Rainy Men[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. signed, Rosguill talk 20:11, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This was created as an article about a song it claimed was on The Resistance by Muse, half a year after the album came out. However, this song is not on the album, and it does not seem to exist, as nothing comes up on Google about it when searching for "rainy men" muse. This redirect has no purpose, and should be deleted. DemonDays64 (talk) 23:39, 2 June 2020 (UTC) (please ping on reply)[reply]

  • Delete per nom, I'm not seeing anything relevant to Muse or anything else to retarget it to (most google hits seem to be scanoes and wet weather clothing for men). Thryduulf (talk) 23:59, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

W. Bush[edit]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Bush (surname). (non-admin closure) Mdaniels5757 (talk) 22:14, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ambiguous with all the William Bushes and Wesley G. Bush. It may be a legitimate way of differentiating between the two Bush presidents but it does give off big ambiguity vibes. Retarget to Bush (surname) is my preferred option, but deleting this is fine. J947 [cont] 21:37, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Retarget to Six Articles as ambiguous? 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 21:01, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Agree. This proposal seems reasonable to me. Ltwin (talk) 23:27, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per nom. "6 Articles" and "Six Articles" should not lead to different pages. Thryduulf (talk) 00:01, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned at the target, note also that this redirect was created by a user that has since been blocked for spamming. Delete unless a justification can be provided. signed, Rosguill talk 18:45, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Delete per nom. I don't see any connection of this doctor (assuming "Md" actually meant for M.D.) to the college in question. The title of the redirect is not helpful either, as there are a lot of doctors named Mushfiqur Rahman from different universities and colleges. --Pandakekok9 (talk) 02:37, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. I would assume "Md" is for Mohammad, but that doesn't help. No-one's going to learn anything about him at the target. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 14:31, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

While the target mentions a "Syed Kamrul", there's no full matches for this name. Searching online, "Kazi Kamrul Hasan" appears to be the name of a recording artist with no obvious connection with the current target. Note also that the editor that created this redirect has since been blocked for spam/advertising. I would suggest deletion. signed, Rosguill talk 18:31, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A redirect to a list article which purports to require that only applications with a full article may be listed there. Apart from the redirect and the redirect target, this Twitter app is mentioned only at Ashton Kutcher, a celebrity endorser who doesn't represent a useful target either. There is no real content about this app anywhere on Wikipedia, and helping readers to find nothing is useless. 50.248.234.77 (talk) 15:19, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. CrazyBoy826 20:41, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete because it has now been removed from the article (aside: that "article-specific guideline" smacks of WP:LOCALCONSENSUS, but we're not really here to discuss that...). Anyway, this redirect doesn't seem helpful to the user. --NYKevin 04:56, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I didn't care to say anything more than "purports to require" on that point. In any case, there was no substantial content in the now-removed list item either. 50.248.234.77 (talk) 15:15, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to 2020 Styrian Grand Prix. (non-admin closure) Mdaniels5757 (talk) 16:04, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

These redirects were created as placeholders when the new 2020 F1 season calendar was announced per convention. However, the name has since been corrected to Styrian GP rather than Steiermark GP so these redirects are no longer necessary. No articles point to them.
5225C (talkcontributions) 10:40, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak keep. But retarget to 2020 Styrian Grand Prix. Note that this retargeting did already happen but was reverted by the nominator. Seems like a plausible search term. Steiermark is the native name of Styria and it its native language its called the "Großer Preis der Steiermark".Tvx1 13:18, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't have a problem with retargetting, but that edit caused a conflict which I had to overwrite to list it here.
    5225C (talkcontributions) 22:36, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes I see. Both the edits in question happened around the same time. Nevertheless you could still have changed the redirect target in the edit window when the edit conflict popped up before saving the page.Tvx1 11:21, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Previously used only in a template, this redirect is no longer used, and not useful. Punctuation is wrong (hyphens should be dashes); case is wrong (Line is never capped in this context in sources); unnecessary disambiguator (CTA) would never be used in a link. These redirects don't specify what characters are meant to be excluded (there is a section about other antagonists, but I'm not sure about refining there), and could potentially confuse readers. Regards, SONIC678 04:58, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The article does not mention why this redirects here, and there is no mention of "Beacon Communications" at [5]. The term is ambiguous with Beacon Communications Corporation and Beacon Communications (publisher). Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 09:39, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Comment The page for the filmmaker was originally at Beacon Communications because that was the company's former name (see, e.g., the IMDB page for Air Force One -- scroll down to "Company Credits". I created this redirect more than a decade ago when working on articles about newspapers because even with the name change, I figured more people would know "Beacon Communications" as the producer of blockbuster films than would know about a couple very small publishers of local newspapers. Some connection to the filmmaking company should be kept -- perhaps this should be a dab page with links to all three articles. ``` t b w i l l i e ` $1.25 ` 23:58, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

note STH is a fairly well known fossil site in the Temblor of Kern County, CA. References to the site can be found in both scholarly journals and general online searches. It is distinct from Sharktooth Peak. Ryan shell (talk) 14:21, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The "i" is far from the "n" and "a" on the QWERTY keyboard making this look like an unlikely search term. Delete unless a justification can be proven. OcelotCreeper (talk) 18:51, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete, probably a misspelling. --Stay safe, PRAHLADbalaji (M•T•AC) This message was left at 22:50, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as misspelt and ambiguous: could also be a typo for animal sex. Narky Blert (talk) 07:55, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. This is a misspelling (and should be tagged as such), but based on 106 page views last year and no shortage of google hits for the exact term it appears to be a common one. While "animal sex" might seem equally plausible, the google results show it is not used in that sense. Thryduulf (talk) 10:43, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
A misspelling from which? One too many letters or one too few? Narky Blert (talk) 13:17, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As I said, a misspelling from "Anal sex" is the only one that actually sees usage. This might be because "anal sex" is a much more frequently used term than "animal sex" but it doesn't matter why one is used and the other not, only that in practice this isn't ambiguous. Thryduulf (talk) 13:49, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
How do you know? Narky Blert (talk) 17:28, 28 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Because in 100% of the uses I found in searches the meaning was very clearly anal sex not animal sex - as I said initially. If you can find significant use to mean "animal sex" then I will reconsider, but as it stands the evidence is clear. Thryduulf (talk) 18:36, 28 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
How is "anial" a misspelling for "anal"? "animal" I can understand. The "i" on a US EN QWERTY keyboard is nowhere near the space between A and N keys. Perhaps if it were "anail", but that'd be trivial. -- Tytrox (talk) 10:15, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Tytrox: I don't know why people spell it that way, but that doesn't matter. The only thing that is relevant is that based on all the evidence we have people do use this spelling to find content about "anal sex" and they don't use it to find content about "animal sex". Thryduulf (talk) 10:32, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Thryduulf: Understood. Keep/redirect/disambiguation is perhaps unnecessary. Perhaps we should let wikipedia do a "did you mean...?" spelling correction suggestion. -- 02:47, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • To a certain extent the search engine does this, but in this case it doesn't find anything in article space and even if it did search results are always inferior to being taken directly to the article your are looking for - which is why we have redirects from misspellings in the first place. Yes its possible we get it wrong for a minority of users, but this is no different to any other case where you make a misspelling that happens to be the correct name of another article (e.g. typing Lads or Lade when looking for Lada).
