Joe Riley (footballer)[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to Joe Riley, {{R from incomplete disambiguation}}. -- Tavix (talk) 21:28, 10 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Per Wikipedia:Partially disambiguated page names, this partial disambiguation should not be used to redirect to a specific article, as neither footballer is the primary topic of Joe Riley. Instead it should redirect to Joe Riley (disambiguation). Joseph2302 (talk) 22:07, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Support – We should make sure that there are no current links to "Joe Riley (footballer)", because some links may still point their being the original article title for one of the footballers. When all links has been sorted, it should instead redirect to "Joe Riley" ("Joe Riley (disambiguation)" is a redirect itself to "Joe Riley"). Qed237 (talk) 22:17, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. --BDD (talk) 21:01, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

RODHAM[edit]

The result of the discussion was keep. (non-admin closure) -- Tavix (talk) 21:09, 10 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WP:RCAPS: Not an abbreviation and lacking affinity. Software automatically redirects all-cap titles to titles with no-extra-caps (first letter is always capitalized), so the redirect is useless. Godsy(TALKCONT) 04:33, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Mexicp[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete all. A 2:1 majority favouring deletion in general requires the closing admin to take action unless there's a particularly compelling argument from the minority. My reading of the discussion below is that the arguments for keeping the redirects are self-admittedly weaker, based on WP:CHEAP; whereas the arguments for deletion argued a more policy-grounded case of why {{R from misspelling}} shouldn't apply and how these redirects have been made unnecessary by the latest Wikipedia search box. Deryck C. 23:54, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Typo redirects based on proximity of other letter keys on a standard qwerty keyboard. Mexici and Jerset are red (broon is a disambiguation of other meanings), which are left on the keyboard as opposed to right. I remember discussions on similar redirects in the past, but I can't recall how they've went. Godsy(TALKCONT) 04:24, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak keep WP:CHEAP {{R from typo}} , QWERTY keyboards are the defacto standard keyboards for the English language world; WP:OTHERSTUFF Just because other typos are redlinked is not a reason for deletion; the comma key "," is not next to the "n" key, so it is not relevant that "broon" is also an article, in a proximity typo context, since the key next to "n" is "m"/"b" and not "," -- 70.51.46.39 (talk) 05:01, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, junk redirects that are unnecessary with a good search engine. Broo, can just as easily be Brook since the k is on top of the comma, for example. -- Tavix (talk) 05:10, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • Forgot to mention something along the lines of your first point: the search engine already suggests the targets which the redirects point to.Godsy(TALKCONT) 05:16, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agreed. Just to play around some more, I could argue that Mexicp is actually a typo for Mexica since the a and p are visually similar letters. Jerseu could be someone attempting to spell Jerusalem, but gave up after they couldn't figure out where the u went. -- Tavix (talk) 13:25, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete I don't think that "R from misspelling" should apply here. This is not made explicit on the template documentation, but I read it as being from plausible, intentional misspellings. For instance, I might conceivably think that "Orleans" was spelled "Orleens"; but not that it is spelled "Prleans." So, the first redirect should exist, but not the second. Extending that logic, none of these redirects are actually serving any constructive purpose; if somebody actually typed "Mexicp", they can correct themselves easily enough. Vanamonde93 (talk) 06:28, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep the easy typos in terms of 'Jersey' and 'Mexico', as redirects are cheap and these are reasonable enough mistakes, while deleting the 'Broo,' redirect since it could be either Brook or Broom equally. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 06:32, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all per Vanamonde93. Plausible typos are for those likely to be misspelled for some valid reason, not for every conceivable keying error. Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 15:42, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all per Ivanvector. Steel1943 (talk) 16:54, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • keep first two per WP:CHEAP, delete Broo,. MB298 (talk) 01:04, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all per Vanamonde93. We shouldn't be promoting the "it doesn't matter if you make mistakes" attitude. Jeh (talk) 21:16, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Vague: Hillary Coast, Hillary Carlip, Hillary Chute..... Disambiguation is unnecessary for this page title: Any other case of name and initial combinations could be done this way, and as multiple subjects generally exist (except for rare cases when subjects are notably known in this manner), it is unsuitable.
