Marilyn Manson's 7th Studio AlbumMarilyn Manson (band)[edit]

The result of the discussion was Re-targeted by Zazaban. -- JLaTondre (talk) 18:53, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think that this one should be redirected to Marilyn Manson's seventh studio album. David Pro (talk) 20:17, 17 January 2009 (UTC) David Pro (talk) 20:17, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think you should just go ahead and do it, I think this would go under WP:SNOW. Zazaban (talk) 02:17, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jerk of the seaOrca[edit]

The result of the discussion was speedy delete. Vandalism.--Aervanath talks like a mover, but not a shaker 15:28, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The fun part of Wikipedia lies in seeing what you can slip under the radar. After watching on TV how orcas sadistically kill their prey, Jerk of the sea was created, and 8 months later sits happily waiting for people to find it.

Sadly, I imagine someone reading MeFi will destroy my work. posted by explosion at 6:33 AM on July 8, 2008 ... quote from search on redirect's name. cygnis insignis 18:11, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete as vandalism per above. B.Wind (talk) 03:19, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I love this one even more than I did any of the long unnoticed scatological redirects with which we were presented last week (which says a great deal; my exceedingly juvenile mind was grandly captured by that series), but, yeah, it's a delete. Joe 05:14, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Airports in ontarioTemplate:Airports in Ontario[edit]

The result of the discussion was keep. delldot ∇. 21:30, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Recommend deletion, the redirect is not used in any article, nor should it be. It was a capitalization error in the initial template. It is an unnecessary search term; searching on the lower case term will find the target template without the redirect.Canglesea (talk) 17:54, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep as a plausible typo (capitalization). The issue raised by nom is not within the purview of Rfd - it should first be discussed on the target template's discussion page; if nom wishes to delete the target template, he/she should raise the issue at WP:TfD (if the target is deleted, the redirect will be speedily deleted per CSD G8). B.Wind (talk) 22:07, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • The nominator didn't say anything about deleting the target... -- JLaTondre (talk) 14:43, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • That is correct. I'm not suggesting deletion of the target, only the redirect. - Canglesea (talk) 03:13, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
        • Yep, I misread the nom - I maintain my !vote, but struck the comment afterward. B.Wind (talk) 16:31, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as a likely typo. PaulJones (talk) 13:44, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pharmaceutical Society v Boots 1995Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain v Boots Cash Chemists (Southern) Ltd[edit]

The result of the discussion was delete. delldot ∇. 02:05, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Page was originally mistitled and poorly written duplicate of existing article. PROD deleted; I've created a redirect, but this is an orphan with an implausible search title. THF (talk) 11:13, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete as the year is incorrect (it's 1953, according to the target article). Had it had the correct year, or if the year were omitted, I would have urged keeping it as case names are often shorted when cited in law articles, law briefs, and rulings. B.Wind (talk) 22:56, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. THE AMERICAN METROSEXUAL 16:22, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Very strong keep How is that implausible? I can imagine typing too fast and accidently getting that. I must have done it a million times for other articles.--Pattont/c 23:36, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep plausible misspelling. JuJube (talk) 09:26, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, since redirects are cheap, and this one doesn't do much harm (at least until someone writes about something called "Yahho"). --Eivind (t) 13:51, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

International KidneyPotato[edit]

The result of the discussion was Retarget to Jersey Royal potato. (non-admin closure) Mastrchf (t/c) 02:52, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Implausible search term Tavix (talk) 03:22, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Redirect to Jersey Royal potato. Not an implausible search term.. This is a significant variety of potato often incorrectly called Jersey Royal. See here, for example. TerriersFan (talk) 20:35, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per TerriersFan. "International Kidney" appears - italicized - in the second sentence of Jersey Royal potato. B.Wind (talk) 23:47, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per TerriersFan. --Eivind (t) 13:52, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget It's the name used by websites selling seeds of that potato variety[1][2], so it be the name under which people search for it

