Delete; this is an isolated instance of a cross-namespace redirect from article to category, not part of a set. Editor may have intended to create category redirect from s to z spelling at Category:Organisations established in 1901 (which I am also nominating for deletion). – Fayenatic (talk) 19:00, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete for reasons stated by Fayenatic. Cross-namespace redirect serving no useful purpose, probably a mistake. The category presumably is nominated at CfD and can be argued separately. Si Trew (talk) 12:57, 14 January 2012 (UTC) Si Trew (talk) 14:42, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom, as an unnecessary cross-namespace redirect that blurs the distinction, which is already confusing for many, between categories and lists in the main namespace. -- Black Falcon (talk) 21:19, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as CNR.--Lenticel (talk) 00:00, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

THE BEST NBA PLAYERS 2011-12[edit]

Not sure if this qualifies under R3 or not. This was originally created as an OR article expressing the opinion of Logan Kulas (talk · contribs). It was redirected by The Mark of the Beast (talk · contribs) a minute after creation. I don't find this to be a plausible redirect, as the title (and the original article content) implies that it is about players active during the 2011–12 NBA season, and by rule those players are ineligible for membership in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. —KuyaBriBriTalk 15:58, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete I will take CSD as delete nominated by author. Si Trew (talk) 12:58, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If not, it needs renaming anyway (to "The best NBA players 2011-12", and then have an argy bargy about WP:HYPHEN, WP:DASH, WP:TITLE, WP:DATE and WP:NAME) and then we will end up with another redirect or several of them and so end up back where we are now, only have a series of redirects by someone who wants to make a point (probably me in a bad mood). Si Trew (talk) 13:05, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. The original article was clearly a case of WP:SOAP that would unquestionably have been deleted at AfD, and the redirect is implausible. Though G7 doesn't apply in this case, perhaps R3 does. -- Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 15:33, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dwayne Johnson Vs John Cena[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was Keep. Ruslik_Zero 16:48, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This page is very good faith, but I believe that this is a bit too vague because Dwayne Johnson and John Cena could have a match before and all. I also believe that this is not necessary at all. JC Talk to me My contributions 05:40, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actual Dwayne Johnston is the real name of the wrestler known as the Rock so the match is mention but under the stage name. If you click on the link for the Rock you would see that it goes to the Dwayne Johnston page. I am not sure if we need this redirect but the non-existant match argument is not accurate.--70.24.206.51 (talk) 00:01, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep for now as User:70.24.206.51 makes a good point there. (I know nothing about wrestling.) It would be better to mention the stage names/real names in the article, and perhaps something is already out there, so I will search around and see if we can link it better. If nothing else, his real name should be mentioned in the article, but someone who knows better could perhaps make a stub for it and I would be happy to help them do that if they are new to Wikipedia and need help with its wonderful editing environment. I will have a search around on DABs for The Rock etc, but I wanted to record my Keep first, as sometimes this can take a while to get through the spaghetti. Si Trew (talk) 13:11, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Comment. Vs should be vs, I think, as abbreviation of "versus", as per WP:TITLE. But then I imagine that is just {{R from alternate capitalization}} and we would need to create one with lower case V. We are not in the business here of CREATING redirects, but discussing deletion of them. (Gets can opener, tin labelled WORMS). Si Trew (talk) 13:14, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Comment. The Rock redirects to Dwayne Johnson. Therefore it seems to me, this can stay as a redirect however unlikely, but the article just needs to link it. I will take WP:BOLD and do that now, I am not sure if that is wise since I don't want to pre-empt discussion about this particular redirect (the particular match) but it seems to make sense to link the name, via the redirect, to the article about him. Si Trew (talk) 13:19, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Comment. Taking WP:BOLD, I have edited the target article in the image caption and lede, which had a pipe [[Dwayne Johnson|The Rock]] which I have put as Dwayne Johnston ("The Rock"). Left The Rock standing in the rest of the article, just for the link which WAS there but hidden under the pipe. So I think (but am not sure) Dmitrij's argument falls because it WAS mentioned in the article, only hidden under a pipe. I am not sure of what others would think about that, because of course in the plain text of it there was no mention of Dwayne Johnson, only The Rock, but it pipes to Dwayne Johnson (NOT as 70.24.206.51 wrote it, "Johnston").
As of writing, Dwayne Johnston (as 70.24.206.51 wrote it) is a redlink. Interestingly (or not), Wikipedia's search results for this have Dwayne Johnson in 8th place, with in this order:
  1. Ian Tracey
  2. Helen Betty Osborne
  3. Zixx
  4. Toronto FC#Mo Johnston Era (2007–2010)
  5. 2011 Melbourne Cup
  6. List of Grand Theft Auto IV characters#Dwayne Forge
  7. List of fantasy films of the 2010s
...and then Dwayne Johnson.
I think this might be a good candidate for an {{R from alternate spelling}}, but we are here to delete redirects, not create them. Has anyone any tool to see how many people DON'T get the subject they intended, i.e. end up at the search page instead of a common misspelling such as this? It is only worth creating if it is common to do so. I see little harm in creating it, but while it is at RfD, I don't want to muddy the waters more than I already have.
