February 25[edit]

This is a list of redirects that have been proposed for deletion or other action on February 25, 2018.

List of Khowar-language writers[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. Unopposed. -- Tavix (talk) 20:16, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No relevant content in the target article. Both redirects were previously lists, which were very short and all the entries (except one) that they have ever had were either redlinks or links to articles subsequently deleted at AfD. Given how small the Khowar-language community is, and how limited its literary activities are (the main language for written communication there is Urdu), it is unlikely that in the foreseeable future we will have enough articles to warrant such lists. – Uanfala (talk) 22:50, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was keep. As retargeted to #Implementations of Monero ~ Amory (utc) 11:33, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No value and this redirect is useless. The resulting redirected article talks nothing about Coinhive. 2A02:C7F:963F:BA00:F0E4:E7FB:6914:F2A8 (talk) 20:27, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep I created that redirect because the paragraph mentions what Coinhive does (generate Monero using a web browser). However, the paragraph that Coinhive links too is not 100% about "illicit use" so I renamed the paragraph. --Frmorrison (talk) 15:59, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep/change refinination to #Implementations of Monero - mentioned and explained in target Galobtter (pingó mió) 09:52, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Vietnamese tiger[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. -- Tavix (talk) 20:16, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Term not present in target article: no evidence that this is a useful redirect. The fact that tigers are found in Vietnam does not justify using this term unless it can be shown that it is used in reliable sources. (We don't talk about "English hedgehog" just because they are found in England) PamD 12:06, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Now it is there, for the name "Vietnamese tiger" was used, in the same context as that of Tiger Cub Economies. Leo1pard (talk) 13:41, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If "Vietnamese tiger" is being used as a term in economics, it should redirect to Tiger Cub Economies. The reader looking for that sense of the term will not be helped by the biological article to which the redirect leads them. But "Vietnamese tiger" isn't mentioned in Tiger Cub Economies. As things stand, this redirect is still unhelpful. The newly-added "Cultural significance" section in Indochinese tiger was not about Panthera tigris tigris but about economic terminology and the addition of "geog term" + "tiger"; not at all the same thing, so I have reverted it. PamD 08:26, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment A bunch of tiger subspecies have been lumped recently. Searching for "Vietnamese tiger"+corbetti (or corbettii) yields some results. Most sources using "Vietnamese tiger" are Vietnamese; it seems to be a national pride thing. Not sure we need an English language redirect to account for a few English-language Vietnamese sources. Plantdrew (talk) 15:46, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was Withdrawn. Retargeted to Physical comparison of tigers and lions#Males ~ Amory (utc) 11:42, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Term not found in target article: no evidence that this is a useful redirect. PamD 12:04, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That was before the section in which the name of Henry Clay Foster was found became an article of its own, so it can instead be redirected to the new article. Leo1pard (talk) 13:21, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Leo1pard: So why didn't you do so yourself? Have now retargetted the redirect (to a section where he is mentioned so briefly that I don't really think it worthwhile, but never mind), so I Withdraw the nomination. PamD 08:20, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That is because I did not create the new article, but someone else did, and I forgot about Foster's link. Leo1pard (talk) 09:18, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

We don't need a redirect from the possessive form of every surname represented in the encyclopedia - harmless but a poor precedent. PamD 11:29, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. It's a little worse than harmless as it creates the expectation that there is some sort of brand (or a corner shop or whatever) with that name, and nothing of that kind seems to be described at the target. – Uanfala (talk) 17:58, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Acronym (or miscapitalised word?) not mentioned anywhere in Wikipedia. No idea what this means. Can't find it anywhere on the Internet except in probabilistically-generated word salad spam and Google Books OCR errors. 59.149.124.29 (talk) 10:36, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

