Butt's Ridge, New Jersey → Blairstown, New Jersey (links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/delete ]

Unable to find any evidence to support the existence of a New Jersey place called "Butt's Ridge". Having this as a redirect is misleading. Magnolia677 (talk) 03:52, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

~~Delete~~ But (no pun) we have plenty of places in New England, and a bit further south on the Eastern US seaboard, that start with a name and end in Ridge. We have Wood Ridge for example. Ridge, I think, meaning just a kinda slope or valley, is a very American word, in the sense that it is one of those words that has been kept in US English but lost in British English. The The Trail of the Lonesome Pine (song), for example would in Br. Eng. be called the Blue Valley Mountains of Queen Elizabeth I or something. It is hardly an uncommon word. As a geographical place name, not sure, has it just been thrown in by some slapdash cartographer editing placenames a GPS map? Someone's going to get lost, then, and not just me... surely the most reliable source would be the US Board of Geographic Names... Si Trew (talk) 06:15, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

~~Delete~~Keep / Create for Butts / Butt's / Butts' Bridge (with a "B") I haven't found "Butt's Ridge" anywhere, but there are ample sources for several variations of "Butts Bridge", "Butts Bridge", "Butts' Bridge, Butt's Bridge, Butts' Bridge and "Butt's Bridge". It may well be possible to create a standalone article for "Butts / Butt's / Butts' Bridge", but until then we should use the newly created redirects for Butts Bridge, New Jersey, Butt's Bridge, New Jersey and Butts' Bridge, New Jersey, all redirecting to Blairstown, New Jersey. With a half-dozen sources, the absence of entries in GNIS or NJ Localities Search is irrelevant. Alansohn (talk) 18:50, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
