Spingebill[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:20, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The edit summary says that Spingebill is an example of Youtube Poop, but if it's not mentioned at the target then this redirect is of little use. Delete unless a mention can be appropriately added to the target. signed, Rosguill talk 21:10, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. This does not seem to be a hoax, but the only independent sources I can find covering it are Urban Dictionary and a few Wikias; none of these are even remotely reliable. Without any reliable sources, a mention at the target cannot be added, and without a mention at the target, this is not a useful redirect. Glades12 (talk) 10:12, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. If anything, this redirect sounds like a counterfeit version of SpongeBob. Steel1943 (talk) 16:43, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • That's the point of the character. Glades12 (talk) 11:50, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ꦄꦏ꧀ꦱꦫꦗꦮ[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was speedy keep. It seems that this is an alternate spelling or minor misspelling of the name of the subject in Javanese signed, Rosguill talk 22:15, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can tell, this seems to be an error: "ꦄꦏ꧀ꦱꦫꦗꦮ" is not mentioned at the target article, nor does it have an article on Javanese Wikipedia. Unfortunately, that's about as thorough of a search I can do, since Javanese is not supported by Google Translate. It's possible that this is just another way to say "Javanese script" or "Javanese alphabet", but I have no way of verifying that. Delete unless a justification can be provided. signed, Rosguill talk 19:27, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Tentative Keep - If you look at the first line of Javanese script, it plainly says that Javanese script is "natively known as Aksara Jawa ((a)ꦏ꧀ꦱ(ksa)(ra)(ja)(wa))", thus the reason advanced for deletion in the nom seems to be easily addressed. However there may be other policies covering non-latin native redirects to articles about non-latin languages and scripts which I might be unaware of I suppose. Ben · Salvidrim!  21:35, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's not a match with the redirect title though: the last 5 characters are the same, but the first two letters in the redirect are not in that text. signed, Rosguill talk 22:09, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Upon further review, it seems like the character mismatch is between two different characters that can both produce the sound /a/ so I actually think that this redirect is fine. signed, Rosguill talk 22:14, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

New Coll[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. Consensus seems to be that this is certainly too ambiguous for its current target, but also probably too ambiguous even to redirect to New College as a disambiguation page. ~ mazca talk 02:22, 5 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This doesn't refer unambiguously to Newlands Collage, and can refer to any of a number of places known as New College. However, Newlands College doesn't really belong at that dab page, so I would lean towards deleting per WP:XY, although I think a case could be made for targeting to New College and adding Newlands College as a See also signed, Rosguill talk 19:22, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. There's no evidence that this is a commonly-used abbreviation for "Newlands College", and is likely ambiguous anyway. Ross Finlayson (talk) 22:10, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per WP:XY. Rubbish computer (Talk: Contribs) 11:32, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. This redirect is ambiguous and may cause confusion. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 14:28, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • delete as ambiguous synonym --Lenticel (talk) 01:04, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to New College. This seems like a reasonably unambiguous abbreviation for anything with that name. --BDD (talk) 17:55, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per the statements above about the ambiguity of the term "Coll", plus the fact that the article at Coll is about an island, so unless there is referenced evidence that "New Coll" specifically means something per sources, it's best to delete this redirect to allow Wikipedia's search function to do its job for anyone searching this phrase. Is there a better target? I see no sources for the meaning Designated hitter. The official name is "SQUARED CJK UNIFIED IDEOGRAPH-6307" but most sources call it "Reserved" (meaning that the topic being discussed is allocated, not that the code point is technically reserved for a future emoji). Reserved describes a retailer. Is dab Reserve a good option? Certes (talk) 09:39, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The emoji is also described as "Finger point". ja:指 (wikilinking that page breaks things) is the Japanese version of Finger. wikt:指 also translates the ideogram as "finger". wikt:🈯 lists "designated hitter" and "reserved" as meanings, which may be where the current target came from. Certes (talk) 11:50, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You can link it like this: [[:ja:指]]. Glades12 (talk) 12:15, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to wikt:🈯 where it is defined. This has no meaning in English, so I don't think there is an appropriate English article we can point this to. -- Tavix (talk) 14:28, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per WP:FORRED, unless the plan and consensus is to create and/or convert more foreign-language redirects into Wiktionary soft redirects ... which is against the concept of WP:FORRED. Steel1943 (talk) 17:45, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Also, , the non-emoji version of this redirect, does not exist. Steel1943 (talk) 19:09, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

1) There is no explanation on the final page why a redirect should lead to it.
2) There are many other meanings for the term (see discussion pages). The redirect is misleading.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Mike Somerset (talkcontribs) 05:30, 26 December 2019 (UTC) moved by SharabSalam (talk) 06:44, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This redirect seems unnecessary, given that The redirect Zheng Chenggong exists and it is actually incorrect to say “Zheng ChengGong“ instead of “Zheng Chenggong”. Nothing links to it, and incorrect in terms of the Chinese-English translation. The Lord of Math (Message; contribs) 12:18, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