Nonsence redirect Tavix (talk) 03:17, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. This isn't quite nonsense; it's a term that was occasionally used for Palin during her Vice Presidential campaign. However, it's not well-known enough to justify this redirect. Gavia immer (talk) 17:59, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - incorrect nomination; this is not nonsense. This was used on Letterman, for example - see here. TerriersFan (talk) 20:13, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - one-time use by Alec Baldwin with virtually no coverage outside of the blogosphere has even less in the notability department (or anything else) than Rush Limbaugh's Gorbasm (a term that he used on his radio program almost daily for about a decade and actually appears in a few reliable sources). There seems to be no use of "Bible Spice" unrelated to Alec Baldwin anywhere. B.Wind (talk) 00:03, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - Throw away joke line showing no life beyond the one show where it appeared. Wikipedia is not the place to memorialize every passing comment ever made about every public figure. --Allen3 talk 20:51, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete meh, only used at blogs and user comments. Maybe one day it will become a notable nickname, but not today --Enric Naval (talk) 10:10, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

クラッシュ・バンディクー5 え~っ クラッシュとコルテックスの野望Crash Twinsanity[edit]

The result of the discussion was no consensus to delete. delldot ∇. 02:07, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Although this seems logical from another language, the 5 and the ~ has me suspicious that this is nonsense. Tavix (talk) 03:13, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. Even though I don't understand whatever language that is in, it seems like it is correct. A Google search gives you results all relating to the game which it's redirected to. --Eivind (t) 13:56, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment it's in Japanese. "クラッシュ・バンディクー5" == "Crash Bandicoot 5" 76.66.198.171 (talk) 06:03, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This year2009[edit]

The result of the discussion was delete. delldot ∇. 02:02, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ever changing redirect. If someone doesn't know the current year, they have no business searching for it in the first place. Tavix (talk) 03:10, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. There's no stable target for this, and no great use in having a changing target. Gavia immer (talk) 17:59, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete and salt against well-meaning recreation. Also, see my notes below.B.Wind (talk) 22:17, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wow. Delete per nom. THE AMERICAN METROSEXUAL 16:23, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. --Eivind (t) 13:56, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I changed the [[2009]] to [[{{CURRENTYEAR}}]]. If the page is not deleted, then at least the target will automatically change every year. I don't care whether or not the page is deleted. —AlanBarrett (talk) 14:36, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Notes. 1) Redirect was created in 2006 by an editor who was credited with two edits on Wikipedia (this and his user page); 2) Remaining article-, name- , and talk-space links to this redirect have been replaced with the year in which the edit adding them occurred (2006, 2008, and in one case, 2009); 3) "this year" is discouraged by WP:MOS as the year of writing could be very different from the year of reading. Unneeded South Park reference. Tavix (talk) 03:08, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to Terrance and Phillip, an article about two Canadian comedians who have this characteristic in South Park - this article not only mentions that Canadians in the South Park universe, but so do Danes and Kyle Broflovski's brother Ike (who was born a Canadian). Unneeded redirect from a disambiguation. Tavix (talk) 03:04, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - used in several links to dab page, as per WP:INTDABLINK. And makes it less likely that someone will create a duplicate dab page at that title. And does no harm anyway. PamD (talk) 08:28, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Redirects from "Foo (disambiguation)" to the disambiguation page for "Foo" are generally useful, not harmful. Gavia immer (talk) 17:59, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - incoming links and potential benefits as described above. TerriersFan (talk) 20:16, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nonsense redirect. Tavix (talk) 03:02, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Name of the fictional world the game takes place in. See now Norrath redirects to Everquest. Keep.
  • Delete - not mentioned in the target article, nor does it appear anywhere else in Wikipedia article space. B.Wind (talk) 23:05, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Scandinavian (disambiguation)Scandinavia[edit]

The result of the discussion was keep. delldot ∇. 01:32, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unneeded disambiguation redirect. Tavix (talk) 02:59, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

*Keep - potentially used in links to dab page, as per WP:INTDABLINK. And makes it less likely that someone will create a duplicate dab page at that title. And does no harm anyway. PamD (talk) 08:30, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Corrected so that it now points to Scandinavian, a dab page - I hadn't noticed the incorrect destination of the redirect when I made the above comment. As corrected, my comments still apply - potentially useful, and harmless. PamD (talk) 08:43, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Original JesusJesus[edit]

The result of the discussion was retarget to The Jesus Mysteries. delldot ∇. 01:43, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Although Jesus is original, I don't see the point of this. Tavix (talk) 02:50, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Redirect to The Jesus Mysteries where the term is used. Significant term used in several books. TerriersFan (talk) 20:59, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per TerriersFan, at least for the time being. Should there be a significant list of books referring to this term as its primary topic of discussion, a new standalone article (with these books) will be needed here. B.Wind (talk) 22:45, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

