May 31[edit]

This is a list of redirects that have been proposed for deletion or other action on May 31, 2009

Genetic Engeneering[edit]

The result of the discussion was keep. The identity of the creator is irrelevant to the suitability of the redirect, and redirects from common misspellings and alternative capitalizations are actively encouraged.--Aervanath (talk) 15:37, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Normally this would be a harmless cheap redirect, but given that it's Jarlaxle leftovers I think it should go. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Many ottersOne batOne hammer) 23:47, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I know who Jarlaxle is, but why does that motivate deleting this redirect? --Apoc2400 (talk) 23:54, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • One part WP:DENY (which I'm not really a big fan of, except in some extreme cases and one part removing the incoherent gibberish. Note also that Engineering is spelled wrong in the redir. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Many ottersOne batOne hammer)
  • Keep. This is an obvious, likely typo. Note also that short titles like this don't qualify for copyright; if the motivation here is nothing more than "yeah, but fuck him", it can be deleted and recreated without any GFDL implications. Gavia immer (talk) 15:10, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep just for the obvious and usual reasons. The person proposing deletion does not tell us who or what "Jarlaxle" is, but just acts as if we know that. But we don't. Michael Hardy (talk) 15:39, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Remove this redirect because it is too esoteric. If all such misspellings were accounted for, 99% of wikipedia articles would be redirects. It should be removed. die2u2 (talk) 19:00, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Long term abuse/JarlaxleArtemis, just for the record. Gavia immer (talk) 16:20, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mohamed Altoumaimi[edit]

The result of the discussion was speedy deleted by User:David Eppstein, author request. JamieS93 14:04, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is nothing in Bernoulli number about Mohamed Altoumaimi, nor should there be (per the talk page). Apoc2400 (talk) 22:33, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep until the media hype dies down. For the time being, Mohamed Altoumaimi is a current news topic. That raises the possibility that someone might enter his name in the search box. It seems not altogether inappropriate to have some civilized way of informing such people that he's not the topic of an article in his own right. Michael Hardy (talk) 23:02, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment The last paragraph of Bernoulli number#Efficient computation of Bernoulli numbers is currently about him. He is not named but referred to as "a sixteen year-old Iraqi immigrant living in Sweden". Maybe the paragraph will be removed following the talk page discussion but until then I think the redirect makes sense. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:08, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support deletion of redirect. Note: it was myself that created the redirect in the first place. This now looks like pure media hype. I find this press release from Uppsala University, which someone supplied on the Talk page -> No new mathematical solution by Swedish Teen - to be pretty well the final word in this matter. --Mais oui! • G7 per above, author requested deletion. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Many ottersOne batOne hammer) 04:41, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Category:"Brazilian Jazz" musicians[edit]

The result of the discussion was delete. JamieS93 14:57, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The redirect is confusing, since putting quotation marks around "Brazilian Jazz" is not enough to capture the distinction between Category:Brazilian jazz musicians and Category:Brazilian jazz (genre) musicians. The title is not a likely search term, and the redirect itself has no significant incoming links or page history. Delete. –BLACK FALCON (TALK) 05:46, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
