Thornton, Washington[edit]

The result of the discussion was Deleted. Re-targeting is not the solution as the new target is simply a list of names without any content. A redlink is a better solution as it encourages article creation and also lets searchers know we don't have content right away vs. sending them somewhere where they expect to find content, but then don't. -- JLaTondre (talk) 12:40, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There's a small community in the U.S. state of Washington known as "Thornton", and this entry follows the naming convention for U.S. communities, so it's a likely search topic. However, the target is totally unrelated to the community: it's a relative of George Washington who had the first name of "Thornton". I can't imagine that someone would type a comma in the middle of this name (how often do you type "Barack, Obama" or "David, Cameron"), so it's not a likely search target for this individual, and it's quite confusing for those of us who want the community. Please note that this name is linked by four pages, all of which refer to the community. Nyttend (talk) 23:31, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Redirecting communities to counties really isn't a good idea: a county article shouldn't contain much more than a list of communities in the county, so it doesn't help to redirect readers there. Nyttend (talk) 01:25, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Its a far better idea than deleting the link IMHO because it provides some information for searchers. There is nothing gained in concealing what information we have. An even better idea would be to create a stub but the retarget will hold things for now. Bridgeplayer (talk) 01:29, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. The problem with retargetting the article as User:Bridgeplayer recommends is that it will simply create a circular link, since there's nothing in the article about the town except the name. This will be more useful as a red link that will encourage someone reading the county article to create the town article. Grondemar 00:04, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - re-targeting doesn't necessarily mean a circular link; that can be fixed by editorial action. Hey, I've just corrected it (no need to thank me). A redirect doesn't prevent someone writing a page if there is something to say but it does tell people what county this community is situated in which a red link does not. The way forward for objectors is just to write a page; easy really. Bridgeplayer (talk) 22:58, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. — ξxplicit 00:15, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Delete: Target article contains no information about Jay Santos. Google search reveals few reasons as to why the 2 are related (top being the target article). Disclosure: There is a chef in Hell's_Kitchen_(U.S._season_7) of the same name and so I investigated as to why the link was blue. After raising the question on the target's talk page and recieving no answer in 10 days Hasteur (talk) 20:30, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
