War HeroHero[edit]

The result of the debate was Kept. There is no consensus for deletion. Disambiguation is an option, but there doesn't seem to be agreement on that either so the status quo remains. Disambiguation discussions can be continued on the redirect's talk page if desired. -- JLaTondre (talk) 14:41, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article doesn't say anything about war heros, or what the criteria is to be one. Keep this link red, n someone might write article about i.e. history, public perception etc Ryan4314 (talk) 15:10, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd rather leave it where it is than send it to a list with "yoda", Harry Potter and "Charlie from Lost" on! Ryan4314 (talk) 19:58, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oh and maybe War hero (with a small "h") should be included in this? Deamon138 (talk) 03:52, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Or maybe Retarget to Military decoration? Which of those two is best? (Tbh I'm surprised that an article can't be written on War hero). Deamon138 (talk) 03:54, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Some war heroes are civilians; so veteran wouldn't quite fit as a redirect target (also, unfortunately, not all veterans are war heroes... but that's a separate discussion); similarly, not all war heroes receive military decorations. Right now, we do not have an article with "War Hero" in its title except for War Heroes (Japanese film) and List of fictional war heroes (which is in AfD at present). If there were an article that defines the different types of heroes and illustrates with a few choice examples, then that would be an excellent potential target for the redirect. 147.70.242.40 (talk) 21:25, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • ... and yes, Deamon, I would think that if the nominated redirect is deleted, so should its noncapitalised variant. I trust that the closing admin would do that if need be. 147.70.242.40 (talk) 21:25, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep a war hero is a hero from a war, is it not? So this is the appropriate destination. 70.51.9.124 (talk) 05:36, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment A dab could be built, targetting hero, War Heroes, Military decoration, and List of fictional war heroes. 70.51.9.124 (talk) 05:39, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dabify per 70.51. I think that would be better since there are a lot of potential redirects.--Lenticel (talk) 14:21, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • But to do this, there would have to be a sourced, NPOV, definition of the phrase "war hero" somewhere. Until then, even the suggested dab page (which is shaky at best) would be a house of cards as far as Wikipedia policy is concerned. Note that Hero (disambiguation) already exists. 147.70.242.40 (talk) 19:52, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • Redirects are not affected by NPOV, they're just removed if they are harmful and useless (which this isn't). The Hero disambig also does not cover War Heroes. dab to hero is weak, dab/redirect to War Heroes is ok, Military decorations is in the middle since it is defined as a decoration for heroism of a military personnel in a battle (most probably a war).--Lenticel (talk) 00:37, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
        • I agree that it should be kept, but I am unsure if military decoration should be included. Isn't it possible to be a war hero but be undecorated? Swimandrow (talk) 14:59, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • (After striking above) Delete. Clearly we do not have consensus as to what would be on the dab page if it were to be dabified (it's all POV... and we really don't want to open that can of worms now, do we?). Deletion is the best option until someone wishes to write a sourced, NPOV, article covering types of heroes (and, more importantly, states what the term "war hero" actually means). For now, it might be best to leave the term undefined, however. 147.70.242.40 (talk) 20:40, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as capitalisation alternative to war hero (which also redirects to hero and is in much heavier use)--Rumping (talk) 00:08, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • But that is a circular argument, for hero and Hero are the same article. This returns the argument to the question as to whether war hero (with or without capitalisation) should remain as a redirect. 147.70.242.40 (talk) 19:41, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep A war hero is a type of hero, and since there isn't anything more specific to direct it to, this is the best option. KJS77 Join the Revolution 03:24, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
