South Will Rise Again[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was disambiguate. Thanks to AngusWOOF for the legwork. --BDD (talk) 19:19, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A very prominent phrase in US culture that almost never refers to this particular TV episode. A possible target is Lost Cause of the Confederacy, but that article doesn't address the phrase. Perhaps there is elsewhere to target that is relevant? Oiyarbepsy (talk) 23:27, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If a target cannot be suggested/identified, then keep as redirect to Preacher (TV series). I'm not opposed to changing the redirect at some point, but if the phrase doesn't appear at Lost Cause of the Confederacy, then we shouldn't redirect readers there. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:31, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Update: I am fine with this edit and I've created South Will Rise Again (Preacher) as a different redirect. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:18, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see a handful of articles that reference the phrase, and as song titles along with South Shall Rise Again. Would be okay with Lost Cause if the term is detailed there. The Edson article is kind of vague as there isn't a clear bibliography of his works. If it is redirected to Lost Cause then the dab page should be created. • Disambiguate - This slogan (or something very similar to it) has been used by a lot of different entities during different times, and I also think that having a page created for it makes sense. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 20:14, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambiguate per CoffeeWithMarkets. Jjjjjjdddddd (talk) 23:14, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was Withdrawn. (non-admin closure) IffyChat -- 08:37, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I think this should be redirected to Kidd (American rapper) not to the disambiguation page Kidd which itself contains only one rapper entry. I tried to be Bold but .... do not understand the reason for the revert. PRehse (talk) 19:04, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. Redirect from a pagemove that lasted for one day in 2013 ~ Amory (utc) 20:11, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unclear what "BPS" is meant to represent. Steel1943 (talk) 16:24, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom as confusing and not explained in List of Tetris variants AngusWOOF (barksniff) 16:42, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment "BPS" would appear to stand for Bullet-Proof Software. 59.149.124.29 (talk) 02:43, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak Delete - Apparently, "BPS Tetris, which is the very first version of Tetris released on the Nintendo Famicom (or NES), was one of those games that would be featured on a variety of pirate multicarts that used to cost approximately $200 or so back in the day." See here. I could see us retargeting this to some future section in 'List of Tetris variants', true, but the BPS product is such a minor, trivial note in terms of gaming history that deletion appears to be the right decision. WONTFIX[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to Bugzilla#WONTFIX. Much obliged to Kvng ~ Amory (utc) 20:07, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"WONTFIX" describes the status of a bug that, although identified, will not be fixed for various reasons (that it would be too costly, break something else, etc.). That is tangentially related to Bugzilla, but it is really about any bug tracking system. However it is mentioned neither here nor there and I do not see a good place to develop it for now. TigraanClick here to contact me 19:43, 21 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete and delete lowercase Wontfix per nom. There's no good target. Widefox; talk 21:02, 21 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • It might be worth consideration to retarget this to Software_bug#Bug_management, which sadly currently lacks an explicit mention of "bugs that will never be fixed". If anyone wants to write something about "WONTFIX", it probably belongs there. If anyone is looking for information about "WONTFIX", this might be the most useful redirect we can currently offer. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:11, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Side note: I came across this discussion because I actually entered "WONTFIX" in Google to see if there is an article about it. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:12, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - I have added a stubby new section Bugzilla#WONTFIX as an appropriate redirect target. ~Kvng (talk) 11:23, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep or retarget or wiktionarify. Per User:Thryduulf, this term should be discussed...somewhere, not sure where. I agree with User:ToBeFree that this is not specific to Bugzilla, but if that's the only place it's currently mentioned, that's where the redirect should go. DMacks (talk) 13:16, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Do not delete please. There are other good options, and they don't need to be permanent. See my comment above ~ ToBeFree (talk) 13:20, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per WP:HEYMANN. With the addition of material by Kvng (thank you!), the redirect now has a good target in Bugzilla#WONTFIX. While the concept is broader that that of bugzilla, the section certainly gets the basic idea across and provides sources for further study. --Mark viking (talk) 16:54, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nicholas nasim Taleb and variants[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. -- Tavix (talk) 22:34, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

He is not known as Nicholas first and Nassim second. It's always the other way around Nassim Taleb in all news articles and journals. Also it would be unusual for searches to lower-case nassim yet capitalize Taleb. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 15:40, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: Implausible capitalization aside (see below), he is often listed as N. N. Taleb in articles/journals and often people will switch the two names when manually searching, including the "Nasim" with one "s" variants. I think it makes sense to Keep Nicholas nassim taleb, Nicholas Nassim taleb, Nicholas taleb, Nicholas Taleb, Nicholas Nasim Taleb, Nicholas Nasim taleb, Nicholas nasim taleb. I think that the others, while implausible, have some merit, but I don't have an opinion on them strong enough to !vote. (As a result, I don't see a need to comment on the below section either.) Is there some reason you didn't also nominate Nicholas Taleb, or did I miss something? - PaulT+/C 21:21, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If he's listed as N. N. Taleb then keep the initials version. People are not going to try to expand it and guess it wrong and if they are doing searches they will find the right one right away. So we don't need all these variants. Having a bunch of the backwards variants is only going to result in more wrongly listed searches showing up as possibilities and confuse the user into thinking there are two different people with the name. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 22:53, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure that I follow. If all the redirects in question point to the correct spelling, how is that going to be in any way confusing? Also, was the omission of Nicholas Taleb in this list deliberate or a mistake? If deliberate, I'd argue that Nicholas taleb should be kept for the same reason. - PaulT+/C 18:12, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you're typing in "Nassim N" you just get the main entry right away as a possible answer, but if you type "Nicholas Nas" you get 8 entries of all these capitalization variants, which is just a mess for searches. And with so many, it leads searchers to think Nicholas Nassim is the preferred common name, which it isn't in any of the news articles. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 14:17, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete Per Angus. These are poorly capitalized and incorrectly named — were it one and not the other, I'd be fine with it, but both such errors makes these seem unlikely. Also per Angus, I don't think someone frequently listed as NN makes it likely folks with intentionally search the incorrect name. ~ Amory (utc) 14:21, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete incorrect name, mostly bad capitilization too Galobtter (pingó mió) 15:45, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all. I just searched for "Nicholas Taleb" myself and navigated to nom "Nicholas taleb" but lo. The redirects already exist for the common confusables—the rest here are superfluous. czar 22:07, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Now that the album is out, this is no longer a likely search term. UnitedStatesian (talk) 01:59, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. The album has been out since December and has had a publicly known title for a couple of months longer than that so there is no longer any benefit in having this redirect. Thryduulf (talk) 10:28, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom as deprecated. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 16:40, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. In my opinion, I believe we should just blacklist any titles that begin with "Untitled" or "Upcoming" as nominating redirects such as these seems to be a perennial occurrence. Steel1943 (talk) 18:22, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • There are a couple of good reasons that a blacklist is not optimal; I am happy to regularly monitor and run the appropriate redirects from both groups through this process as I did on this one. (and look for a block of "Untitled" noms. from me soon) UnitedStatesian (talk) 19:32, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - I agree with the above arguments. It looks like this will be unanimous. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 20:19, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
