Burnt tongue[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was no consensus to do anything except not delete. Deletion appears to be off the table, and so we can take it out of this process. Meanwhile, it is unclear exactly where this title should point, and that can be accomplished via regular editing and discussion. SchuminWeb (Talk) 17:14, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I know that it's an old redirect, but I believe this to be problematic enough that it shouldn't be kept. First off, the Glossitis article doesn't refer to the action of burning your tongue — glossitis is a condition that can be brought about by any of several causes, including burning your tongue; however, burning is one of many possible causes in a long list in the "Causes, incidence, and risk factors" section. Nobody's going to search for "burnt tongue" if they want glossitis; as a result, this isn't going to have many links in article histories or on other websites. As well, it's never been edited since its creation: there's no edit history. Finally, I would change its target if possible; I'm only suggesting deletion because I can't find a suitable target page. For example, tongue says nothing about burning at all. Nyttend (talk) 13:07, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak keep or retarget. This is consistently getting around 40 hits a month, occasionally up around 60 or so hits (I've gone back about 13 months) so the title is actually being used. Seeing how many people seem to be searching for advice on how to soothe/heal a burnt tongue it would not surprise me if this traffic were search-engine driven but we cannot know how significant this is (at least we can't as far as I know). What pushes this from just an observation to a weak keep recommendation is that we almost certainly don't want an article on burnt tongues, and so this redirect will be subtley discouraging the creation of such. As for the target, I wouldn't call it "promlematic", but neither would I say it's "good" (it's more an "adequate, but could do better" sort of target). The Tongue article is a possible alternative destination, but it doesn't mention burning at all so I hesitate to offer it as a recommendation. Google searches found nothing obvious, either. I've not though fully investigated what articles we have on burning nor what if anything we have on common minor maladies and misadventures - for example stubbing one's toe. Could a sentence be added at Tongue disease? Thryduulf (talk) 03:20, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
