Irregular redirects to redirect templates[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. It may be useful to recreate a few of these as redirects to maintenance templates. --BDD (talk) 21:57, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Each of these redirects is to a redirect template (a template with a title beginning with the standard prefix "Template:R" that categorises redirects), yet each has a title that neither begins with "Template:R" nor the expanded form, "Template:Redirect". These are the only such redirects as far as I have been able to find; their existence is completely nonstandard among redirects to redirect templates, and all of the many other redirects to redirect templates begin with either "Template:R" or "Template:Redirect", as they should. This is the standard naming scheme of such redirects, and it specifies that they can be used as Rcats to place redirects into categories. Since the redirects listed above are missing this specification in their titles, their format is completely inconsistent. In addition to this improper format, the eleventh redirect listed above uses an uncommon misspelling of the word "capitalisation", and the twelfth redirects inappropriately to {{R from long name}} rather than {{R from short name}}. These redirects have all been created by the same editor, Robertgreer (talk), who apparently did not have much experience with redirect templates at the time he created these redirects. Not a single redirect currently uses or links to any of these Rcat templates. Because of the irregularity of these redirects' names, as well as their non-usage, they should be deleted. — |J~Pæst|  00:42, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete all per nom — 76.65.128.222 (talk) 03:58, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep all and retarget Template:Short name unless specific better targets for any of them can be found. I agree with the nominator that these aren't especially useful, but they're not implausible as alternative names either, and aside from the single misnamed one I can't see how they do any harm. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 20:52, 6 July 2013 (UTC) Delete all per This, that and the other. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 22:31, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all. Template redirects are an extreme nuisance for bots and scripts. While some template redirects are arguably necessary (former names and common alternative names, for instance), any redirects that are obscure and/or unused should just be deleted. Anyone who objects to this line of reasoning should try writing a decent bot or script! — This, that and the other (talk) 01:08, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. There is no reason to keep Rcats when they aren't even labeled as such. They only cause unwanted clutter and confusion.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.92.226.185 (talk) 17:29, July 8, 2013‎
  • Delete all – JPæst and This, that and the other give what should be—if not already—the official policy on naming redirect templates. Simplicity, consistency, and compatibility outweigh any purported convenience they might have. All redirect templates should be in the {{R from ...}} pattern. Senator2029 ➔ “Talk” 11:39, 10 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep all. Convenience to the editors who apply templates to pages (including those of us who still remember the old conventions before the "R from..." pattern became popular) outweighs the burden to a few bot and script writers. Tag them all with one of the {{unprintworthy}} tags so the bots can ignore them. Rossami (talk) 21:30, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note: For those of you who might not have as much experience with redirect templates, the category All redirect templates currently lists a (growing) total of 1,314 Rcats, consisting of redirect templates and their useable redirects. Only 67 of these do not follow the "Template:R"/"Template:Redirect" format: 16 of these are the irregular prefix-missing redirects listed above, some omit the format for merely technical reasons (unlike those listed above), and the remaining ∼20 are mistakenly placed in the category and still being sorted out. In other words, over 1,000 of the redirects to Rcat templates use the prefix correctly, and the above templates are some of the only few that do not. Hopefully, this will help to put the situation into scale. — |J~Pæst|  16:38, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Falkirk by-election, 2012[edit]

The result of the discussion was delete. --BDD (talk) 14:17, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Misleading: no by-election happened. Some potential for confusion with 2013 Labour Party Falkirk candidate selection, which some news outlets are reporting as relating to a by-election. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 16:12, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I can just about remember what happened here. It was suspected that a by-election was on the way, so the redirect was set up as a just in case. Clearly there's no by-election, so this could be deleted/removed without an issue doktorb wordsdeeds 17:01, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Gangsta (song)[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget. --BDD (talk) 14:15, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Gangsta" is the name of a song included on Tha Thug Show (2010). "Gangsta" is also the name of songs on Oxymoron (album) (2013) and Death Is Certain (2004) and a 1992 single by Bell Biv DeVoe. The redirect should therefore point to the DAB page Gangsta and a name such as Gangsta (Slim Thug song) can point to Tha Thug Show. Cnilep (talk) 02:13, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see that my suggested redirect to Tha Thug Show already exists. Cnilep (talk) 02:15, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
