Smoke and Fire[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was dabify. --BDD (talk) 18:41, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This redirect is no longer appropriate, as I'm assuming it's a non-notable song and Sabrina Carpenter has a single with the same title now, so it's confusing (WP:XY). – nyuszika7h (talk) 13:13, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Disambiguate to both places, as disambiguating is a way to solve the WP:XY problem. Include a see also to Smoke or Fire and Fire and Smoke (perhaps there's a primary topic, but I haven't investigated that at all). -- Tavix (talk) 14:23, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambiguate to both targets. --Animalparty! (talk) 00:26, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I thought disambiguation pages are only supposed to be created when there's at least some blue-linked articles, but I guess I was wrong. nyuszika7h (talk) 08:16, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget - It seems like there's a clear-cut primary target case given that the pop single is at least more well-known if not more notable. We have the song mentioned at Sabrina_Carpenter#Singles. We can add a hat-note if desired (no objections to that). CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 11:22, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambiguate since an editor is willing to do that. Can't really compare the long-term significance of both singles. SSTflyer 11:03, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Keeling Island[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. Withdrawn by nominator. (non-admin closure) SSTflyer 11:07, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

(Neelix redirect) Not sure. The C (K) Islands are more than one island, but "North Keeling Island is an atoll consisting of just one C-shaped island", so perhaps it should be retargeted there? Since nothing is called just plain "Keeling Island" this is a bit WP:RFD#D5 nonsense (or WP:XY) and perhaps better to leave it to a search. Si Trew (talk) 08:15, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep Even if it's incorrect, Cocos (Keeling) Islands seem to be far and away the primary topic here. I didn't find much else in my search. Outside the C (K)s, the only other topics I could find was a book entitled From Heligoland to Keeling Island: One Hundred Days of Naval War and an island in Alabama. -- Tavix (talk) 13:47, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - This seems like a reasonable mistake, and redirects don't have to be completely accurate, just helpful, after all. We also have Barac Obama and many other one-accidentally-lost-letter-off type redirects.. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 11:28, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • OK, speedily withdrawn as Keep. Thanks both for the sanity check. Si Trew (talk) 05:14, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

DFQ[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. --BDD (talk) 18:34, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"DFQ" isn't mentioned at the target, making the connection unclear. -- Tavix (talk) 00:04, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - I'm seeing the term "DFQ" being used as a short reference to differential equations. There are examples here and here. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 03:16, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure about this. While there's nothing sketchy or wrong looking there, this appears to be non-standard as far as mathematics instruction goes (personally, though it's been a while now, I don't remember a reference to "DFQ" in either the post-grad or regular college courses that I've taken). CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 03:23, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The only abbreviation I've heard of for differential equations is 'diff eq'. I don't doubt DFQ has been used before, but I don't think it's a strong enough connection for a redirect. -- Tavix (talk) 13:55, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: can be re-created if the term is added reliably sourced, to any article. PamD 12:25, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete also seeing this as an acronym for Design For Quality. [1] [2] ODE and PDE are notable though. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 02:08, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - I'm not seeing a coherent enough meaning here, and it looks like deletion really is the best move then. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 11:13, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete due to vagueness. It seems to be the abbreviation of the chemical desfluoroquinolone as well --Lenticel (talk) 02:55, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Searches also give me Internet slang for somewhat less polite initialisms, but we don't seem to have it on Internet slang (<- List of Internet Slang) or anywhere else. Si Trew (talk) 05:16, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambiguate because this can be an acronym for multiple topics. SSTflyer 10:55, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
But as far as I can tell we don't have those topics, we don't have Design for Quality for example, so I am not sure what the DAB would look like... Si Trew (talk) 12:09, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
