Template:User mariokart[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. Cheap, no harm. Thanks to Steel for tagging. ~ Amory (utc) 09:24, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Delete – The template was moved, and the redirect was made from the page move. The redirect was used on two user pages, which I changed; it is no longer used on any pages. Interqwark talk contribs 21:27, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom, housekeeping. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 17:23, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. The target page was at the redirect's title for nearly 9 years. In addition, this redirect is in the "Template:" namespace. where naming issues such as the one stated by the nomimattor do not apply, especially since (I'm not sure where I saw this. Steel1943 (talk) 13:43, 15 June 2018 (UTC)) There is no issue with the redirect's title targeting the page where the content moved. Steel1943 (talk) 06:06, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • During those nine years, it was only used on two pages. Now it’s not used on any pages anymore, so I don’t see the reason to keep it. Even though template names don’t follow standard article title guidelines, “User mariokart” isn’t a good name for a template. Interqwark talk contribs 10:31, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • What issues is this redirect creating by existing? Given that this redirect is in the "Template:" namespace, and it's not ambiguous, the chance for it to cause harm or be misleading is nonexistent. This redirect almost fits the bill entirely for "keep per WP:CHEAP". Steel1943 (talk) 12:57, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • John Cena! was in the "(article)" namespace, which has more scrutiny in regards to redirects and all titles should be useful in encyclopedic terms; "(article)" is the namespace used for articles and is the namespace used by nearly all non-editor Wikipedia readers. Internal namespaces of Wikipedia, however, are not subject to such title scrutiny. There is 0% harm with keeping this redirect since 1) it is not in the "(article)" namespace, 2) it was the former name of the target page for 9 years, 3) its title is not ambiguous. In addition, the primary reasoning nomination statement for deletion of the redirect is because you just orphaned all of its incoming links and transclusions, which in the related forum for templates WP:TFD ... which in discussions such as this one, is somewhat bad form because it essentially manipulates the page's current state to meet the nomination statement, which is misleading since the "orphaned" situation only existed since you orphaned it. Steel1943 (talk) 13:39, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Steel1943: I changed {{User mariokart}} to {{User Mario Kart Wii}} on two user pages after I moved the template; however, this was an accident. I meant to replace {{Mario kart}} with {{User Mario Kart Wii}}, as I did afterwards, since I changed its redirect target, and not changing it would put the Mario Kart navigational box on the two user pages that used the template.
Anyway, perhaps you’re right. The title may be misleading since it’s a user page template related to Mario Kart Wii, not Mario Kart, but I suppose it doesn’t have to be deleted. Interqwark talk contribs 15:15, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I’ve undone those edits of mine (#1, #2) now. Interqwark talk contribs 04:48, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • If a new userbox template were created that represented Mario Kart in general, I could see this redirect targeting there. But I mean in the current state, I just don't see the harm in it, especially considering the "9-years at this title" situation. Steel1943 (talk) 15:26, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'd expect to see an unused user template at WP:MFD, not here. If the target template were deleted, this question would be moot. Otherwise, why even specify Wii? We could have a single user template for Mario Kart fans, perhaps even with parameters that would let users show their preferred system. But again, I think the bigger question is "Do we want this template at all?" --BDD (talk) 15:13, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You didn't necessarily do anything wrong. We could delete the redirect but not the template if that's what we wanted to do. Would you rather discuss deletion of the template itself? --BDD (talk) 15:21, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@BDD: I don’t think that the template needs to be deleted. Interqwark talk contribs 15:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Steel1943. Deletion will not bring any benefits. Thryduulf (talk) 11:24, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - A reasonable shortcut (of sorts). — Godsy (TALKCONT) 02:51, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Manuela Carrasco[edit]

The result of the discussion was delete. ~ Amory (utc) 09:23, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. Nothing in the target article (English or Spanish version) suggests this person is known as Manuela. This is not a likely misspelling, and causes confusion with the dancer Manuela Carrasco, who could get an English article at some point. Nick Number (talk) 19:53, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep – As creator, I feel that this redirect is useful, and redirects are cheap. Having fun! Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 04:29, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Useful how? Is he widely known as Manuela? If not, are we going to create redirects for the male/female variant of every name? It's true redirects are cheap, but in this case it's harmful, as it could cause confusion with a different person who actually is called that. Nick Number (talk) 05:12, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as misleading. We don't have an article about the notable person with this name, so we should make that clear. Thryduulf (talk) 10:10, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete – It’s misleading, and this article may exist in the future, as you say. Interqwark talk contribs 10:21, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete for now until Manuela's article is created, after which it can have hatnotes to distinguish the two. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 21:01, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Garnish (food)#Korean garnishes. ~ Amory (utc) 09:29, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Delete per WP:FORRED. The subject of the target article is not exclusive to the Korean language. Steel1943 (talk) 18:50, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The article had a section about Korean garnishes so it may be appropriate in this case if the redirect is lined to that particular section.--76.65.41.59 (talk) 02:53, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, BDD (talk) 17:40, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It still has that section Garnish_(food)#Korean_garnishes AngusWOOF (barksniff) 21:13, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Desposito[edit]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Esposito. ~ Amory (utc) 09:28, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Created via AfC, but that feels a bit hoax-ish. This is a surname, and we have an article on a Pablo Despósito. The s vs. c seems a plausible error for "Despacito", but not o vs. a. Where does this leave us, though? Retarget, disambiguate, delete? --BDD (talk) 17:38, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per WP:RTYPO multiple typos. It would have to be shown to be used in news articles to be a common typo for the song. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 21:24, 13 June 2018 (UTC) updated 21:05, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Mr Despósito. — This, that and the other (talk) 02:37, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Who's Mr Despósito? AngusWOOF (barksniff) 21:02, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I assume Pablo Despósito, cited in my nomination statement. --BDD (talk) 22:09, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Weak retarget to Esposito as D'Esposito is described as a surname there. Interqwark, would that be okay? AngusWOOF (barksniff) 21:05, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's certainly a possibility. We'd want to add Pablo Despósito there. --BDD (talk) 22:09, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@AngusWOOF: What’s a weak retarget? Interqwark talk contribs 10:33, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Any time you state a position in a Wikipedia discussion, you can call it "weak". Less commonly, you can see things like "very weak", "strong", etc. It's an optional way of signaling to others how strongly you feel about a position. For example, you might say "weak delete" in a situation where you think something should probably be deleted, but you could live with it, especially if consensus is going the other way. And of course, since our votes are just ways of structuring discussion, rather than a formal election, what you say matters more than how you choose to label it. --BDD (talk) 15:20, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@BDD: Ah, thanks. I always thought that weak deletes, weak retargets, etc. were different types of deletes, retargets, etc. Interqwark talk contribs 15:21, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