VniversityV[edit]

The result of the discussion was Re-targeted to University. -- JLaTondre (talk) 20:31, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Delete as a nonsense redirect. Tavix (talk) 02:48, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to University as an alternate spelling in stone carving (for those who are unaware: the letter U evolved from the letter V about the 18th Century). B.Wind (talk) 22:49, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget as suggested by B.Wind. While unlikely to be used, it will do no harm. PaulJones (talk) 11:08, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Debut album by Alanis MorissetteAlanis (album)[edit]

The result of the discussion was delete second through seventh, no consensus on first. delldot ∇. 02:10, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Delete all as unlikely search terms. If one does not know the name of Alanis Morissette's albums, he/she would probably start at Alanis Morissette or Alanis Morissette discography. Wolfer68 (talk) 01:07, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep Debut album... as plausible search term, delete the rest. It seems likely that someone would want to find her first album and not know the title of it, but beyond that I agree people would start at the discography and not bother with the search. twirligigLeave one! ⋄ Check me out! 22:02, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Brown starfishAnus[edit]

The result of the discussion was delete--Aervanath (talk) 08:22, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Some kid trying to make a joke perhaps? After 2.5 years, its time for this to go. Tavix (talk) 00:31, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - not 'Some kid trying to make a joke' rather a redirect created by a current admin. Not a term used in what some might call polite society but there is wide enough usage that I see no point in deleting it. TerriersFan (talk) 21:20, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Common starfish - Enshrining a neologism dicdef in the form of a redirect is not an acceptable practice. A Google search shows that the term is more commonly used for Asterias forbesi, the common starfish. --Allen3 talk 20:43, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. In a Google search, I'm not seeing "Brown starfish" as a name for the common starfish, just to describe it (e.g. "a yellow brown starfish..."). I agree with the others that we don't need to make redirects out of every neologism. delldot ∇. 02:16, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as a web search did not produce any frequent usage except when describing the colour of a starfish. PaulJones (talk) 11:10, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - many species of sea stars are brown-colored or have brown in their color variations, and I'm not sure that a retargeting to Sea star would be appropriate. B.Wind (talk) 20:27, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Barry SoetoroBarack Obama[edit]

The result of the discussion was keep (non admin close) B.Wind (talk) 23:01, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Implausible redirect. A combination of a lesser used nickname and a surname for a couple of his relatives. Tavix (talk) 00:26, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep -used as a pejorative term by some opposed to the President-elect. Having said that, the term was cited in a Washington Supreme Court case, see here, and used here, for example. I don't see what we gain by deleting it. TerriersFan (talk) 21:45, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. The name isn't even pejorative, it's just a name that Barack Obama had during childhood, for some purposes (a variation on first name as a nickname, and the last name of his step-father). It's true that some oddball conspiracy types perceive something nefarious in the change in name over Obama's lifetime, but that's neither here nor there. The childhood name 'Barry Soetoro' has been published in a reasonable variety of sources and is notable enough for a redirect (but not for an independent article). The meaning is explained in the Barack Obama article, where it belongs. LotLE×talk 23:23, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. For reasons mentioned by proceeding Wikipedian. Plhofmei (talk) 18:02, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Heisei 202008[edit]

The result of the discussion was no consensus to delete. delldot ∇. 01:57, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand why someone would want to get to 2008 through Heisei 20. Extremely implausible redirect. Tavix (talk) 00:24, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. This is the indicated year as represented in the traditional Japanese calendar (see Heisei). As such, it benefits the encyclopedia for it to link to the right place, even if the term is not commonly used in English. Gavia immer (talk) 17:59, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - per Gavia immer's reasoning. TerriersFan (talk) 21:34, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete or retarget to Heisei (possibly with a tag pointing to the mapping.) Redirects are cheap, but this a potentially infinite set. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 21:48, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • Other redirects include 1, and 1219. As I can't get AWB to edit a family of redirects, I'm not going to nominate those. Yet. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 21:57, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's not actually an infinite set; the Heisei era will end when the current emperor of Japan dies. Nor are Japanese calendrical redirects in general a potentially infinite set; the Japanese official calendar year corresponds to the Gregorian one only since 1873 (Meiji 6), so redirects like this are useful only after that point. In any case, while the Japanese calendar is rarely used in English, I think it's useful to have such redirects; I'm far more concerned with the missing year redirects than with the existence of the ones that have been created.
