Andrew (Andy) Horning is almost a Libertarian perennial candidate for a number of state and local offices in Indiana. It's not clear that his name(s) should redirect to this particular election. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 19:10, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unused cross-namespace redirect. Mhiji (talk) 14:12, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete – "Off white" is not a Wikipedia term and so should not be redirected out of main namespace. McLerristarr | Mclay1 14:19, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget-To white, or possibly to a more specific shade, although I'd leave that to the judgement of editors more educated on the topic.--Fyre2387 (talkcontribs) 18:07, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • Why? There's nothing at Off white so it seems a bit odd keeping this. Mhiji (talk) 18:11, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep--The term off white is the standard terminology used in interior design and in the formulation of paint colors, as well as in everyday colloquial terminology, to refer to these colors. If people are looking for "off white" colors, the colors on this template are the colors they want to see. So this redirect should be kept and should NOT be deleted. Keraunos (talk) 21:35, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • But why would anyone looking for information about this search for "Off white (colors)"?! They might search for "Off white" or "Off white colors" but not "Off white (colors)". Mhiji (talk) 23:23, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

*Delete: Really? We have pages on Old Lace (color), Eggshell (color, Cream (colour), Pearl (color), and Ivory (color), but not Off white? Off white is a perfectly plausible term, and at least as worthy an entry as those -- but it should definitely not link to a template, still less to one that doesn't even mention it. There's no information about off white there! Let's at least leave it a redlink.  Glenfarclas  (talk) 09:58, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: This page, along with the ones below, were once mainspace articles, before they were moved to template space. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 01:00, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep the template effectively also functions like a list article. 65.93.15.73 (talk) 08:15, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • But it's unused - noone would search for "List of CJK Unified Ideographs, Extension B (20000-2A6DF)"! Mhiji (talk) 10:39, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Someone here nominating redirects for deletion keeps writing on the fact the searchbox will give a list of partial title matches, so why wouldn't these come up in that instance? Therefore, they can be used. 65.93.12.93 (talk) 06:20, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
      • Although this might be somewhat not directly related to the RfD issue itself, I was originally unsure as to whether the pages should be considered articles or templates. I was the original author of these "List of CJK Unified Ideographs, Extension XYZ" pages, and originally based on the same format as the "List of CJK Unified Ideographs (XYZ)" pages created 7 or so years earlier by someone else, I had earlier intended the pages to be in article namespace. Then early this year if I recall, an editor brought to the attention as to what namespace is appropriate for the pages, and moved the pages to template namespace. (it was a talk from a long while back, I can't recall the exact details) Can these pages be considered templates? Templates are pages that are intended to be transcluded onto another page (for example, Template:Chinese, Template:Infobox, Template:stub), and these pages don't seem to fit the purpose - all in all, they are simply listing tables. I personally would think that the redirects and pages should switch places themselves, with the pages being in article namespace, unless someone can argue otherwise. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 13:25, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
        • I agree. Templates are pages which are intended to be transcluded per Help:Template. These aren't, so shouldn't be in template space, so I'd support a move to article space. Although then another issue is whether they should exist at all - are they notable? Maybe move them all to user space? Mhiji (talk) 13:50, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
      • Oh, I just happened to realise that it is likely for the redirect to be a valid search term. The new Wikipedia search box has an autofill feature - even though someone might not necessarily remember the exact hexadecimal codepoints, by typing in "List of CJK..." in the searchbox, the autofill brings up a series of possible pages. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 13:29, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - According to http://stats.grok.se it's getting around 50 views a month, sometimes 100. Not a lot of people, but enough in my opinion to justify keeping it, especially as the Reference Desk is often visited by new users unfamiliar with Wikipedia who may not know to type "Wikipedia:" before the link . 82.44.55.25 (talk) 18:47, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: cross namespace redirects may be frowned upon (we don't want people reading an article to get lost in the bowels of Wikipedia), but I really don't see how this is going to hurt anyone. If someone searches for "Humanities Reference Desk", they're probably looking for the Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities. I second that the reference desk is one area of Wikipedia space that's not just geared for regular editors (as opposed to the village pump, where there's generally no reason for a casual reader to go there). Unused cross-namespace redirect. Mhiji (talk) 13:59, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

keep: I would quibble with the unused on this and other ' MOS:...' redirects. One important use of them is to save typing when using the search box to get to the page, but that won't show up in 'What links here'. Although there is no 'MOS:' namespace I think most editors know it refers to the Manual of Style and subpages, will not be surprised by where this leads and will appreciate the typing it saves. Some such as MOS:NUM apply to many more articles so have been referred to often. This one hasn't but otherwise is just as valid a redirect.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 14:26, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I realise some "MOS:" redirects are useful, but I don't see how this one is. MOS:CHINESE exists as well so that will show up in the search box anyway. The article it redirects to is about the Chinese language, not China. Mhiji (talk) 15:18, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Keep: My thoughts exactly, on this and all the similar RfDs. The nominator may have missed the point that such redirects as MOS:BOLD etc. are not primarily there for people to add to Wiki pages, so much as for them to type into the search box so as to get somewhere faster. Just because MOS:CHINA does not appear on many users' user pages and, say, CAT:SD does (as a way of letting them navigate to where they want to go faster), that does not increase or diminish its utility to other editors typing it into the search box. It Is Me Here t / c 15:23, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Per my above comment, I realise some "MOS:" redirects are useful, such as MOS:NUM and MOS:BOLD, but I don't see how this one is. MOS:CHINESE exists as well so that will show up in the search box anyway. The article it redirects to is about the Chinese language, not China, so how is this redirect useful to anyone? Mhiji (talk) 16:25, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's about the use of Chinese in articles, and so China related articles. MOS:CHINESE and MOS:CHINA are the same much as WP:RS, WP:IRS, WP:RELY and WP:RELIABLE. Some of those too are less obvious and less used but serve a purpose. I would note also that if you type MOS:CHINA quickly enough or without looking at the search box as you type you never see MOS:CHINESE.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 17:21, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Really? You must type much faster than me then! Mhiji (talk) 17:24, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not that fast, but slow/laggy JavaScript often means my search box doesn't start autocompleting for several seconds, so if I load a page and immediately start typing I might only see what I finally type. Or I might need to look at the keyboard while doing so.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 17:33, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    • How's "MOS:MOS" helpful though? Anyone looking for the MOS article will surely search for MOS OR MOS:? Mhiji (talk) 10:43, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
      • How isn't it useful? MOS is a pseudonamespace marker, therefore to search for the MOS page you need to attach MOS to the pseudonamespace marker, hence becoming MOS:MOS. "MOS:" is a flag indicating an MOS page, "...MOS" is the page in the MOS pages to link to, therefore, for the main page, you would need to do MOS:MOS, otherwise you haven't specified anything. MOS: should also go to the same place, but people would not expect a bare namespace marker to signify anything, since it isn't logical. "MOS" is not a pseudonamespace marker, or attached to a pseudonamespace marker, and can't be used as a shortcut anyways. 65.93.12.93 (talk) 06:17, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The only non-trivial mention appears to be in an old version of a Wikipedia article (Volkswagen Type 2) which has since been changed to the correct Dodge A100. The "keep" !votes in that AFD don't seem to have much basis in anything but a poor nomination and "if someone created the article, it must exist."
