Delete obscure synonym. The searchbox is not a question and answer system. Wikipedia is not Ask Jeeves. 65.95.14.96 (talk) 07:34, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep because it helps to document a recent pagemove and will point the original contributors to the current (and marginally better) location of the page. The redirect is not a synonym at all but, as we've said many times before, redirects do far more than merely support the search engine. Rossami (talk) 02:13, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jack shit[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was Soft Redirect to wikt:jack shit (non-admin closure) →GƒoleyFour← 20:34, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Jack shit" means "not a damn thing". I know that, and I'm sure you know that. Now imagine that you don't know that, and you're searching on Wikipedia to try to understand what this phrase refers to. It isn't covered in the Nothing article, and if you don't know what it means to begin with you won't understand where to go from there. The other obvious places to look, Jack and Shit, don't have any content on this concept either, and so won't be useful as targets for the same reason. If we don't have a good place to target this, it ought to be deleted so that the lack of coverage is clear. Gavia immer (talk) 07:26, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Soft redirect to Wiktionary wikt:jack shit. Thryduulf (talk) 10:02, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agreed that it is not a good redirect to nothing. I think Thryduulf's suggestion of a soft redirect to wiktionary would be a improvement. However, that page is brief. If someone can find multiple reliable sources discussing the phrase jack shit as a topic in and of itself, I'd support an actual article. But what I don't want to see is a collection of random facts and trivia with any sort of encyclopedic material. We can do the redirect to wiktionary for now and then anyone can take it on later if they want to find some sources. Cazort (talk) 12:33, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Whatever you do, it should be useful to someone who writes "I know jack shit about topic A." Someone who doesn't understand should quickly find out that it means "nothing". That's the only important thing, IMHO. Chrisrus (talk) 00:08, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Revert the page to the soft-redirect to Wiktionary (again). It will never be more than a dictionary definition and the soft-redirect preempts the endless recreation of these pages. Rossami (talk) 02:10, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Soft redirect per Thryduulf and Rossami. I suppose in theory some language-related encyclopedic content might exist (similar to that for, say Truthiness), but I don't know of any sources for it and don't foresee such an article being created. Cnilep (talk) 04:20, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