St. Joseph's High School, Mysore[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was PROD the target. Blargh. I'm tired of this redirect. As Eureka Lott points out, it hasn't been properly tagged. As everyone knows, the page history/usurpations is complex and confusing and it's not clear the target should exist. I've PROD'd the target, so in the interest of process let's just leave this redirect until that's decided. ~ Amory (utc) 12:04, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Delete St. Joseph's High School, Mysore as implausible/impossible redirect to St Joseph's Primary School, Mysore (see [1]). I may have screwed up in trying to consolidate nearly identical school names.. Quis separabit? 22:44, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment The high school isn't a redirect at the moment. Can you clean up what you want to do with the two articles first? The high school one is a stub, and the primary school one is undergoing some sort of histmerge? AngusWOOF (barksniff) 19:00, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: The target article is an almost duplicate of http://mdes.co.in/st-josephs-primary-school-jayalakshmipuram-mysuru. I'm considering tagging it as a WP:COPYVIO, but I'm not 100% convinced since the wording is slightly different. Steel1943 (talk) 18:11, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
...I mean, considering the amount of content that is currently in that article, the similarities are quite close. The article is not nearly as long as the web page I linked, but the entirety of the article almost mirrors what is on that web site by almost half. Steel1943 (talk) 18:16, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • It appears there is a high school, but can't find when it was founded; you appear to have changed the high school to a primary school. Primary school would anyway be not notable and so should be redirected to Mysore. Galobtter (pingó mió) 06:25, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete as there aren't any high schools in Mysore that have shown notability to be listed on the Mysore article outside of a few pioneering ones. Public or private school district articles could be developed if notable. The primary school can go through its own AFD if not notable. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 17:57, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • There are so many problems here, I'm not sure where to begin.
  • The article was originally about a high school before it was rewritten as an article about a primary school of dubious notability.
  • As User:Steel1943 points out, the current version is perilously close to being a copyright violation.
  • The article could be reverted and moved back, but according to the Mysore Diocesan Educational Society, there are four high schools with similar names: St. Joseph's School in Jayalakshmipuram, Mysore, St. Joseph's High School in Rajivnaga, Mysore, St. Joseph's Central School in Vijayanagar, Mysore and St. Joseph's Central School in Yelwal, Mysore.
  • It might be best to delete both the redirect and its target and start over.
  • While the redirect has been listed here for almost a month, it wasn't tagged until now. It may be necessary to relist it yet again. - Eureka Lott 01:10, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The most important designers are noted in the article, but there is not a straight up list of them. Redirect implies something different than what exists. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 16:09, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete There's no specific list of designers that needs to be compiled. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 16:57, 7 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget/Keep It points to the Design section, which goes rather into depth on the process and yes, designers themselves. That section links to Category:Final Fantasy designers, which, incidentally, is where this redirect pointed before it was changed four years in (and seven years ago). As such, I'm in favor of restoring the redirect to the category, or at least keeping it as-is, which gives more prose and provides the category link (one extra click/pageload). ~ Amory (utc) 16:40, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of term in target article; no indication of usefulness of redirect. PamD 19:10, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi PamD. I made the redirect. The term "Dorchester Atheneum" is mentioned 15 times in Dorchester, Boston, including in External links (the other 14 are in refs). Disclaimer: I have never been to Dorchester. DadaNeem (talk) 19:43, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@DadaNeem: It's not mentioned in the text of the article, only as source of some references. For the redirect to be useful the article needs to tell us something about the Atheneum. Is it an organisation, a newspaper, a building, or what? Actually it seems to be a website, operated by one person, so may not even be a WP:RS - see here. We wouldn't usually redirect from the name of a website just because it's been cited in an article. There was apparently (same source) a library of that name briefly in the 19th century but it's not mentioned in the article. PamD 20:03, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment Well, back after Perseus Books Group bought Basic Books (which had a "Basic Civitas" imprint) and before they sold the Counterpoint imprint, they published a few books under a Civitas/Counterpoint joint imprint. If we had sources, Civitas Counterpoint would probably be a reasonable {{R from incorrect name}}+{{R avoided double redirect}}, given that the spaced form appears even in printed citations. But it seems to require borderline WP:OR to be able to mention anything about this situation in an article; Perseus don't discuss it on their own website, and secondary sources don't mention it either. The only verification I can find that this was even ever a thing is the books themselves that say "Civitas/Counterpoint", e.g. [2]. 59.149.124.29 (talk) 06:03, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
