Butt's Ridge, New Jersey[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep, though I would encourage someone to add information to the target article about this former name, lest we see these nominated again. --BDD (talk) 14:08, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unable to find any evidence to support the existence of a New Jersey place called "Butt's Ridge". Having this as a redirect is misleading. Magnolia677 (talk) 03:52, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete But (no pun) we have plenty of places in New England, and a bit further south on the Eastern US seaboard, that start with a name and end in Ridge. We have Wood Ridge for example. Ridge, I think, meaning just a kinda slope or valley, is a very American word, in the sense that it is one of those words that has been kept in US English but lost in British English. The The Trail of the Lonesome Pine (song), for example would in Br. Eng. be called the Blue Valley Mountains of Queen Elizabeth I or something. It is hardly an uncommon word. As a geographical place name, not sure, has it just been thrown in by some slapdash cartographer editing placenames a GPS map? Someone's going to get lost, then, and not just me... surely the most reliable source would be the US Board of Geographic Names... Si Trew (talk) 06:15, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Comment. Don't Calvin and Hobbes always take their philosophical buggy down Butt's Ridge? Si Trew (talk) 06:23, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Huh? You created the redirect in the first place? Magnolia677 (talk) 03:56, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It is a typo as I found it in reading, what's the big deal? --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 04:54, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's a case of confusion since you were calling to delete a rediret that you crated,--67.68.208.63 (talk) 03:57, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hahaha not sure why you say "obvious". That required a bit of noodle between me ears! Si Trew (talk) 22:34, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. With Alansohn's info, I think it's reasonable to assume it's a typo, so I change my !vote. In the meantime, as usual not to prejudice this discussion, I'll mark it as {{R from typo}}. Si Trew (talk) 07:03, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
