Scott Cawthon[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. --BDD (talk) 13:44, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Redirecting an article about FNAF's creator to the FNAF article isn't considered very plausible. Doesn't meet R3 because it was created some time ago. ToonLucas22 (talk) 23:37, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak delete (to encourage article creation) I presume it was used to be a WP:BLP1E issue (for just FNAF1), but three crazy popular games in and his significance might use some reconsidering. "Weak" because Cawthon's significance still mainly stands with only the FNAF series. 野狼院ひさし u/t/c 12:33, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • delete per WP:REDLINK. Tavix |  Talk  16:03, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • delete per WP:REDLINK. It is plausible that an article about the creator can be developed in the future. --Lenticel (talk) 01:58, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. This word means ‘language’ in obsolete Arabic orthographies for Turkmen and Uzbek. There is no reason to redirect it to one language’s article over the other’s, and the word does not mean either language anyway, but just language in general. Also, three of these characters are presentation forms, which should not be used. Gorobay (talk) 20:55, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Note: User changed his vote below. Tavix |  Talk  20:12, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as confusing per nom - there are multiple likely targets. I think that we normally don't create non-English disambiguation pages, and the general topic of language is not especially any language. I don't know what "presentation forms" means but if they should not be used, then they should not be used. Ivanvector (talk) 00:10, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • Presentation forms are glyphs for specific shapes of Arabic characters depending on position in the word. The better and more modern approach is to use the same character in all positions and let the font take care of the different positional glyphs. Gorobay (talk) 11:28, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete if the term had specifically said "Turkmen language" then it could have been kept. However, this is merely a non-English word for a general term. --Lenticel (talk) 00:21, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom -- 65.94.43.89 (talk) 03:45, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Delete I think by "presentation forms" is meant that in a complex script such as Arabic script you have front, middle and tail forms. (We all do it in handwriting), but typesetters have kinda formalised it.) However, this is still a bit of nonsense. WP:RFD#D5 nonsense. Si Trew (talk) 07:14, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Confusing and arbitrary. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tideflat (talkcontribs) 02:05, 22 March 2015‎ (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete A language (not specified which) has no affinity with Turkmen. If it says "Turkmen" in Turkmen then keep. 野狼院ひさし u/t/c 12:40, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as unhelpful. Is it snowing yet? Tavix |  Talk  20:12, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Leverage[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was withdrawn. Please see Talk:Leverage (disambiguation)#Requested move 19 March 2015. (non-admin closure) Ivanvector (talk) 19:13, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed as part of a different discussion that this redirect used to be a disambiguation page, but it was redirected some time ago to a topic which does not appear to be the primary topic. Since then, users have tried to redirect to the dab page a couple times, but this is improper per WP:MALPLACED. Google shows a mixed bag of results, with a slight preference for finance, but since I work in finance I assume this is skewed. I think that the dab page is better, and I would like to delete the redirect to make way for moving the dab page back (also per WP:MALPLACED). Ivanvector (talk) 14:47, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment. This should be a WP:RM to move the dab to the base name (with notification to Talk:Mechanical advantage. If that move request succeeds, the redirect would be deleted as a matter of course. There's no point in deleting this redirect without moving the dab (or other page) to it. -- JHunterJ (talk) 18:06, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, this is effectively a move proposal. I tend to believe that it doesn't particularly matter where some discussions take place as long as people who are likely to be interested are aware of them, but process is process. I will close this and do a move proposal instead. Ivanvector (talk) 19:11, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Horse and cart[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was Snowball retartget to horse-drawn vehicle(non-admin closure)

Retarget but not sure where. Carthorse redirects to Horse. "Cart" is far too general, so is "Horse". Si Trew (talk) 09:05, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Suggesting Horse-drawn vehicle. Si Trew (talk) 09:11, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If you wonder why I'm listing it, is cos basically they go in totally different directions (as indeed do the horse and the cart, if you're not careful). And actually a horse is the only animal you're allowed to hammer a nail into. Si Trew (talk) 09:15, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict)*retarget to Horse-drawn vehicle since horses pulling carts are discussed there. I'm also getting hits that this phrase also means fart which doesn't make sense. --Lenticel (talk) 09:18, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'll look at fart and report back. Can't see why that would be a typo. Sorry for the ec Si Trew (talk) 09:21, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Probably from Cockney Rhyming SlangRhyming Slang, Lenticel. Si Trew (talk) 09:23, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think Eric Partridge has it in his seminal work Dictionary of British Slang, 1936. I haven't a copy here, only Usage and Abusage, which is extremely boring. H. W. Fowler is far more entertaining. Si Trew (talk) 09:31, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

*Comment. There is a song, sung by Max Bygraves, called Fings Ain't Wot They Used T'Be. In bottom of second verse it says "you can't pull the horse before the cart"... Written and composed by Lionel Bart. 09:39, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Strike that, completely the wrong song. Same composer and singer but "You've godda have heart".Si Trew (talk) 10:37, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think You've godda have heart, miles and miles and miles of heart. Oh it's nice to be a genius, of course, but leave that old horse before the cart, still you have to have heart". Then up on the brass. (Careful with the banjos). I used to like a little fiddle with my wife, but she had other ideas... Si Trew (talk) 10:46, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Haha there is only one of me. I may be manic depressive but I am not schizophrenic :) Si Trew (talk) 15:28, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Actually, I know this is rather ex post facto, but I can see how Fart and Cart could be typos since they are on the same left hand (index) finger on most keyboard layouts. But more inclined to thnk it is likelier as rhyming slang. Si Trew (talk) 13:29, 23 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was withdrawing my deletion nomination, creating a WP:SNOW consensus to retarget to Dream Girl (TV series). (non-admin closure) Tavix |  Talk  19:30, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WP:RFD#DELETE #10: "If the redirect could plausibly be expanded into an article, and the target article contains virtually no information on the subject." Tavix |  Talk  08:33, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We have this in the Times of India online edition. Perhaps WP:NOTNEWS? Si Trew (talk) 08:48, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Comment. Does the title refer to Diwali? I am not good on Indian languages. Si Trew (talk) 10:42, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was keep. --BDD (talk) 13:42, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He is the play-by-play announcer for the Tampa Bay Lightning. It should be a WP:REDLINK until an article is created. Tavix |  Talk  06:25, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. He is mentioned in the article (actually, linked, so that's rather a circular link). Perhaps {{R to section}} "Radio and Televion", and anchor. Si Trew (talk) 08:11, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Refine per Si Trew. Thryduulf (talk) 21:38, 23 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
