and Wmflabs point already. 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 20:52, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget per nom. Asmodea Oaktree (talk) 21:47, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose retargeting; current mainspace target is superior to a cross-namespace redirect. UnitedStatesian (talk) 21:55, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per nom, to be consistent with other similar redirects and also because the suggested cross-namespace target provides more information about WMF Labs than the current target. Not a very active user (talk) 04:34, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per nom. It's a simple spelling variant (and different spellings pointing to different places is a recipe for confusion). Narky Blert (talk) 12:35, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per above. Cross-namespace redirects are not inherently harmful, the potential problems come when someone searching for encyclopaedic information lands in project-space. However there is no encyclopaedic topic with this or a similar name so the chance of that happening is very slight, and combined with the lack of any appropriate location in articlespace for a hatnote the CNR to the perfect location wins out. The result of the discussion was restore list without prejudice to AfD signed, Rosguill talk 16:24, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

While I think the topic is notable, it is clear that others disagree. Fine. But as a redirect, it simply doesn't fly, per WP:PLA. No such list at target or anywhere. Paradoctor (talk) 20:40, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fine with me. I'll wait for discussion here to be closed. Paradoctor (talk) 14:02, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete since the target article contains no list. However, the template {{Superstition}} exists and @Paradoctor: might add to that template any useful material from the previous version of the redirected/deleted list. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 18:24, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Restore list without prejudice to AfD. It's clear there is disagreement about whether this should be a list or not, and the place to discuss that is on the talk page or at AfD, not RfD. Thryduulf (talk) 22:10, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Restore list per Thryduulf. --Soumya-8974 talk contribs subpages 17:35, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"Jungle Book" redirects[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was Delete 2017, keep 2018. Wug·a·po·des 18:46, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There are no 2017 or 2018 films named "Jungle Book". There is a 2018 film named "Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle", but I'm not 100% accurate if we should keep the 2018 one. Seventyfiveyears (talk) 20:07, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. Per nom, there are no 2017 or 2018 films named "Jungle Book", and so these redirects are misleading. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 18:25, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep 2018 film, the article's lead describes it as a "new Jungle Book film" so this is a plausible search term. Delete 2017 as the year is inaccurate. signed, Rosguill talk 16:23, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete and keep respectively, per Rosguill. --BDD (talk) 18:57, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A bit too vague to be useful (contrast Democratic party tickets), I'd suggest deletion. signed, Rosguill talk 16:14, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • I can see how these would hypothetically be vague, but would want to see competing usages before I could support deletion. --BDD (talk) 19:16, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. I see no evidence of the term "Democratic ticket" or "Republican ticket" being used outside the US. There do exist tickets for state gubernatorial elections, but the presidential ticket is arguably a primary topic. In any case I see no difference between this and Democratic party tickets. -- King of ♥ 20:59, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Welch language[edit]

The result of the discussion was keep. signed, Rosguill talk 19:33, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Brand newly created, "Welch" is an archaic spelling of "Welsh", but per WP:PANDORA, there's no reason to create redirects to every page that contains "Welsh" in the name replaced with an archaic spelling. The dab page at "Welch" already indicates this. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 16:50, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • If archaic spelling is inappropriate, then why we have Scotch language redirecting to Languages of Scotland? It should be deleted as well (there should be no citing of WP:OTHER since we are talking about redirect deletion here, not article). --Soumya-8974 talk contribs subpages 17:05, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Usually WP:OTHERSTUFF applies to any sort of deletion discussion, including those about redirects. Though not explicitly stated, there is also no indication that RfDs should be an exception. CycloneYoris talk! 21:18, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak Delete (was Neutral): I created this link after a request at AFC. I researched it first and found an 1816 book, An English and Welsh vocabulary: or, An easy guide to the antient British language. To which is prefixed, a grammar of the Welsh language, by T. Richards. Also, A dissertation on the Welsh language, by J. Walters. However, Google search results and Google Books have it mis-titled as An English and Welch vocabulary: or, An easy guide to the antient British language. To which is prefixed, a grammar of the Welch language, by T. Richards. Also, A dissertation on the Welsh language, by J. Walters which fooled me (search, book). I was going to be "neutral" until I realized I'd been fooled - along with a lot of other people - by a bad transcription. It's a "weak" delete because the term still pops up in unrelated search results (search, example). davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 17:17, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as a standard {{R from obsolete spelling}}: well attested in the older literature [3] [4] [5]. – Uanfala (talk) 17:22, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Redirects are there to aid linking and searching. Anyone searching for information on the Welsh language is not going to be spelling it like this. At best, they simply don't know that "Welch" is an archaic spelling of "Welsh", but Wikipedia is not a dictionary, and it's inappropriate to create redirects for every possible obsolete/archaic spelling variant of every word that was ever used. As I already mentioned, the dab page at Welch already lists this fact, and that's more than enough for our purposes. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 17:34, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
We very definitely do create redirects for attested historic spellings. This redirect is not for readers who come with the intention of reading about the Welsh language, but for those who encounter this particular term in the literature and come here to check what it is (or to double-check it is what they believe it is). I don't see the relevance of the page Welch and its mention, buried very deep, of this alternative spelling – readers who search for "Welch language" will not land at that page. – Uanfala (talk) 17:48, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Uanfala. I will never understand how in the world PANDORA applies to an attested alternative spelling, but there you go. -- Tavix (talk) 18:43, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy keep: Attested archaic spelling, what's wrong with that? "it's inappropriate to create redirects for every possible obsolete/archaic spelling variant of every word that was ever used" with a link to WP:PANDORA? Why is it inappropriate? These are helpful redirects; I encourage editors to create other similar redirects, and I have no idea how PANDORA is supposed to apply here. 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 20:03, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. The user who requested that this be created did not understand that we only need the single archaic Welch, which is why there are no redirects for Welch people, Welch mythology, Welch Government, etc. UnitedStatesian (talk) 22:02, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per above. How in the world is this redirect harmful in any manner? J947messageedits 22:10, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete These shutoffs were intended to prevent fires and it seems they are likely to continue as time goes on. They are likely to happen around the same time each year (late summer or fall), so the shutoffs for the two years are not connected. These races appear to be distinct, although held at the same location. No mention at the target. Note that Eddie Gilstrap Motors ARCA Fall Classic redirects to ARCA Menards Series and appears to refer to the same subject, although it's not mentioned by name there either. I would weakly lean towards redirecting to ARCA Menards Series on that basis. signed, Rosguill talk 15:46, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - "Eddie Gilstrap Motors" is the former sponsor of the race which could generically be called the Fall Classic or Fall Classic 200. This redirect was probably created since the 2019 edition was called the "Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic 200". Unless something about this race can be added to the existing target (since they are both ARCA races held at Salem Speedway), then I would suggest deletion since there is no mention at current target or at ARCA Menards Series. Eddie Gilstrap Motors ARCA Fall Classic should be deleted too. A7V2 (talk) 00:57, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Very weak retarget to Anti-Barney humor (what this thing smells of) or delete. I don't know if it would really be associated with criticism so much as insults. Regards, SONIC678 16:04, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Obscure synonym. Soumya-8974 talk contribs subpages 14:03, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. So obscure that I can't even find a single reference to it anywhere. It's more plausible as a typo for "moon" for someone with a sticky O key, but even that's pretty implausible. (We don't even have one with 3 O's, which I probably shouldn't mention per WP:BEANS, but whatever). –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 14:28, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - Seems I created this WP:Redirect some time ago (11 October 2018) - at the time, there may have been a very good WP:RS suggesting "moooon" as another name for a "moon of a moon", or Subsatellite - although I found these references,[1][2][3] I'm unable to locate an even better WP:RS reference at the moment - *entirely* ok with me to do whatever WP:CONSENSUS decides of course - Drbogdan (talk) 14:45, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - There's reliable sources like Smithsonian (magazine) [6],[4] which I've added to the target. 59.149.124.29 (talk) 00:40, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment - Thank you *very much* for finding this "WP:RS" "Smithsonian (magazine)" reference[4] - this reference (published on 11 October 2018) is likely the one that had inspired me to create the "Moooon" redirect on the same date (ie, 11 October 2018) - Thanks again - and - Stay Safe and Healthy !! - Drbogdan (talk) 01:30, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, now mentioned at the target, with a source. Not a very active user (talk) 04:49, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
