Alaska City, Alaska[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to Anchorage, Alaska. --BDD (talk) 15:53, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. I think this redirect should be deleted, because there is no Alaska City, and this points to a list of cities, so I think it is plausible readers could think the wrong thing, since it is titled like an article on a city would be. MelanieLamont (talk) 15:12, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - WP:RFD#D2, target does not discuss an "Alaska City, Alaska" because none exists. Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 17:27, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Anchorage, Alaska. According to this book, Anchorage held an election in 1915 in which a plurality of residents voted to change the name of the city to "Alaska City." However, the government refused to change the name. I have updated the article for Anchorage, Alaska to include a brief summary of the attempts to rename the city "Alaska City", so readers won't be surprised when they are directed there. -- Notecardforfree (talk) 17:52, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per Notecardforfree - what a find! Kind of like Oklahoma City or Kansas City, thereby ensuring that your town becomes the biggest in the state. Nom was spot on though otherwise. Legacypac (talk) 19:13, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You're close... The "biggest" city in Kansas is Wichita, unless we're counting Metropolitan areas. Even then, most of the Kansas City metro is in Missouri... On the other side of the coin, places like Florida City and Tennessee City barely register on the map! (I know it was probably a hyperbole, but I couldn't resist spreading the fun facts!) -- Tavix (talk)
  • Retarget per NCFF, great job of digging up this nugget! (gold rush pun?) Earlier, I had noticed that Anchorage was the original target before Beeblebrox retargeted it in 2014, and had noticed a correlation in my Google search, but was unable to connect the dots. I'm glad to see that there is, in fact, a connection. -- Tavix (talk) 19:14, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
As far as rcats go, would {{R from historic name}} be appropriate? -- Tavix (talk) 19:31, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
{{R from historic name}} has a very narrow scope note. I doubt I've used it more than once or twice, if at all. However, I also doubt the 1000+ uses of it really fit that scope note, so perhaps it should be changed. I assigned {{R from former name}}, though that might not really be accurate either. --BDD (talk) 15:53, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per NCFF. Well done! Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 19:16, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • My previous retargeting was due to this discussion. At the time, nobody could come up with a ref for the name, including @RadioKAOS: who seems to usually know about these things. Since one has been found and an explanation added to the article I certainly have no objection to retargeting it back to the appropriate section of the Anchorage article. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:27, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Good work! The book also tells of some other proposed names, maybe they should be noted and redirected. MelanieLamont (talk) 20:09, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Delete as an outdated redirect since "Levi's Stadium" is no longer a "proposed" stadium, but fully operational. -- Tavix (talk) 15:07, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete and encourage article creation. Deryck C. 17:29, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The redirects are of a single building in the cities and do not concern the cities at large. Articles about the buildings could possibly be written later since the buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Dudemanfellabra (talk) 08:44, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The high school redirects are placeholders. They should be kept. --bender235 (talk) 14:42, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Delete as nonsense. I've read the entire page trying to figure out what this could be, and couldn't figure it out. There's literally nothing there that could be "QW." -- Tavix (talk) 06:29, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete as per nom CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 07:42, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. QuickWeb? Quote Wikipedia? Dunno. It's the first two letters on the QWERTY keyboard, maybe that has something to do with it. Side note: this is an interesting table of all possible two- and three-letter shortcuts, but it takes a lot of processing power if you have linkclassifier and popups enabled. Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 17:32, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sadly, it seems I'm not iconic enough to merit Wikipedia:BDD. --BDD (talk) 15:46, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete it was created as a double redir through WP:MIRROR, I fixed it after just over an hour, don't recall what attracted my attention. Perhaps Qw is for Qwika.com. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:08, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Startingly[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete "Startingly"; procedural close others as it seems that we're heading towards solutions that don't require deletion. Feel free to trout-slap me and unbundle-relist if you think we should actually delete. Deryck C. 22:45, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Neelix redirects that bear closer examination. Legacypac (talk) 06:28, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete the first two while keeping the last one, which is an obscure but seemingly valid medical term (see uses in medicine-related books here and here). There may need to be a re-targeting to some alternate medical article, though. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 07:37, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Startingly. Keep Spasmodics; the article for Spasmodic poets uses the word "Spasmodics" in reference to George Gilfillan's "encouragement of the young Spasmodics." I'm not really sure what to do with Spasmology, though my intuition tells me that spasm may be a less surprising target. As for Spasmodic, Spasm includes a hatnote that directs readers to the article for Spasmodic poets. -- Notecardforfree (talk) 09:11, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Park Seung Ho[edit]

Delete Wp:XY: could be a typo/misspelling for either Park Seong-ho or Paik Seung-ho. Additionally, there's various folks who actually have this name & might be notable (see ko:박승호); this redirect interferes with searches for mentions of those people on English Wikipedia, and could be WP:R#D2 confusing as well. 58.176.246.42 (talk) 05:48, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Delete, inter-language soft redirects are generally considered unhelpful. -- Tavix (talk) 00:44, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nominator and also Wp:XY. ISO 15924 codes are for scripts, not languages; there are multiple Wikipedia editions written using these scripts (simplified and traditional Chinese characters, respectively). 58.176.246.42 (talk) 04:23, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
IPs can't vote, though. 333-blue 13:07, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as pseudo-namespace redirects, and tag as such. Traditional Chinese (hant) and Simplified Chinese (hans) are the ways of writing Chinese language (zh) so these virtual language codes lead to the correct place. Even though they are script codes, the script codes are only used for Chinese language text -- 70.51.46.39 (talk) 06:40, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete both. First, IPs can vote. However, this redirect is entirely useless and unhelpful to any English speaker who comes across it. If this is some code that represents Chinese, then you could maybeee argue a redirect to Chinese language or script. But, Hans is a common name in Germany, so a redirect to anything about Chinese makes no sense at all. Hant doesn't seem to refer to anything. Oiyarbepsy (talk) 14:17, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete both in particular per 58.176, who is of course always welcome to !vote. Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 17:35, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
