The result of the discussion was Replace with dab page. SamuelTheGhost (talk) 14:27, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is no reason to suppose that Farrant Reed was ever referred to as Herbert Reed. There are just two inward links to this redirect, both of which are wrong, but neither is immediately reliably correctable. Better to make them redlinks. SamuelTheGhost (talk) 21:26, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No objections from me. Harrias talk 21:33, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Henry Reid fought in WWI, parodied TS Eliot ("Chard Whitlow") and was a friend of Orwell. I think notable on that count, but not sure if the redirect should be deleted or not. Worthwhile as a redirect from here? Si Trew (talk) 13:41, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
To make clear, I agree it should not go to Farrant Reed. It Might go to Henry Reid, as a misspelling, but I leave others to decide that. Certainly not to Farrant, so delete if that or redir to Henry Reid if you think a useful search term. Si Trew (talk) 13:50, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Herbert Read and Herbert Reade are both more likely. If it's not deleted, it could be made into a dab page. SamuelTheGhost (talk) 11:35, 2 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambiguate. Hey, hum! I actually do not really see a strong objection to the present redirect since even though 'Farrant Reed' is the accepted usage, 'Herbert Reed', as the first and last names, is a plausible search term. Having said that, it is a low traffic redirect and the consensus above must be respected. I suggest, therefore, a disambiguation page between the cricketer and Herbert Read/Herbert Reade. I have looked at the two incoming links and I can't find sources to support a standalone page for either so I suggest that they are both blacked. Bridgeplayer (talk) 02:52, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment I agree best to DAB. I would do so but do not want to pre-empt the discussion here, will do so once the consensus here is reached. Farrant seems an odd thing to search for if you want Herbert. Si Trew (talk) 06:29, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment Actually the reason I was thinking of Henry Reid was that I think, and I would have to really read carefully, that Orwell calls him Herbert Reid in his diaries. I have them here but would have to check up carefully and could well be mistaken and just a false memory on my part. I agree with BP that Herbert Read and Herbert Reade are more likey search terms, but I will stick by my saying if we make a DAB put Henry Reid in there, even if it is a false memory on my part I think it is a helpful DAB. Farrant is not. Si Trew (talk) 06:36, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
      • Comment (About Orwell) checked, he refers to Herbert Reed.[1] I would have to check in the Collected Essays that he called him Herbert Reid, and maybe my memory is false, but I still think then a useful DAB term. Si Trew (talk) 06:46, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
        • For if not, you might as well redirect it to Nigel Farage. It is just a bad redirect that helps nobody. Si Trew (talk) 11:40, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think the new Herbert Reed (disambiguation) should be moved there. Boleyn (talk) 14:04, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. SamuelTheGhost (talk) 14:15, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect should be deleted. BLE is a disambiguation page itself. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 11:04, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - perfectly serviceable redirect. When 'Foo' is a disambiguation page it is policy to link through 'Foo (disambiguation)'; see WP:FURTHERDAB. It is currently used for just this purpose. Bridgeplayer (talk) 14:25, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - as per Bridgeplayer, the guidelines not only permit but strongly encourage this type of redirect; further, even if that were not the case, "redirects are cheap and there would be no reason to delete this. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 23:07, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
